Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I haved received two calls while at work from a girl calling herself Lindsey. I was given a case # & advised to call GMG @ 855-687-1984. When I called GMG, I was asked for my case # & put on hold. Then they hung up. The second time Lindsey called, I asked her what it was all about and who in the world GMG is. She could not tell me. In the past I have suffered from social anxiety and severe depression. So, these kind of phone calls are one of the last things I need! I plan to report them to that B.B.B. Lindsey's phone # was unavailable.

SOMEONE NAMED STACY CALLED THIS TIME TELLLING MY PARENTS I AM BEING SUED AND LEGAL ACTION WILL BE TAKEN IF I DO NOT CONTACT THE FIRM IN 24 HOURS AT THE SAME 855-687-1984 NUMBER GIVEN A FEW DAYS AGO TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND MY CELL NUMBER.  YOU HAVE NO CASE AGAINST ME AND ARE GETTING NOWHERE WITH ALL THIS. GET A LIFE! AND TRY WORKING FOR A LIVING INSTEAD OF BEING A THIEF AND STEALING MONEY FROM INNOCENT PEOPLE.

It is.   Total scam.  First off, no legitimate process server tells you in advance he is going to serve you.  Secondly, they always say they have a "complaint" against you, as if they were some sort of prosecutor.   Total nonsense.  Just trying to scare you.

THIS PERSON CLAIMING TO BE SCOTT DAVIS CALLED MY PLACE OF WORK ASKING PERSONAL INFO ABOUT ME AND MY WHEREABOUTS. WHEN HE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE INFO HE WANTED HE BECAME ANGRY AND HUNG UP THE FIRST TIME, HE THEN CALLED BACK ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER STATING HE WAS SCOTT DAVIS AND WAS CALLING TO SERVE ME PAPERS FOR A COURT DATE ON 6/26/14 AND IF MY EMPLOYER DID NOT TELL HIM WHERE I WAS HE WAS COMING UP TO MY JOB.  MR DAVIS THEN CALLED MY CELL NUMBER FROM AN UNKNOW NUMBER AND LEFT A VOICEMAIL STATING HE WAS SCOTT DAVIS CALLING TO FOLLOW UP ON A COMPLAINT SENT UP TO HIS OFFICE AGAINST ME AND INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL THE FIRM DIRECTLY  HANDLING MY CASE AND LEFT THIS  NUMBER 855-687-1984 ALONG WITH A REFERENCE/CASE NUMBER. WHEN THE 855-687-1984 WAS CALLED  THE PERSON ANSWERED CORPORATE OFFICE AND WANTED THE CASE/REFERENCE NUMBER, AND DENIED HAVING A SCOTT DAVIS IN THEIR DIRECTORY AND STATED THEY WERE A CALL CENTER FOR DIFFERENT COMPANIES. I REPORTED HIM AND HIS NUMBER AND STORY TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE POLICE AND FURTHER MORE BELIEVE THIS IS ALL A SCAM.

i RECEIVED A CALL OUT OF THE BLUE CLAIMING A CIVIL SUITE AND THAT I MISSED MY COURT DATE A WEEK AGO BECAUSE OF 2 FAILED ATTEMPTS TO SERVE ME. THE STORY THICKENS
THE WOMAN SAID THEY WOULD MAKE A FINAL ATTEMPT TO SERVE TOMORROW; THE MAN AT THE 855 -687-1984 SAID I MISSED COURT BUT WOULD REINSTATE THE 25% OFFER IF I PAID TODAY OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT IN COURT. THERE WAS ALLOT OF OTHER BABBLE BUT IT ALL ADDS UP TO ZERO AS FAR AS VALIDITY. ALL TOLD IT TRIPPED OVER ITSELF SEVERAL TIMES AND INSISTED THEY WERE DOING ME A HUGE FAVOR; NOT!!!!

Scumbag a***oles called be too and said they were serving legal papers. Anyway i've called legal authorities and only they can serve legal documents. Number they called from is:8556871984

Got a call on v-mail, asking me to call this number.  Said it was Anna Miller, calling for Alex Hite (no one by that name here);  also, recited a "case number".  Tone sounded fairly legit, but: (1) it did not identify any company, agency or firm it was from;  (2) it threatened some kind of "action".   Under certain circumstances, believe this may be illegal.  I called back anyway to see what info I could get.  My call was routed straight to an extension number without identifying the place in any way, and no name was given as associated with the extension number.

I certainly believe it was a scam call, although no request for money was made (so far).
 

They called my house and left a message with my son to speak to my fiancé and said that he needs to go to court or he will be summoned or sued. He was even given a docket number. When I called back it rang and then sounded like a mobile number. If it were a courthouse the automated system would have came on and said the court information. We are beyond livid that we've also gotten the credit debt phone call, AND he never owned a credit card!!!!!!they need to get a life.

This phone number contacted me about credit card debt that I do not believe I owe, I was told if I didn't pay I would be sued. I once upon a time (8-9 years ago I believe) had a visa card I defaulted on, but this card they're claiming I owe on is not even on my credit report. They answer their phone "corporate office" and when I asked them for their information (name and address) I was told no and basically hung up on.

This is a scam. They are calling me at work and calling my house threatening to take legal action against me and will not tell what it is for. They said I would be served paper in an hour if I didn't call. It has been three days and still no papers????? I wish they would stop the harassment.

Told me a process server would be by shortly unless I called this number back right away. Server never came by...
