I just got a text from this # in reference to a job i supposedly applied for , i had used a job search engine called snagajob yesterday and have been getting calls and texts for bs since. snag a job is a scam and they immediately use or sell your info once you register.

I just received a text from a women name Mikeda (apptree) stating to call about regarding a administrative position. I found that it was weird that i received a text but i went ahead and called anyway. she ask me some general questions blah blah and that i would receive a email tomorrow regarding this position.. she claims she is just working for the client and what i asked her is confidential ..she kept going about me going to school and i told her that i wasn't interested in their schooling do the fact that I have schools in mind that I plan on attending..she claims its free to speak to an rep regarding school. she is full of it..Im not calling no rep about no schooling nor will i accept her call when she calls me back.

I have received a text to my mobile from AppTree about a Warehouse Associate position that I "applied for." Normally, I would have looked up the number to ensure that I was not calling a number that internally charges $9.99 a minute or some scam like that, but I called before I remembered to check.

So, even though I do not recall applying for this position I called them anyway.  You reach some type of call center, where you hear lots of other folks chatting away, and they appear to read from a script.  I am asked to confirm what telephone number (mobile) I applied with, and although I know they have already texted me to my mobile number, I give it to them anyway.  Even when they ask you how many years of education you have, and I reply 16 years, they ask me if I graduated high school- so you know these guys are not the sharpest pencil in the pack either.  They continue to ask you to confirm your level of education, and whether you wish to pursue further education.  In my case, if I wanted to pursue a masters degree, for which I replied that I was not sure.  

He asks if it is OK if the line is recorded, and I respond that it is OK, but I find it highly unusual for this type of practice to respond to a job application.  He advises that they act as a third party verification center, so that the potential employers know more about you.

Ladies and gents, if it smells like a scam, and purrs like a cat, it usually is what it is....

Now, they have validated my mobile number, and I anticipate receiving unwanted calls pursuing me to get more education.  These unwanted calls will chew up my minutes real fast.

I ask how long this will take, and although he replies 5-25 minutes, the call is over in 2 minutes.

This is the same vicious circle I am familiar with ( Virus and anti-virus software).  If I infect world wide PCs, then I can sell them anti viral software for profit.  If I invent radar for the police force, then I can sell radar detectors to the public for profit.... etc.  Now, it would not surprise me if T-mobile, Verizon and Sprint banded together to set up call centers aligning themselves with telemarketers, that can send out text messages via computer, and have us unwittingly reply back, and the cycle starts.

Yikes.

I suggest you not reply back.

Got a text from this number to call about an admin. asst. job I had applied for - it says it is from AppTree, which is a job listings site.

Did you get a message saying call back about a cashier job you applied for? I have never had anyone text me to call then back about a job. Sounds like a scam to me.

Just wanting to know where is this location
