Just realized as you all did this charge on my phone.  I called the number as listed on the bill ... waited for a long time and finally opted for the automated 'discontinue service'.  So I entered the number and hit the # button.  The automated lady said that she would provide me with the confirmation number ... then I heard "Press 1 if you wish to hear the number again" so I did ... in neither case did I get the confirmation number.  So we will see .... too bad I didn't get a live person as I called from my work number ... whiiiiiiich just happens to be from a police department. :)

Had this happen twice. I think it happened because I gave my cell phone out for a survey that seemed to be for a legitimate site I use regularly. However, it was scammers just wanting my info to text me and charge me. I paid for it once thinking it was my dumb mistake for giving out my number and also thinking I was just paying for incoming texts (duh--one text shouldn't cost 9.99).

The second time I argued with US Cellular and they explained these companies signed me up for some subscription service (that--guess what--doesn't exist--I received one text and was charged 9.99). U.S. Celluar should not allow these services on a phone unless the customer specifically signs off for them to be set up. I understand many people may want legitimate services, but the cell phone  companies need to take a clue from credit card companies. If someone charges something to my card that is not legitimate, I don't have to pay it. Same should apply here. U.S. Cellular is issuing me a credit of 9.99 as a courtesy...however, I already paid the first one. Scammers win getting money from me and U.S. Cellular. How do we combat this?

Yes, this charge was on my phone bill for my daughters line, and no one has a clue how it got there, but it charged me $9.99.  It came as a text to her. How do we clock these things to keep them from happening???

My wife received a text msg on her US Cellular phone to which she texted back "stop" as the message instructed her to do. Behold! a charge from "Envirotips" for $9.99 on our bill this month. I called USC, and the gentleman was quite helpful. He said that he would remove the continuing charge from her bill, but that he couldn't do anything about the current $9.99 charge. (I'm not giving up on that one so easily, though). He said you could get the local USC store to print out a detail of your text msgs, in order to see what came in, and what was replied to. We plan to visit to get the $9.99 removed from our billing.

11."Cramming": When monthly charges pop up on your telephone bill for optional services that you never authorized such as voice mail, paging, or club membership, it's called "cramming." You may be asked to return a missed call because it?s 'Your lucky day' and you?ve won a trip to Las Vegas.
When the call is made, an automated system is activated and you are unknowingly enrolled in a club or program, and the charge is placed on your phone bill.

The crammer might not even need to do anything except simply pick your phone number out of the blue and place charges on your bill through your local telephone company, claiming that you agreed to purchase some services.

Look at your bill closely every month. Charges for optional services should be itemized and show the name of the company providing them and its phone number. If you did not authorize the services, call that number and insist that they be canceled and the charges removed from your bill.

I found odd charges on us cellular bill. We asked us cellular about this scam charge on our bill they told us it wasn't a scam that we must have got a text and then texted them back to get them to stop and that got us signed up for it - sorry but that's a scam to me. Anyways so us cellular gave us a number to call and said we had to call it to unsubscribe to it well when you call it a machine that instructs you to cancel the subscription you must enter in your 10 digits number then hit pound well when I did that it said that my number is not subscribed with their company so they cant un subscribe it. hmm so tell me us cellular how does that make sense?

IF YOU GO TO SCAMBOOK YOU WILL SEE THERES MORE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BE SCAMMED!

No idea who these guys are, but found out in the monthly bill that they want me to pay them $10.00. I don't even like sports! Apparently they called me around 10:00 on 5/14/12 - I'm usually not awake at that time, anyway. Ridiculous. Who are these yahoos?!

Its a scam.  There is no prize.

This site is not run by the people who sent you a message.  This site is for discussing and sharing information about phone calls.

You are lucky that you accidently landed here.  If you had gone to the scammer's site they would have tricked you into giving them money, personal information, or both.
