Debt Collector
Just received a call form Nationwide 844-205-6998. Informing me of a debt that needs to be settled today or I would go picked of for failure to pay a date back in 2010. I explain, I do not owe anyone and please stop calling me. Called back on several occasions wouldn't give me a name. I hung up!

Got a call from 855-651-3951, looking for someone, N. James, with case number 2014-202166.  I don't know the whereabouts of this person, nor do I care where this person is.  They left a call back number of 855-947-7266.  I plan on contacting the Attorney General of their state, along with Homeland Security, of which I am a member of.  Scum like this needs to spend time in FEDERAL prison.  If there is any way to accomplish that task, I will make sure to do so.  BEWARE of these jerks.

If these people are threatening someone's life, health or even with bogus arrest warrants, you should contact the FBI immediately and the Attorney General

I would recommend also keeping recordings of these calls. Notepad also with details, time and date of calls and content of the call. If you don't have a answering machine that records, get one.

This type of a call is a serious criminal matter (as opposed to the "administrative law" that covers the FDCPA violation).  Please file a police report ASAP.  Not tomorrow or next week, NOW.  Call your local police or sheriff's department and file a report.  Let me assure you that you will not be "bothering" law enforcement --- they will be glad to take a police report

I have been getting these calls the past 3 years about this time of year when they know people get their tax refund checks and they try to scare you into paying fake debts.  The first year I freaked out. They called 8, yes 8 members of my family. THey called my job and people in my building. I have a friend who is an agent for the state. She looked into it and this is a scam. All you can do is ignore. Last year someone threated my family and called my aunt a $*(#)* when she told the lady she must have been made fun of in high school to scam people and want control over them by scaring them. This past year they called again last week and called anyone and everyone at my job. The best suggestion is let your boss know that this is a scam and they are doing it to thousands of innocent people. MOST employers will be totally understanding.

These people are calling from a number of 855 area codes. However, they will no longer call me!!! I found out which telephone provider they use (RingCentral) and I contacted their legal department. This will stop them. When they call, contact RingCentral with your phone number (the number called) and the number(s) they called you from. This is an important key in getting these fraudsters to stop.

These scam artists need to be reported to A.B.C. and or C.B.S. or N.B.C. news if not all of them. Also to the F.B.I.; Attorney General ; and Homeland Security, for making death threats to several people.

If we as consumers report this to the media as a scam maybe someone from one of the major networks can do some heavy investigations and have these folks put in prison.

What they are doing is a federal offense!

These guys have made threats to several people on their life! This is serious and someone needs to contact Homeland Security and or the F.B.I. about this to use some type of tracking system to put these folks in prison.

They need to be reported A.S.A.P. !! I and several others need to contact also the Attorney General's office and report these people of a scam and who are putting threats out on people.

I just wanted to give an update on this phone number. I received a phone call from this phone number last week - and since I've dealt with similiar phone calls in the past - I immediately reported it to the PA State attorney general.  To put all minds at ease - The attorney generals office just called me & confirmed that this IS A SCAM but unfortunately the phone number's are not traceable so they cant identify who is actually making these calls. If you get on the phone or have family, friends, or even your work place getting calls, contact your states attorney general as it seems that they are aware that this is happening to many others. Fight back and do not give these people any info!.

For at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employeers threating to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe).  Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested.  The threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.

Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot).  They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area.  The scammers are using the following business names

Kaufmann and Associates
Sanderson Blaine & Associates
McKenzie Reid Associates
Kennedy, Kline, & Associates

Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior.  They include the experiences of victims as well as a former employee or two that quit within a week of finding out exactly what was going on.  They also include responses from consumer advocates and people who are really criminal justice professionals advising victims of what to do

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I received a call through a distant relative who said this number 8557191725 had called to let them I would need lawyer and that the sheriff would be at my door the next morning.  I could not get any information from the caller so I researched and found their Mall location and sent a letter to the Mayor of that City.  For those who are reading this, do the research find out where they are located and let the Mayor, Town Council, City Attorney have all the caller information, and everything you have found on the Site.  These people are going through Public Records to find out information so that can try to take your money and are also using your private information to make fake credit cards and fake charges.  Do the the homework, find them like they find us!!

I am sick and tired of getting calls from 855-719-1725.  I am a legal assistant and an attorney called them and they won't speak to him about it.  They call my ex-husband's family harassing them and it has to stop.  They are threatening and when I called them they said the police were coming to my job to arrest me.

My son-in-law/ daughters received a phone call from 855-719-1725 this morning from a woman named Renee Moore asking for me by name.  He told them I did not live there and they told him that I had charges against me and when he asked what the charges they said that they  could not tell a third party what the charges were.  So he asked if there was a number that he could give to me to call them back.  He called me and told me what had happened and I knew it was a scam immediately, because I have never had any kind of charges ever.  When I called the #  855-746-3946 it is not a working #.  I told my daughter and son-in-law if they call again, just to say their is no such person there and if they persist, then ask them for their name so we can have them arrested and that they know this is a scam.

I just got a voicemail from this number looking for my ex-husband. It stated some case # bs but I knew when my phone rang that this was bogus because it came up on my caller id as a Cambodia call.....well I sure as heck don't know ANYONE there. THIS IS A SCAM, DO NOT ANSWER THEIR CALLS, IGNOR ALL THEIR ATTEMPTS TO COLLECT $. I hate that these companies can continue to get away with this crap and I feel sorry for those that don't know any better and give their money up to these scammers.

When she answered the phone (Investigator Strong) all she said was 'investigations'. No company name.  Said I owed for a payday loan I took out in 2008 from a BMG Bank.  It's 2014!!  She didn't even know what BMG Bank stood for.  Said loan was for $1,899.99 that I did not pay back.  Told her I paid back all of my payday loans, its not on my credit report and I've been scammed by these types of calls before.  She said, 'okay we will just put the information through for court'.  I said, 'okay, thank you' and hung up!!

I also have received this calls from 855-719-1725 the first time they told me that I had a warrant out for my arrest and that they would be coming for me (they said it would be the person on the phone and  a Tom Green County Sherriff, if I was not at home they would come to my place of employment. I have never been in trouble with the law! I called the Sherriff's office and asked if I had any county/city warrants for me , the lady on the phone laughed and said that they get at least 8 calls a day for this scam!! well then it dawned on me, I work for a debt collection agency and we have guidelines that we have to follow and they are FEDERAL LAWS !!! The biggest one is WE CANNOT THREAT COURT,ARREST, WE ALSO CANNOT IN ANYWAY INPERSONATE A LAW INFORCEMENT AGENCY!!! THAT IS A BIG OFFENCE!!!!  SO please know that this is a huge FRAUD!!!!! block their calls
