I'm a bit late to the game, but here ya go:
If you didn't actually owe the debt, start with step 1. If you did, skip 1 & go to 2.
1) File a police report. You are going to need it to:
2) Contact your bank and let them know what happened.
3) Ask your bank to cancel the debit card you have now, and issue you a new one.
4) Place a flag on all 3 of the major credit reports(Experian,Equifax, and TransUnion). This will lessen the chances of your identity being stolen (because the scammers now have more info on you), and will require new applications for credit in your name to be verified that it is you applying.

Yes, go down to your branch and tell them what is happening, change your accounts and dispute any charges they made to your account as well. If this is a legitimate company, and even if it isn't, you should keep any messages from them voice, mail or email for violations. By TCPA law, you could probably sue them for the phone violations. But , it appears they have violated the FDCPA laws also. Do read your rights and do read up on what they are not supposed to do and what they are supposed to do.  There's a *lot* of extortion scamming going on.

Also check your credit reports, your entitled to one free once a year:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0155-free-credit-reports

The burden of proof is on them, and its the law that they have to provide you proof of debt in writing, via the US mail. Phone, email nor fax is NOT legal proof!  Per the law, you have so many day's to dispute it once its been mailed i and you need to read up on the laws in regards also. Mailing them cease & desist (providing they are legitimate and have a mail address) via certified mail (never correspond with anyone without verification receipts so they can't say we didn't get it). Also you can not be arrested for owing a debt, it is a civil matter and servers do not call you first!

You also want to look up your states statue of limitations! You can google that, and your states attorney general as well to file a complaint.  If you think this extortion fraud/scam :

Report Extortion Scam: 1-877-792-2873

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."
****************************************
A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

  A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

  A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

  A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

  A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

  Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

  A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

  A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

  A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

  A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

  If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

  A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

  Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

  No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

  This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

ShillKill's 8/9/13 post here gives much information about this company.
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-256-2117

I am not as informative as some of the long-time regulars on here, when it comes to your particular question.  First suggestion would be to call and have your debit card replaced, and change your bank account.  (Hopefully one of the others will see your post and provide additional suggestions.)

Did you receive a DEBT VALIDATION LETTER from these people?  -- They do not seem agreeable to send those to people they are threatening with lawsuits. THAT is against the FDCPA.  In fact, threatening with a lawsuit they have no intention of filing is a violation of the FDCPA.

TX only allows very specific garnishment of wages, such as child support.
They can't just garnish bank accounts and tax refunds... there must be a SIGNED COURT ORDER in place in order to do that.  BEFORE that is achieved, you have to be served/mailed documents saying you are being taken to court.  BEFORE that, they need to send you a DEBT VALIDATION LETTER IN THE US MAIL, per the FDCPA.

I too have also recieved this call, same as everyone else threats of check fraud and them threating me that they are filing with the county on my voicemail...yet when i call they apt to set up payment arrangements and "drop everything"

I then called Cashnetusa and they said the account is being handled by DMP (Debt management Partners) and not to pay Autobauhn.  DMP sounds very workable ...

Its confusing how Autobahn then got my info...

I must admit I was alittle shaken by the voicemail, they really go out of there way with the scare tactics....

What is the best apporach to take on with these calls?

I received a call from them too. It is illegal for them to keep harassing your phone too. They kept calling until I took my phone outside and yelled at them from the top of my lungs! The calls stopped.
It's illegal for them to call and say the things that they say, like they are investigators, they will be sending paperwork to the courts, yada,yada,yada. He ended up apologizing after I let him know what he was doing was illegal

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I talked with both the Attorney General's office for North Carolina and my lawyer about these guys.  They called, on an illegal debt that was obtained in my name, indicating that I was already in the court system to go to trial and I needed to pay.  The gentleman in the Attny General's office indicated that this is a scare tactic (because in NC pay day loans are illegal, even if you manage to obtain one, doesn't matter, they are illegal, and it doesn't matter if you obtain it via the NET or in person - I asked the Attny General's office about that too.  He said they are good at making crap sound like law, but it's crap).   Further, he indicated if you live in NC and one of them manages to tick your credit report, to call their office immediately - they have an entire task force dedicated to shutting down these types of guys, and they will have it removed from your reports. The lawyer I have looking into this says they are not a viable company.  Meaning if they do not have a lic to perform collections in your state, or a "fly by night company", they can't claim to be a collection agency either.  I have BOTH sending them letters today.  I'm so happy I picked up the phone and talked with someone that knows the law and explained it to me in plain english.

Yeah dont let these jugheads scare you. I was told that they were calling from my town in the processing and summons division and that it was regarding an outstanding debt. I had to call them back to make arrangements, OR , they would revoke my license and arrest me on check fraud. I just want to call them back so BAD and tell them that these lies and scare tactics dont work with me and laugh at them, but then again I dont want to even aknowledge them because then they know that they have the correct phone number and that they "got my attention" with their ILLEGAL scare tactics. SO, I will just ignore the calls. So, people please dont let what they say get to you because everything they are saying is a lie DO NOT send them money because they CANNOT arrest you or take away your license. The only thing they CAN do is if you legally owe the debt, is send you to collections and send you an actual valid bill and give you time to respond. SO DONT EVEN RESPOND TO THESE PINHEADS!!!!!

Only the Feds can garnish without a court order, private debt collectors have to get a court order by suing you in court but perhaps they are only trying to frighten you. Read up on what debt collectors may or may not do here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf  Best of luck.

Received many calls from this number. Audobon financial services. They seem to have a lot of my personal info that is correct but they say I had a loan amount in the amount of 250 which is now up to 325 and they give me my account number( on account that I have since closed) stating the money was deposited on a specific date, which I even checked bank records and never had a deposit on the date given. They can't tell me a specific website to go to for validity ot mail me any legal papers. Although they do have my address. Literally making me physically ill. How can I make them stop? Will changing my phone number help? I am an emotional wreck.
