Keisha -

Yes, you should have realized that sending money via green dot or internet was not the correct way to pay off your loan.  If you used either of those methods, you lost your money.

Here is a page of links to (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report those scams, or learn more about them.  However, finding the culprits may be very difficult.

this site has helped me a lot. I was scammed for over $600.00 in June of 2012, when i dome a reverse search of the number this site was the first thing to pop up. I have contacted the FBI's IC3 unit I have also contacted the FTC and Filed complaints. tomorrow I am going to go to the DA's office and see what I can do about this, I know I probably wont get my money back however I don't want anyone else to go through this

These people got me for two payments of $157.49 each. They actually put me on a payment plan....can you believe this! I had no idea this was a scam.  I knew that I took out a payday loan six years ago. I honestly couldn't recall paying it. So when they called me, I thought, "Oh no, I didn't pay that!"  They called my job and left a message on Human Resources saying that their employee has been involved in fraud and that it will affect their business. HR did forwarded the email to our company President! Can you believe this?  The president called me into the office and asked if I was having some financial problems because they were concerned about a phone call they received regarding my actions affecting the company.  I was so shocked.  I called the number and it was these people.  They said I took out a payday loan six years ago and never paid it and they were going to be putting out a warrant for my arrest. They had the last four digits of my social, my date of birth, my home address, my work address, all ACCURATE information. And I fell for it! My boss was so worried that it made me get worried.  I didn't have the money to pay them in full. They said they would drop the charges if I went on a payment plan, so I agreed to two payments to pay the debt off. They used harrassment and embarsement to get my money, and it worked! I don't consider myself a gullable person, but they sound so real and so legit.  And the whole calling my boss and having me pulled into a conference did it.  Now, they have contacted me again about a debt I know I DO NOT owe!  But once again, they have all me pertinent details.  I think these people have either stolen or purchased customer information from payday loan companies.  Even though the companies have written off the debt, or the customer has paid, they are pursuing it as if they represent the company and conning people out of thousands....perhaps millions.  They sound so legit and they scare and call repeatedly.  Real collectors don't behave this way.  Recently, the have began using a system that makes it appear that a collector is calling me from a local number. She is very rude and says she needs to verify my address to come and serve me a claim (to go to court and appear before a judge) at my job or home. I gave her the address of our local police department and told her that was my home address and I'd be there all day. If she was really from my local area, she would have immediately identified the address I gave her as being the local Police Department.... WE ALL KNOW THE ADDRESS HERE. I'm going to file a complaint with the FBI's IC3 unit.

I just talked with someone named Juan on Friday. I am out $400 so far. They are due to take another $300 in two weeks. How much personal information did they have on you? They had my previous addresses, and my previous bank.

I just called because my idiot husband set up a payment plan with them without discussing it with me.  Was paid off last month.  Upon finding this list of complaints calling them scammers, I called right away to make damn sure they send verification of payoff.  The woman I spoke with was very nice and pleasant.  After she said she was sending me the letter, I proceeded to ask her if my husband had been threatened with jail time or legal repercussions.  The woman told me that their office does not make outgoing calls and that they believe the creditor hired other individuals to outsource those calls.  Anyone in her office that makes any sort of hint towards the debtor that legal action will take place gets terminated immediately.  It is legit.  Sorry you owe money.

Maybe I'm missing something here.  Am I reading this right because I'm thinking both of you paid money based upon a threat and without demanding verifiable validation of the debt and their legitimate claim as well as right to collect.   Is this correct or am I misreading?   Did you actually create the debt and if so,  was it previously paid in full, or defaulted,  and is it still within the SOLs?    I'm just curious since many others read this board for advise,  and I would be hopeful that a learning experience can be had by all if this is what happened...thanks

Thank you! Those people even had the nerve to send me a debt rectified letter today after I called to inquire where it was since I supposedly "paid off" my debt in July of this year.  I am in Charlotte and will be filing a complaint with everyone I can!

Ms. Johnson let me start by saying I feel for you. This same stunt was tried on me regarding another family member but fortunately no information or money was exchanged. I also live in N.C.  I don't know what city you are in but if you are in Greensboro you need to call Det. Anita Holder she took our report and was extremely helpful. I also did not stop there. I called the FTC along with the FBI to file complaints and in my case there were threats and intimidation tactics used. I actually had voicemail from the man that attempted to extort us. Being  that you were actually successfully scammed the FBI would probably be interested in hearing from you. Although you will probably never see your cabbage again you might help stop these criminals from robbing others. Again I feel for you.

Mail is returned undelivered does anyone have an address different than 5555 Peachtree Atlanta GA?
