You've got to be kidding! Maybe it was you who called me. Clever scam ... asked me to look at the error log which will always have a lot of entries (any time a program crashes, it logs and entry).  "Oh, such a serious problem... This is what we're seeing... we can help". Then he directed me to look at the msconfig services which of course has a lot of 'stopped' services (normal). "Ah, here's the problem. We need to access your computer to start these and fix the problem and asked me to go the www.tvi.name so they could access my computer remotely.

I'm a computer tech, and knew the whole time it was a scam, but I was curious how they did it. I told him why it was a scam and hung up. (Microsoft never makes unsolicited calls, he had no idea which of the three computers in my house I was on, the 'diagnosis was totally bogus...etc). He called back to say "f*** you, f*** you, f*** you!".

Stay clear!!!!

I got a call from "Window Tech Support" From this number a man named Duke Wayne. I was very suspicious. He kept saying he was from ?Windows Tech Support? not actually referring to ?Microsoft? he was careful not to mention? Microsoft?.
He mention my windows operating system was sending error messages to them the last 15 days that is was going to shutdown?. I got their phone # his name which he had a hard time spelling to me like he was looking it up as he was telling me. They gave me some very long ?Customer Licensing I.D. #? and I asked who it was registered to? They did have my mother?s first name and he decimated the last name?. He said they understood that I should call back and ask for him to prove this was legit. I called back and got another individual with a very heavy accent and told them I had the wrong Number... This is definitely bogus?

I also just received a call from "Unknown".  They indicated my computer was displaying errors on the Microsoft Servers.  "Dale Edwards" (with a very strong Indian accent) asked me to get in front of my computer.  I told him NO.  I didn't respond to calls from "Unknown".  He then gave me this number (8555569567).  He also gave me his technician id (DT280595).  I played along for a while (but checking Google before I entered anything into the computer).  He had me do a msconfig command, then go to tools and the Event Viewer.  He then showed me the number of errors coming from my machine.  Then he asked me if I wanted him to clean it for me.  It would only take 15 minutes.  I told him, NO - I'm not letting anyone who calls me from an Unknown number have access to my computer.  He was very forceful, but I kept saying NO.  I told him that I wanted to do research on what he was telling me and if I felt comfortable I would call him back.  He said he would call me back in 5 minutes.  It only took me a few seconds to see all of these comments.  He called me back in 2 minutes and I told him it appears to be a scam and I would call Microsoft directly.  He tried to convince me for a minute, then he hung up on me.

Was called by 855-556-9567 at work by a woman with a strong accent telling me she was from Windows Technology. Said someone was trying to get into my computer and asked if I would turn it on. I couldn't understand her and she was getting mad that she had to repeat herself. I told her to call me back when I was home.  They actually did just now. This time it was a man, same accent. I asked him for his number so I could call him back and research the number. Typed it in here and saw these posts. Obviously a scam.

This is a company based in Northern part of India. These guys got hold of my wife's number and then told her the same story about our computer sending error messages etc. Then they got my phone number and I knew what was going on. I asked for their help to fix the issue and the first thing the agent said is that i should go and download teamviewer. That confirmed her intentions. These guys are in the business of stealing credit card information.
The phone number they call from is usually: 1-855-556-9567 and their website is : http://microsoftcompany.com/

I received a call from an unknown number from a man whose accent would have placed him in the area of India.  He said his name was John Smith (really?).  He said he was from Microsoft and had received an error code from my computer. He said he had my computers ID number and that he needed to "access my system to fix the problem" and that I could watch him do it.  "It will be very easy he said." I asked what was wrong with it and he kept saying it was a system error and that he needed to fix it.  I then asked if it was a virus in which he paused and then said "uh, yea." I told him I was not on my computer, my computer was off, and that I was at work; so how could my computer be sending him an error message.  He said that he had my computer ID and that I could verify his legitimacy with a phone number.  As soon as I said I was at work and that my wife is not using it (I had been on the other line with her), he immediately started asking for her phone number.  I told him I was never giving him my wife's number and started grilling him for information.  I asked what kind of computer I owned and that if he had my system ID he should also be able to tell me the make and model, or at least the operating system of my computer.  He just kept reiterating that he had my computer ID number and that he needed to fix it.  He eventually gave me the number (855) 556-9567 extension 1011.  Later he said to ?just call the number and ask for him, John Smith" (seriously? That?s the most creative fake name he could come up with?).  I didn't buy any of what he had to say.  I know he was full of s*** and anyone who reads this should pass along to everyone they know on social media about the scam.  There motive is to access your computer and gather your personal or financial information or to use your computer as a "zombie" to hack other computers.  If it didn?t work some of the time, it wouldn?t be worth it to them to do it at all so be aware, make others aware!

