They just called me and didn't ask for any one by name just went on to say that I needed to contact them immediately...my drivers license and social are being used and they need to talk to me.  She said she was with Morris and Chessner Company....Her name was Alisha Resner...sounds fake to me if they didn't I identify who they are looking for.

(1) Proof of debt must be mailed to you (2) You have a right to contest it (3) You get your day in court (4) Then, the burden of proof is on the debt collector (5) You have the right to contest any judgement against you. "An auditor" was looking for him. What? Broke his red pencil?

I had received several phone calls from family members stating that an Auditor from this company was looking for me.  Today,  the sheriff's office showed up at my job and served me with a summons on a court date regarding a worthless check on my payday loan.  I called a couple of attorneys who told me, if I was served best thing to do is go to court,  pay the bad check off and hope that the judge doesnt slam me with a ton of court costs!  Damn....you guys give out bad information on here.  Take it from me, a $900 loan is now over $3k and they are gonna garnish my wages.  Plus I owe the county fines for writing the check and its on my record!!!

I guess you have never been served an eviction notice, an notice to appear in a civil case or been divorced with kids.  Elspeth you are a dumb a**. All of the above has notices to appear/summons is served by a civil servent or a cop because they get paid by the service.  This is important only because its  in the mail doesn't assure that  the person gets the notice.  AND HE/SHE DOES RECEIVE THE NOTICE....duhhhh  where the hell are you from Kentucky?

I thought the SAME thing about "Heather" working in the courthouse and not realizing that she had a court date or "was in trouble" as she put it! and you're right, if anything involving COURT or anything LEGAL, would involve WRITTEN NOTICE beforehand, not phone calls! OH might i add that if you have a court date, you would be mailed 2 NOTICES, one regular mail and one certified! AND if you have an outstanding debt, the debt collector would not only harass you with phone calls, but they ALSO MAIL LETTERS & STATEMENTS! so you obviously should know whats going on and not receive a phone call saying you're going to court out of the blue! these people are ridiculous and this needs to end!!! i feel sorry for the people who HAVE fallen to these liars and scammers!

Anyone that falls for this is allowing these scumbags to continue to do what they do, and it's not collecting debts. I got call from someone posing as an "office" and to tell me that he was going to stop by my office because he was picking up a warrant. I told him what for, he told me a debt from 12 years ago that I never even heard of. But I'm not stupid, 1. The police do NOT arrest people for outstanding debts. 2. If they were they damn sure wouldn't call you first to give you a heads up. And 3. When I asked the "officer" on the phone if he was a policemen he changed the subject, I asked again he changed it again. If he was a cop he would have identified himself as a policeman, and "officer" can be anything...

There ya go!    "Know your rights"  As so many of the other board members have repeated over and over again,  "Learn and know your rights"  That is the secret to eliminating the Telephone Terrorism that has swept this country over the past few years.  Not the DNC as so many complain about.  It is sad to read so many posts repeated over and over on this board describing how some huckster is going to skin them, and they believe it.  Education is the key to people becoming aware in the world of electronic theft and extortion.  I know that people appreciate it but I sincerely doubt that most actually understand how much money and hardship the members and participants of this board has saved over the years.

They "come off as debt collectors" to me, as they would to the FTC, and are covered by the FDCPA definition of "debt collector". That South Atlantic appears to employ the extortionist thug variety only digs their shilling punks a deeper hole to live in. I laugh because the last time I was called regarding a scam loan I 'supposedly" owed,  I asked them to send me verification of the debt.  He said he couldn't do that.  I told him by law he had to send me verification and that I knew the rules as I once was a debt collector.  He said OK and hung up and didn't call back.  Now I get calls from numbers that appear as VoiP.... I just let it ring, 9 times out of 10 they won't even bother to leave a message.  Just know your rights.  And... as stated if you owed a debt they would have to provide verification in writing.  If you had a court case or file you would be served papers....
