I set up an account with flagship merchant services and a week later I received a call from this number and decided to go ahead and apply with the representative.   after I gave her my legal name, date of birth, ss # (which I NEVER give out) we got disconnected.  I called back and a man answered and said he couldn't transfer me to the person I was speaking with because they cant re-access any ones information and he offered to take me through it again.  I explained I had just listened to 10 minutes of all the information and didn't want to go through it again.  he said he couldn't move forward without reciting all the legal mumbo jumbo.  he said he would do it as quickly as possible and off he went.   we continued on with the phone application and then he said he couldn't verify if I had been accepted or not but he would transfer me to someone who could.  I was transferred to a man with a heavy accent (austraylian I believe) and he asked me a bunch of security questions to verify who I was and then explained that the street address I provided was not a valid address in their system. ( I live in a little poo dunk town and my street has three names.)  so he went on to ask me questions and each question had four possible answers. each question had an answer that fit from years ago.  he then congratulated me and said I was approved.   I would have my card with in 2 days delivered to my door (mailing address is a po box).   its been two days and nothing.  I tried to reach American express and the automated system said my application was processed by a third party and I need to call them.      I called them and a recording stated that no one was available and to leave a message.  it was 8:30 ET  so I shall try in the am and hopefully I have not been scammed.  

This is a real company. I saw the missed called from this phone number. I called back, and guess what? they answered! It is American Express, I have a merchant account so I can accept payments online thru Flagship. American Express called me to tell me I can log in to their website for a bunch of resources, ie, downloadable AMEX logos for my website, etc. Stop worrying! Why would Flagship give out your information to spammers? It doesn't make sense!

I received this call also and have also recently set up a flagship account.

I signed up with Flagship as well and just got this call from "American Express Merchant Services!" Looks like I can just ignore them.

I'm glad I found this post. Got a voicemail in my business number from a megan with American Express Merchant Services saying she was calling to complete set up of my merchant account.  I had just (a few days earlier) set up an account with Flagship merchant Services so I could take credit cards and such with my mobile phone.  I was suspicious so am glad I checked!  Thanks for posting here.

Thanks for the info Just signed merchant services with another Co and then this Co called.. Now I won't waste my time calling back.

Got a call from them a couple of weeks ago saying they are from American Express Merchant Services.  I called back today and their greeting said that their number is no longer in service.  Wow, talk about scam.  Legit businesses would at least re-route the call or present a greeting where clients can reach them.

The same issue happened to me as well. I was working with another merchant server and "American Express Merchant service" called out of the blue to set up the account. Number 1-855-378-8443. I am always on scam alert and found this post. Figured they were moving quick to get me bank account info, thinking I thought they were with my new group. Beware, thieves are everywhere.

Female identified herself as Leslie Hughes from American Express offering me free business gifts for my "new" account.  Called American Express and there is no record of this phone number in their data base and no record of a telephone call from their phones being placed to my business.  Phony!
