PS, it's illegal to use an auto-dial and hang up.

I had my machine on, and zzzzip. An instant hang up and no message. You'd think that after two years, THIS number would be out of service, but Verizon is run by a bunch of pimps who make money off these calls.

You can contact the FCC about it, but I guess they know by now and prefer sitting on their brown and smelly thumbs to shutting down this number. So just get a Panasonic phone that does what scum-eaters like Verizon won't do...block specific numbers. I'm putting 855-800-3144 on my BAN LIST and they can go pester somebody else.

These clowns have called me twice in two days. The first time I didn't answer, and they did not leave a message. The second time, I picked up, and it was a man with a thick Indian or Middle Eastern accent claiming to be from some IT help desk, just live everyone else on this site are reporting. He gave me the same speech about viruses and malware, and I told him I have a virus scanner. He said this was a new bug, and that my virus scanners and firewall couldn't do anything about it, and I needed to boot up my computer and follow his directions to get it fixed. I told him I didn't believe him, and to prove it by telling me which model my computer was. He said that he didn't know what the model number was, and after a pause asked me if it was a Windows OS. I knew he was full of it, and said I was working. He wanted to know when to call me back, and I said that I was too busy to deal with him. After reading these reviews, I decided to call them and got the same home improvement voicemail. I reported it to the FTC and am planning on re-reporting them every time they call me, and informing them of my actions every time until it stops.

I received a call from this number yesterday 9/25/12. The caller asked if my computer was on because there are others on my computer and wanting me to turn on my computer so he could help me clera all the mallicious activity. Thank God I didn't listen to him.
I called the pn# from my caller ID, a female voice recording said the company was:
MY LOCAL HOME IMPROVEMENT GROUP, I did not leave a message.

Indian on the other end told me he was from the company "Mobile Choice" that supplies Optus.
He asked for me by name, Which is Scary!
I said why are you calling me from the USA, as I am in Australia, he immediately changed his accent and said in the worst possible Australian tone  " NAaaaah we in Queensland mate"

I called his bluff and he hung up on me.

I called this number straight back and it was an Indian woman on an answering machine for " Housing and marketing appraisals". Scam Central.
Someone needs to take charge of this and lock these thieves away.

My Mother got the call, today and she is well a dinosaur and knows nothing about the computer. She could not understand his Indian accent, or even what he was talking about with the computer. She said "I might be dumb when it comes to the computer but I smart about people and I know it is a scam". Those of you that have older parents please spread the word, don't let them fall victim to the crazy's. I called it back and it is HOME IMPORVEMENT GROUP. Yeah right.

I just received a call from this number. It was a man with a thick Indian accent. He immediately tells me he is from IT and my computer has been messing up and he can help me fix it. I told him that I did not call or report this and my computer is fine and hung up on him.

this guy calls with indian accent saying he is from IT, walaware, etc. all the other crap you guys are saying to. this is so stupid.

i also got acalled from this number and they also said the same crap and they asked for money so they can fix my computer but i asked himv a lot of questions and he hang up.

I just got a phone call from an indian man also saying that my computer was infected by a virus and malware and he was calling from an IT HelpDesk.  So I asked him what company was he calling from he said and IT Help Desk.  I asked him who sent you the report..he couldn't tell me..SCAM!!!!!!  Hang up the phone and before you do tell them not to call you again!!

Just got a call a few minutes ago from the same number, and a man with a thick Indian accent.  He wanted me to go to teamviewer.com and let him have remote access to my computer.  He said I had malicious ware and viruses on my computer and he was going to show me where they were at so he could help me with them.  NEVER!  First I told him I am not giving him permission to get access my computer remotely and if I had something on my computer then just tell me the file name and I can remove it myself.  He doesn't have to show me anything.  Um yea right,  his real intentions are to still any information they can find on your computer to steal your information: example, passwords, bank account, ssn, etc...    I was not born yesterday.  I wish we could do something to warn people of these types of scams.  He was very pushy and demanding in trying to get me to give him access.  I eventually told him if someone wants to steal my identity or other information then more power to them.  My credit sucks and I am dirt poor.  He hung on me.  HAHA

Spam call re: they have info from my IP address. I hung up right away and filed a complaint with FTC.gov. I urge everyone to do so...if there are enough complaints, one of the agencies may investigate (FTC merely compiles...up to FBI, DOJ, SS to investigate).

I recevied a phone call from this number, it was an Indian guy saying that he worked for IT tech support.  He said he was calling because they were alerted that there was a virus on my computer.  I told him I don't have a computer.  He asked me who used a computer and I said no one.  I don't have a computer and I haven't for months.  He immediately hung up.