I just got a call from someone with a frantic entonation about many problems in my computer. He wanted me to sit down in front of the computer immediately.
I am too old for this, plus I am a software engineer. I told him that I was on the road, actually I am home. He then told me to call 855 556 9567 xt 1011 and ask for John Smith (another use of the most common surname) or access www.microsoftcompany.com... He claimed to work for Microsoft and he knew my computer Id. Which one, I asked... Your computer, he said. But I use 3 computers at anyone time. He didn't elaborate further. He disconnected. As usual. I did a little google search, and I am finding out that this is a scam. Good luck to all people who read this.

Same non-sense - -    Fortunately I heard only "computer" . . . "problem" -- the rest was incomprehensible, so I asked to be transfered to someone I could understand.  He gave me the number which I then looked up on this site..  Since I've been intending to call Lenovo anyway, and the machine is under warranty, I thought they might be calling with an alert or a recall or some such.  It's hard to imagine they actuially can make a living, since the pitch is spoken in a language not known by most people with phones in the US , , , ,

I just got a call on my cell phone from a "no caller id" number. since a friend called me twice this morning blocking her phone number from being available I thought it was her and answered. The man who started speaking in broken English told me his name was Frank and he was calling from Microsoft and my computer was causing problems on the Microsoft server. (HMM Wouldn't MS have a LOT of servers?) He wanted to know if I was sitting in front of my computer and I told him no, it wasn't even on so how could it cause problems on the MS server. He wanted me to turn it on so he could help me. (Ha!)

I asked for a phone number so I could call him back since it had come out blank and he gave me this number. No way in the world would I call back. This obviously is a scam of some sort but I didn't wait to find out what he wanted me to do.

A few weeks ago, i received a call from someone who presented himself as a Windows computer technician. He was claiming that 'Windows' had received alerts that my computer was being hacked, then proceeded to instruct me to allow him remote access to my computer. Because my internet web protection had lapsed recently, I believed and allowed him access to my computer remotely. I later found out that it was a scam after I checked with the site 'who calls me' and foound out that this number had also called others in an apparent scam I was told tha Microsoft never makes unsolicited customer calls.
After this scam, I called Microsoft to have them verify that my computer was sound. They checked, it was, and they offered me web protection. i said I would call them back the following Tuesday when and if I decided to purchase web protection from Microsoft. I never called.
Today, i got another call, this time from the number which I just checked (855-556-9567). The technician, 'Roger,' also tried to get me to cede remote acces to my computer. At this, I balked and hung up. Apparently, this number is also a scam number. During the conversation, I expressed my concern that it could be a scam, He then switched tactics to assure me that he would teach me how to get my money back from the scammer. The switch in tactis made me think it was a tactic and smacked of insincerity. I asked him to give me his number, which he ostensibly verified by sending me to a website 'www.microsoftcompany.com.' The number was, indeed, listed at the top of their webpage. I was still skeptical, because of the appearance of the word 'company' in the web address. Why not just microsoft.com? S
That was the point at which I told him I was too suspicious. He said 'That's show business,' and then hung up.
Whew!

This seems to be another wave of scare-tactic tech support calls claiming to be acting under the authority of Microsoft to clean out infected computers.  Their website (proceed with caution*) is http://microsoftcompany.com/.  Clever name.

The key to this round seems to be attempting to convince the victim to think that Microsoft will be taking action against them if they choose not to act.  I stopped them before the caller got to their normal routine of attempting to initiate their "live session" by having me download and run an .exe from (CAUTION*) www.tvi.name.  They referred at one point to "microsoft certified engineers" and other terms that play into the aura of authority so clearly needed for this to work.

I continued to ask them how "Microsoft" expected to fix a vast problem like this by calling land lines - moreover, wouldn't I have heard about this in the news somewhere if that's how they planned to do it?  I also mentioned that I did not have access to every one of the devices in the residence so even if I did agree to give up control of my computer that they couldn't truly eliminate the supposedly imminent threat every other device posed to the "neighborhood server".  When I asked how many devices they thought to be infected on this magical server, they responded "20 to 15".

Throughout my rants about the implausibility of everything they told me, they kept trying to compliment me for questioning  everything and reassured me that they were really authorities from Microsoft..... companydotcom.  I even got to talk to one of the higher ups who just reiterated the same mindless rant.  I felt like I was talking to a brick wall by the end.

About 50 minutes into the call (which had spanned a loud trip to the toilet) I began to feel remorse for the heated skepticism I was applying to every phrase of this woman's broken English.  I began to apologize to her on a personal level but she kept her icy professional guise firmly in place even though I knew it had to be stressing her out at this point.  She might be supporting a family with the income from this sleazy job and if I caused her to snap she might lose it.  That's too much moral grey area for me, despite my passion to be a complete nuisance to this company.

Instead I decided to make an entry on this website as it's where I found a post mentioning "www.tvi.name" which was the only really clear information I ever got out of them.

*I'm linking these sites so that others can quickly find results from a search engine - I searched tvi.name and had to dig a bit before I found anything so hopefully this increases the search engine presence.
