Wow, this must be some giant philanthropic company because they sure are sending a lot of us to the Bahamas for free! I got 2 calls on my cell within an hour, 1 from 7316@vvtext.com & 1 from 3593@vvtext.com. Apparently it is rather urgent for us to call back NOW!

A.N. Mouse, that 1-855 alert has been posted so many times by people, that I gave up on tryin to post the correct information. Of course I know that they mean well but it seems that everytime that poor horse is beaten to death and lain to rest, someone brings it up again.
Thank you for your post.

Your information is very seriously out of date.
The source for official area code information is NANPA, which is currently run by Neustar under contract to the FCC in the United States. There is another company that administers area codes in Canada, and still others for other countries that are members of the North American Numbering Plan, like Bermuda, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
You can read all about it at http://www.nanpa.com/about_us/index.html
If you do an area code search on their site for "855", you will find out that it is a toll-free nongeographic area code that has been in use since October, 2010. I've had one of these numbers for my home and another for my business for at least a couple of years. The number does NOT charge you if you call it back. It never has. However, as with all toll free numbers, you cannot use call blocking when you call these numbers, because the rate I pay to receive calls is sensitive to the rate center from which the call arrives -- and that's determined by your phone number when I pay for your call.
So don't spread out of date or bogus information. There's more than enough damning real information out there to spread.

They are also trying to make the message look like it is coming from Verizon, which is vz & this is v v. If you don't notice you may get sucked into calling them back. I'm reporting it to Verizon, too.
Here is some info on what the 855 code is - I don't know how they are using it since it is considered "reserved"! This is from www.areacode.org This number charges you if you call them back
Area Code 855 Detail
Area code 855 is a future area code reserved for toll-free calls in which the calling party is not charged. Instead, the telephone carrier charges the cost of the call to the called party. Toll-free numbers, such as 855 numbers, have applications such as technical support, customer service, and personal use.

We were just discussing computer scams and using a trip to the islands as an example when this same text arrived. I never entered, so I can't win right.
