Debt Collector
They called me saying that my fiance owed a debt back from 6 years ago, and said they were legal mediators who were trying to obtain money from him. She said if the debt ($500) was not paid in full today, they would press 2 felony charges against him with his county. I was stupid enough to fall for it. They scammed me for $509.95. They also obtained my name and dedit card number, along with my fiance's SSN. They are a scam "company" called Vantage Point Services. After I found out for sure it was a scam, I confronted this so called "Vantage Point" about their scamming and that they will go to federal prison and told her to get a real job and also  told them that I'm filing reports with the FTC, and my local police department, and the state attorney general's office and the 3 major credit bureaus about his SSN being stolen and identity theft and the lady laughed at me and said she isn't scared for going to federal prison because she'll get "3 square meals a day that I will be paying for." These scammers are really heartless people. I hope they all get caught

They're scammers - no one is going to show up to serve papers - and no legitimate business calls people to give them a heads up that they're going to serve them.  They try to scare people into paying for bogus debts by saying that they can hold off on taking the alleged debtor to court if they'll pay a "fine" or so much of the "debt".  Always demand a debt validation letter from them showing original creditor, amount owed, date loan was taken out, date of last payment, and whether the collector is legally entitled to collect said "debt" in your state.  They won't send anything, because they can't prove you owe on this debt.  Report to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.

It's a scam - no one gives a heads up to someone they're about to serve!  No one is going to show up - they're scammers trying to scare people into paying money for bogus debts.  They would also have had to take you to court to get an order of garnishment.  Next time they call, tell them you've reported them to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General (and do so).  You may also want to put fraud alerts on your financial information, as well as with the three credit agencies (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion).

Same thing here. Exact same vm. If it is a bill collector, I have news for them. They are in violation of FDCPA guidelines. They left the vm for me on my brothers phone, which is third party disclosure, and they are threatening legal action. It happens every 6 months or so. I hope they call again. Try the Attorney General to complain.

They called me the day before yesterday saying the exact same thing that Bob posted. They called me again yesterday saying the were going to show up at my house. This is the second time this has happened to me. They never show up. I called them back telling them that my lawyer was present and I wanted them to explain the reason they keep calling and the man just hung up. Its a scam they try to scare people to obtain their Acct#'s, address, personal info, etc. Do not at any moment give them any information.
