03-05-12, I was calling Charter Communications  A woman with a foreign accent (sounded Indian) answered and told me that I was one of the lucky winners of $100 worth of gift cards and all I'd be charged is a  $2.95 processing fee.  Thinking that it WAS Charter, I gave them the information requested.  When I finally got through to Charter, they knew NOTHING about this promotion. Guess I'd better call BBB and my bank.  The number listed on my phone was 888-436-2427.  Charter's number is 888-438-2427.

The number they gave me to call to cancel was 877-817-0164.  When I called that number, I got the usual Customer Service message about being monitored/recorded for quality assurance and that my wait time was estimated to be 30 seconds.  After the 30 seconds, it rang a few times and then gave me a busy signal.  It did this twice.  Then I got a guy named Trey who said the name of the company is "Your Benefits" but he didn't know their physical address (other than that they are in Tampa, FL) and he started turning it around and asking ME questions when I asked for their mailing address.  I did end up giving him my phone number so that he could take me OUT of their system.  I'm supposed to call them back on Wednesday to confirm that.

So I looked up that number and this is what I found:

I spam this number constantly from fake email accounts that have calling capability. It feels good, try it. I wonder if enough people were doing it, if this kind of harassment would be worth the trouble.

These guys are fake I got a text saying to call the # and I did to check it out! I never gave out my info I always mess with them and swear! These guys are funny! When I have a bad day I take all the anger out on them. Their accents are the bast and I know slot of their names so I usually say the same thing over and over again to that one person. I know it sounds childish but if you want revenge say what you want. They're being illegal therefore they lie about them calling the police. So If your looking for revenge or just a good laugh these a***oles are your people!!!

I'm glad I saw this site!  Even when Walmart offers you a gift card or something, you have to do some kind of survery & then you get all kinds of spam emails!

I received the same text today from 855-286-8763 reading: "Congratulations! As a thank you, call 855-286-8763 to receive your $100 Wal-Mart rebate! 2 end reply  STOP " I called the number and a man with an Arabic accent answered dryly, I told him I was calling regarding a text for a rebate. The man asked for my confirmation number, I told him I had none then he proceeded to tell me that I would receive my $100 worth of vouchers to my mailing address within 3-5 business days. I asked what mailing address he had he said he was not finished with his conversation with me and asked for my mailing address. At this point my spidey senses started tingling and I asked where did he even get my number from. He said, "Alright, well bye", and hung up the phone which led me here because I didn't trust it.

I like to make them hang up on me so I called them via another number, They wanted my name and number.  Told them before I gave that info, I needed to know the company I am dealing with.  The man with an Indian accent said it was Smart Shopper Savings.  When I asked more questions about how I had gotten the $100 WalMart rebate and what was the rebate on, he hung up. That was my objective, waste their time on me and finally hang up.  If you make a game of it, you can have fun. Did not get any further with next few but each time it was a different person...

I got the same text message today. Believe it is a scam. Replied with "STOP".  Hope it does!

I recieved a text from 561-809-1898 and was instructed to call 855-286-8763 to claim by $100 voucher.  i didn't call this number i knew this is really a fraud..please do not call them and give your details, one of my company member lost lot of money by this nigerian girls doing fraud by taking money from your checking account.

please please stop giving your address and most important one is on "SSN" ...
never give your personal details, as them to send the cheque to your company addres rather your home address (dont give your home address..they are smart enough to get your data) .incase if you call accidently .

I also got a text to call this number to get a $100 gift card from WalMart. With a thick Indian accent, he started off with asking me for my full name then told me that I needed to pay $2.90 for processing. So I said ok, I will play your silly little game. He said that I could pay for the fee with a Master Card when I told him I do not have one. He said I could use any card, and we could start off with the exp date. I said nevermind you sound like a scam anyway, and hung up.

Got the same message a few minutes ago. The number it comes from is in Florida for some property management.

Received the same text message and called the number.  Funny accented man answered.  All I needed to know was if the call gets screened.  It isn't.  Bad idea.

These messages are a result of apps downloaded to your 'smart' phones. Be sure and check the permissions before downloading an app..they have access to your phone, contacts, personal info, etc!

They kept leaving voicemail and text saying they were Verizon saying something about 100 bucks I called to check it out I listen to the lady looking for the catch it didn't take long for her to ask for debit card number and I hung up Verizon can bill you 2.95 I knew something was wrong .I called Verizon and they said call FBI and put on a no call list right know I'm mad because I returned the call most of the time I ignore those calls they used my provider to try to trick me I didn't give any informatoin but I did Text  stop just me calling back worries me

I got one of those today, too!  The number the text came from was 561-306-1125 and to claim it I was supposed to call 855-286-8763.  I believe this is a scam since I didn't apply for a $100 rebate from Wal-mart.

The FBI has a special division called the ic3 Division that focuses on cyberscams.  They do more than homeland security. The ic3 division handles website and many other various forms of scams. You can file a report on the FBI website under cyberscams.  Be sure to have detailed info.

Same thing but I got a recording. So I will in turn send this scam to the Better Business Burrow of Investigation which will then contact the authorities just go to the bbbi website and you can report FBI usually works on Homeland Security! Not scams...