Got a call from 8558003144 could not understand him at all he kept telling me something was wrong with my computer I asked if he was from norton because my computer is really messed up he said no and kept asking me to boot up my computer I told him I was at work and I really was and he says just boot up your computer for me he kept insisting I was near my computer even though I was at work going to report to FTC

Same thing......I just wanted to ensure this was a scam because everyone stories sound similar.  It's official, it's a scam

Caller ID states call is from "Toll Free Call".  Caller identified himself as "Brandon".  He said he was calling from a company called "Computer Maintenance IT Help Desk".  He said he received a message from my computer [that indicated there was a problem].  I told him this must be a scam or solicitation [he denied it] and asked him for his company name, phone number and location. He repeated the name of the company again and said he was calling from India.  I asked him to remove me from his call list and declared that I am on the national do not call registry for the United States of America.  He said "OK" and ended the call without argument.

that number been calling me many times the past couple weeks. I to use the do not call list but doesnt seem to stop the really disreputable ones.. they never leave a message and when ever I answer they hangup without a word.....

Just got a call from a man with a heavy accent.  He asked about my computer and I told him I did not have one.  He said I did according to his records.  I nicely began speaking in an unknown language and he hung up.

Scammers from India. Tried to make me download some program into my computer. The man says his name is Andrew with a thick Indian accent!

I hung up and they keep calling!

Just got a call from this number.  Man with Indian accent. only words I could understand were "maintenance department:.  I told him twice I could not understand a word he was saying and to put someone on the phone who could speak English.  When I asked a third time, HE HUNG UP ON ME!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the 3rd call I got from this number.  In the first call a Man with heavy accent told me there were some virus on my computer.  I believe this to be a scam called Phishing (attempting to acquire information such as credit card details) and he would have me logon to his web site.    Caller-ID shows TOLL FREE CALLE, 855-800-3144.  
I did not answer the other calls.
If you got a call from this number you can file a complaint with the FCC by completing a simple online form at http://www.fcc.gov/complaints.  The more that file complaints the better our chances are of stopping them.

he said he was from optus,and that they were sending me a new phone,he told me info,that only optus would have.than he ask for my driver licence number and i gave it too him.

I got the same message.  It sounded like the man was Indian.  He said he worked for IT tech support.  He would  not say specifically what company he worked for.   He told me to boot up my computer.  He then said he would help me find out where the junk files were on my computer.  He also said my computer would crash.  I hung up on him.

A woman with an Indian accent called me from 855-800-3144 this morning. She told me that my computer was sending distress signals to hers and that I have a computer problem in my home. She asked me to purchase help from her. When I told her I have no computer problems, she argued with me.  

I asked the woman to tell me what kind of computer I have in my home, which she should be able to answer if she can see my computer is in distress. After a long pause, she finally answered that I have a windows machine. I have an Apple Computer.  Don't give any information to people who call you from this number!!

Received a call from 855-800-3144.  A man named "Bill" with a heavy accent (Indian?) said he was calling from "IT Help Desk" and that my computer had been attacked by malware and spyware.  I asked how he knew that, and he said Microsoft gave him my IP address and he could see my computer.  I hung up and he called back immediately!  He tried to get me to connect to the Internet and go to Google and he would send me some free software to clean the malware.  Very persistent - everytime I told him I didn't believe him and asked him to prove it, he said he would connect me with a Microsoft Certified Technician.  I even told me he didn't sound like someone named Bill.  I asked for his phone number so I could call him back, and he said "my phone number is the number I am calling you from."  DUH!!  

I've been working with computers for a long time, and I know that NOTHING some stranger tells me to download from the internet is going to fix my computer in a good way!

Got a call from 855-800-3144 saying that my computer is using windows and it downloaded a malicious software.  He wanted me to turn on my computer and let their certified windows technicians check which software was downloaded to my computer.  When I asked him which of my computers he was referring to he was baffled and started stuttering.  I pressed him for more information about him and his company and was told he worked for I.T. Help desk.  He spoke so bad I had him repeat all he said several times because his english was terrible.  He sound like an Indian so I asked where he was calling from and he said India.  When pressed for his phone number he hung up.  I called the number that was on my caller ID and a voice mail picked up saying it was some sort of home improvement group.  The call stink to high hell and appeared to be a scam.

The software they told me to download was a remote sharing program. A great way for them to get my bank account information and passwords. He said my computer would most likely crash within the next week. Good thing I have tech support from Best Buy. Don't trust these people!

Call from male with accent from perhaps India.  He said my computer was infected with malware & he could fix it.  SCAM!!!
