They called my parents asking for my husbands brothers ex wife. What the heck?! The lady screamed the whole time. Then they called back asking for her again(my mom accidentally answered this time) mom said no one lives here by that name. Then they asked for my dads name! My BIL ex wife has never even talked to my dad or met him. So weird. They wouldn't say who they were except they were the firm and she had charges against her. We hung up. So weird though

Kim,

we keep getting calls from the same person. she calls at least 10 times a day with the same info. that she know has our address and that we are going to be served with court papers. she has been saying that for the last 2 weeks. now they are calling family members saying the same stuff that they need an address and a contact number. which is funny since she calls us several times a day, and when we do call her back we get a voicemail that does not say anyone name. this is a scam, because if they were a real collections agency, they know that laws. so far this rachel powers has broken all kinds of FDCPA laws

I got a call from this number and they left a voicemail.  The message was actually for my father.  The message was really fishy.  She said she was Rachel Powers and that there were two charges against him.  I decided to call to investigate a little.  The guy said there was no one there by that name and could he help me.  I gave him the claim number and of course he had no information for me...the whole thing just didn't sound legit to me so I looked up the number for the company and it brought me here!  So glad the man hung up on me because I told him I couldn't give my dad the message.

Tom, they may actually try to speak to your supervisor or someone in our office. They did that to me and I had to assure my boss that they wouldn't be arresting me. If they do have some old debt of yours then they bought it from some other company and while they can send out papers for garnishment or court, they CAN NOT arrest you. I actually called the my states District Attny to make extra sure. But they will harass the crap out of you.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

"I called LOAN POINT and  they assured me it was a scam."

Loan Point knows that their loans are illegal in the state of Florida. If you live in FL (and many other states) and have paid your principal balance, you no longer owe them a thing. If you paid more than that, they actually owe you a refund. They probably sold their illegal debts to these people so they could at least get some money.

I just received a call from a man saying he was looking for me to serve me papers to go to jail that he had the law with him and unless I called this number and they called him and told him the debt had been satisfied that he would be here in an hour.  I called the number he gave me and the case number and they said I owed $1,900.00 on a loan from LOAN POINT USA...now I did have a loan with them but it has long since been paid...I looked back at my bank statements to prove it and the lady was really rude and wished me luck in court because I would not make arrangements with her by giving her my debit/credit card info. I called LOAN POINT and  they assured me it was a scam.

Update, he called my HR person as was rude to her as well. When she asked him to send the papers he said he couldn't do that because then there would be no need for process servers. He told her he was going to my office. But the number when he called her originated out of FL. I don't live in Florida.

Got a call today from Dave Thompson at my work he said he was an "individual process server". Was very rude. I hung up on him and then he called back and spoke to my officer mgr. Told her I was going to be served and needed HR. When she told him HR was in a different office and offered the number he said he needed my immediate supervisor. She sent them to our boss (owner of the company) and they left a nasty message with him. I tried calling the company got only the company name Global and they said without a case number they couldn't help me. Also, when he called I could actually hear other people in the background and he claimed it was the radio. Please, I work in a sales office.Legit process servers aren't going to threaten you.

Everyone needs to file a complaint on this company ASAP. It looks like they just started yesterday, and we need to put a stop to them before a confused grandmother is taken for her money or something.

Here is the link for the FTC (Federal Trade Commision) complaint form:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

I'm in Florida, so I also filed a complaint with my attorney general here.

Where ever you are, file a complaint with your attorney general also.

I'm pressing charges if I can find who these people are.
My mother received a phone call at 1:30 yesterday from someone who said his name was John Davis. The number on the caller ID was 904-484-0160. He said he was trying to serve me because charges were placed against me and was going to come to my job, but he didn't want to embarrass me with law enforcement at work. He told her I have 1 1/2 hours to contact him before he come to my job. The number he gave her was 855-647-8467 and a case#. I called them and they could not connect me with a John Davis. I gave them the case number and They wanted to try and resolve the matter without me having to "face charges" for some payday loan place called Loan Point. I told them they needed to give me more information on who they were before I give them any of my information and they said the only way they could do that is send me a court date to my home address. I said "ok". I could hear the hesitation because I called their bluff. They said their name is "Global Firm". I gave them a home address, but that's it. She said she would send something and told me "Good luck in court." I said "Thanks!"

An hour later they called my boss at work again pretending to be law enforcement with charges on me. They asked him what the company policy was on allowing law enforcement on the property. I told him I was now planning to press charges. It is officially harassment. He agreed that they have BROKEN THE LAW. He said he would be a witness. This morning I received a message (which I saved) stating this was my "final notice to contact the firm about the charges against me". They keep this law enforcement tone to try and scare you.

I'm going to try to call and get an address from them. If I can I will come back and post it. Good luck to everyone else out there. Don't let them scare you. You can not go to jail for an unpaid debt. If you go to court and the debt is legit, you will just have to make payment arrangements that you can afford. However, they have to prove the debt is legit and are not allowed to harass you in the meantime.

I just got a call from someone unknown to me that asked for me by name and said I was having charges filed against me and I should call this number and he even gave me a claim number to give to whomever answered.  He said he as a file server for someone filing charges against me. They answered Global and when I gave them the claim number they told me the same story that if I could give them some information I might not get served the papers for the charges against me.  They then proceeded to ask me the last 4 digits of my SS # which I gave them but I didn't give anymore information they were asking for.  I then realized this was probably a scam and hung up on them.

Unidentified caller left a message to call back.  Didn't say what it was for though.  Called the # and they answered as "Global".  Global what though?  They also didn't know why I was contacted.  They deal in fraudulant claims.
