The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This company is a fraud. They are nothing more than an illegal collection agency located in Kenmore, New York. Don't give them any of your money! Nobody is coming to bring a summons they are just trying to scare you.

My brother got a call from this number at his home, his place of work and his wife also got a call from this same number on her cell phone.  Each time, they were asking to speak to me.  My brother said they told him that I needed to call back right away to avoid being arrested and even gave my brother a docket # to give me.  I live in an entirely different part of California and don't even know my brother's home or work # nor his wife's cell # by heart.  And, I know I have never given out those numbers.  What's more, I looked up that docket # in both the county where my brother lives, and the county where I live. Using each county's court website, no such record was found under that docket # nor under my full name.  All I could think of is they got my brother's information from an online directory that list family members of the person they are trying to contact.  This possibly may be from an old payday loan from over 10 years ago but without proof of who this company really is, and considering their threat of arrest and of giving a false docket #,  I would not want to risk being scammed!

My mother just called me to say she recieved a call from this # and that I (her daughter) was going to be summoned/arrested.  They identified themselves as Lombardi and OConner in rockingham county.  they tried to get her to give them my SS # and she would not they proceeded to tell her what a horrible person I am and that she should not think i am a good girl.  they told her they got her name thru a search of my ss on some gov't website that had my fathers name listed.  they do not live in the same state as I.  She told them that this is a scan and she would not give them any information.  she called me and gave me all the info.  I called them and supposed was waiting for the lead atty after waiting 5 min i hung up called back and told whoever answered the phone to tell the "Lead Atty" that he can put the info in the mail like all good debt collectors do.  he tried to tell me he was not a debt collector i told him again that io needed it in writing thru the mail and hung up.  I called mom back and she was on the other line reporting this to the FTC.  Which I am also doing.  If enough people report them hopefully they can be shut down

Came up as unknown number on my phone, but the caller left this number (855-420-8313). My caller was Tom Garner with Legal Support Services who advised there was a sealed legal document and that I must be present at my home either Monday or Tuesday between 12 and 4 to sign for it. He said the document was out of Cochise County, but could not pronounce the county name, which made me doubt even more if this was legit. Told me if I am not home, or if I do not call to "possibly" reschedule they will have to come to my place of employment where I will have to sign in front of my supervisor or manager.

Just got a call from the same Jennifer Gonzales.  It sucks that they've got these robo-dialers, and we cannot tie them back to any business name.  Would make it MUCH easier to report them to the BBB if we knew what business we were actually dealing with.  Thankfully I've got MrNumber on my Android, so if blocked/private #'s come in, or ones I KNOW are scammers like this, it automatically hangs up on them without letting them leave a message :) LOL It's like Raid for scum :)

I got the same call---same person, same call-back number.  I'm 99% sure this is not a legitimate enterprise, but they try to intimidate and scare people into responding.  If you've ever had a payday loan, that may be the source.  I'm not saying the loan companies are behind it, but these scam operations somehow tap into their client lists.  That's the only link I've ever been able to figure out, as I used to use payday loans.  All are paid, but that doesn't seem to matter, as these people come out of the woodwork.
