Ok i got a message from my sister in law that keanen jordan called cuz i listed her as a personal reference and an emergency contact.  Considering i live 2 hours away from my family i get a little upset when i get a message saying emergency contact so i call and of course i find out its a bill collector.  he said it was an emergency cuz they were going to file suit.  THATS NOT AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!! ok so here is the thing i was a bill collector for 13 years and i know a thing or two about collection laws first one they can not threaten suit unless they truly plan on doing it second they can NEVER say anything to lead you into believeing its an emergency so get all the info you can about who you talk then go to the secratary of your state and file a complaint

I have been receiving phone calls from an unknown number asking for my mother and its very important she call them back at the 855 number and they give a claim number to reference and that she needed to contact them to sign a letter of intent. I finally decided after 5 days of messages I needed to call them back. I lied and told them I don't know who that is, and the person I spoke with (she didn't give her name) asked if I was savanna, I said why does it matter? She replied, well she listed you as a reference. So I lied again and said I don't know anyone by that name and asked if she could remove my number.

Then today I had a missed call again and "Juliana Mass" called today to confirm that she will be coming by and have her street name to have her sign a letter of intent. It won't matter if they show up or not my mom is out of town.

I'm starting to get very annoyed, those people need to go out and get a real job, maybe actually helping people instead of harassing them!

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

  A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

  A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

  A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

  A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

  Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

  A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

  A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

  A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

  A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

  If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

  A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

  Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

  No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

  This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Thursday morning Jody Peters called me and said If dont call her to resolve the issue within a few hours she'll be sending the police to either my work or my home to have me served.  She even named the street my work is on as well as my home like it was going to scare me or something.  She also called my wife and said the exact same thing.  Needless to say, its Friday morning now and no cops at my work or my home!!!! These people are scum, dont believe a word they say!!!

These annoying a** people keep calling and I keep ignoring their calls.  Theyve now resorted to calling my wife, sister and niece stating that I owe $600 to a bank that i closed the acct with almost 5 years ago.  They also told my wife that they could settle today for $250, but it has to be by 5pm.  If she didnt pay it, someone would be by Thursday to serve me with papers.  I was so irritated that I called them and they asked to confirm the last 4 of my social and when I wouldnt she asked me to confirm my bday.  When I told her no, she said that she couldnt give me any info, I then told her to stop f*&%^%g calling me. they tried this with scam on me about 6 months ago saying I owed $1400, but would settle for $900 right then.  Funny how they used the same back this time, but now its $600 instead of $1400.  The first time I was called, I had just purchased a home and when they started calling again, I had recently ran a credit report.  I wonder if anyone else had recently made a large purchase or had their credit checked?????? Might be how theyre selecting people.  Ill respond on Friday as to them showing up or not.

These people are calling my work number for someone else that I know and keep leaving messages. I am wondering if these people hacked this persons cell phone records to obtain numbers because this person only has a cell phone and only called me at my desk a few times over a year ago. The number they call from is blocked so I can't tell them that they have the wrong number and need to stop harrassing me ... any ideas? If it is a scam I don't want to call the 855-420-8267 number for fear of being harrassed myself. :-(

These are scammers.  They don't and won't comply with anything.  NO way anyone will find out their legitimate address since many aren't even in this country.
Best thing to do is don't talk to them,   hang up,   and ignore any thing they may say.
They are not going to do a bloomin thing except try to scare someone into paying extortion money.

Received a call from a Chris Tompson stating I was going to be served. I hung up on him and he call back so let it go to voice mail. The number came up as restricted. The voice mail said I would be served on Wed. At home or work. He gave me the number to resolve before then and it was the 855-420-8267 number. I'll wait and see. I wish I could get my hands on some of these peeps.
