MLG,   Thank you for your post.   Alfalfa also.    These types of post provide a very credible service to those who come here with doubts and questions about what they are dealing with.     Kudos to both of you for your efforts.

dumb founded,   don't believe anyone at this point,  until you have had time to check it out to your own satisfaction.   Providence legal has been appearing all over this board and appears to be a shady outfit.
Don't trust them.  Make them prove any and all,  in writing.   make them validate all that is claimed and do not provide them with any information.  I doubt very seriously you will be summons or arrested,  since no body else on this board (and there are hundreds)  threatened by them have yet to be hauled off  in the paddy wagon.
In fact many have been waiting for their summons from them for months now,  but nobody ever shows up.
Good luck. And make them validate any claim,  in writing.

Medic,   not to worry about the 855 number.   There was a lot of confusion at first in understanding the description of the service.   Here is how it works:

The owner of the 855 number picks up all charges.    It is pretty much Wide Area Service in that the owner gets,  depending on the program he is on,  a certain number of free outbound calls per month.  Any calls he makes over that,  he pays a toll.  However,  the recipient of those calls do not ever get charged.   If they call the 855 number back,  then the toll is billed to  the owner of the 855 number.

Just exactly who the receiver of the call,  thus paying,   kinda got misunderstood in the wording when the 855 number first began service.   Bottom Line.....855 owner pays for any and all costs.

Who's Calling? That Debt Collector Could Be a Fake

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do no
t pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I'm not sure who to believe anymore.  They are saying there will be a case filed w/the courts, claiming I attempted to defraud a financial institution.  How do you tell the frauds from the legit?  I lost my wallet w/all my banking info so had to close the acct.  I believe all were notified but what if I missed someone.  The mass corruption makes doing the right thing near impossible.

"PLEASE READ"  I have received many calls from this number and the keep leaving the same message regarding a lawsuit that is pending against me, even though I owe no debts, because everything we own is paid for.  When I try calling back this number, either no one answers or you get voicemail.  Here is the kicker, when looked up this number, the "855" prefix is not a valid prefix, it is a toll free number that when these people call you, YOU are charged for the call....If you have a way to block this number, then you should do so or you will be getting charges on your phone bill each and every time they call.  SCAM, SCAM and more SCAM....

I got a call from the same number, they left a voicemail, trying to reach me, they had my mom's name wrong (that's who they thought they was calling to locate me) left a case number. So I called right back, said American, then the same lady came on and said I had a debt from a Check N' Go from 2009 and I was getting charged with fraud and I can settle out of court today by paying the payment. I stated I was in bankruptcy and the debt is accounted for, she said this is not a debt this is fraud, we will serve you papers. Thank you. LOL if it wasn't a debt then why did she want me to pay over phone?? Total scammers.

Total scammers!!!  A lady called me pretending to be from the government (stated that her name was Gina Evans) telling me that I was being formally issued a court request for a breach of contract.  Instructed me to call the plaintiff at 855-370-9512 for further information regarding my case and she left a case number.  When I called the number it said American, I spoke with a guy at extension 333 who claimed that his name was Rob Daniels.  This guy was extremely rude and obnoxious; he tried to bully me into paying an alleged debt that is 100% not mine!!!  He claims that his office is in Chandler AZ.
