it's a scam.  If you ask them to send you documentation showing proof of the debt or returned check, they hang up on you.

I got a call from these people telling me they are going to take me to court.  I asked them to mail me something proving the debit as I know nothing of it.  They told me they don't have access to mailing me anything.  They can only fax it.  That's not right!  I asked when this debit is from and she could not give me that info either!

Before paying anyone over the phone, ask them to send you the information via mail regarding the debt you may or may not owe.  If they are legit, the are required by Federal Law to provide you with the information requested.  If they decline, report them to the Federal Trade Commission.

I got a call from a janet poole saying that i still owed 800 fo an old payday loan when i only borrowed 400, i was tricked into paying 200 because they had all the right account numbers but then i started thinking no way thats right im sure i paid off that loan and so i called the payday loan company and called ther ONLY collection company they said they work with both had said they did not transfer my account to these people and they had no idea who they even where and they both advised me to not pay,so i stoped payment on the other 200 that was going to come out of my account i called the BBB and the FTC and explained EVERTHING they said dont pay what they did was buy my old info which is why it seemed legit. i was told that if it was legit then i would have received a valadated letter of deb(t which is the law but i didnt kno that), and when asked they never sent one saying they didnt need to since they had my info, this was a few years ago and now are calling agin saying they are going to take legal action that i bounce the check (which i didnt do i put a stop payment) and that it was a federal case and fraud, ive reported them twice to FTC anyone kno what i can do?

Hey Nick, etc,

I don't know if this company if legit or not all I know is that they called me mid 2012, didn't call back until Jan 2013. Then this lady calls me last week, talking about how she hasn't called me because she had to attend over 14 funerals in a 2-week time period. Now, I sympathize with her, but that is not my business and the reason she is calling me has nothing to do with that. She calls me at work and I am very busy so I ask for her number and I tell her I will call her back on Monday. Now on Friday she calls me again and starts in again with this same story about all the funerals she has attended. I tell her Maam we have already spoken and I said I would call you back on Mon/Tues why are you calling me. She says well its that I'm so behind with my work because of all the funerals I had to attend and then she goes on to tell me about the people of whom have passed on. Now, this is not my business and I don't even understand why she finds the need to tell me all of this. Once before she called me to tell me how she does a great impersonation of Bernie Mac at a comedy club and if ever I'm in her town I should stop by to see her. Really! I am not trying to see or hear her lame impersonation of Bernie Mac because actually she was awful. Now, I said all that to say this, if she is legit, why haven't she gotten to the point of her call in all the times we have spoken. I don't know if she is legit or not, either way, at this point in my life, I don't have money for her.

These Guys are not legit!  They are scam artists who are trying to panic people into giving up their hard earned money...

I've been getting calls from them for 6-8 months now, threatening me with legal action, claiming to have dockets to file with the county court where I live, needing to deliver docs, etc.  I've told them 10 times, bring the docs to my office, bring the docs to my home, OR deliver them to my clerks office and I will respond when I get a court notice...

Each time, the calls stop for a month or so, only to resume with the same nonsense...  If anyone has been baited by these fools, and have given them a single dime you have been bamboozled, and the writer who claims they are legit and you've worked wit them, FYI, I have a family member who works for one of these scam companies who use google voice or other phone number screening software, and they cruise these types of sites to put 'real' posts in, to help scare people into giving up their hard earned money...

GTFOH with this outdated scam!!! LoL!!

I would bet your bank did NOT contact a bill collector.  Did you contact your bank to ask them about it?  This sounds like a scam to me.  If you talk to these scammers again, demand a debt validation letter be mailed to your home.  Don't give them any personal information -- if they are legit they should already have it.  You should also ask for their mailing address so you can certified-mail  cease communication letter.

I'm curious because I was contacted by this company and I have no idea why. I've never taken out a payday loan in my life. The only outstanding loans I have are with my bank, and the installments are paid automatically. I see the statement every month. NEC's voicemail message clearly stated it was an item returned by my bank. Why would my bank, who I've been with for 20 years and have a spotless record with, contact a bill collector instead of contacting me first? I'm puzzled, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this. At this time I'll have to say that I disbelieve the folks who are saying this company is legitimate.

I called the FTC, and the department of commerce for the state I resided in.  I explained everything I was told about this company, and I was told this is a complete scam!  I was told to file a complaint with my state, with the FTC, and some other federal investigation company.  In fact, this is a common scam that has started in the past 3 years where some illegitimate company will buy up some old debt information - usually payday loans.  Then they call the person and scare them into giving their bank account information.  They don't even have a website!

I have received a call last night from them stating that I wrote a bad check in 2010 and owed $900.00. I did close a bank account awhile ago so thought it could have been legit. I was stressing out! With Christmas next week I was depending on my check friday to get the last of my presents! Then I thought about things and the bank name that they provided me with was not correct! I closed that account way before 2010! They have also contacted my family! What SCAM artists! And right before christmas!!

Actually you need to give your attorneys information if you do have one, by law if a collection angency does contact you and you were to say "contact my lawyer" you legally have to give your attorneys name and phone number especially if the company contacts you again for that imformation.

I just want to apologize to everyone for my lying.  I made up the whole story about being satisfied and tried to get everyone to believe me and pay bills that probably wasn't theirs to start with.  I do apologize such much but this is how I make my living by cheating people from their money.

When I received the call from this company I thought it was a scam myself till I called the pay day loan company and they gave me the number to the people they sold it to. Turns out they were legit so I called back asked for paperwork to be e-mailed to me within 30 minutes I had it and paid my bill. Just FYI its not a scam if a bill collector calls you and wants you to pay back money you borrowed you are the scum bag for borrowing money you couldn?t afford to pay back that?s why our economy is in the toilet. If I had to guess you are also the person who bought the house you knew you could never afford and now want the government to bail you out.

Just think of it Julie,
All those years lost. We could have been kicked back in a boiler-room with the aroma of Rid-X wafting around us. The sound of snot-nosed brats braying at the Social services woman. The gentle melody of the crack-w***e in the next cubicle serenading that guy about her EBT card.
And to think that I've wasted all these years. Those countless hours on the beach gone. And all the while I could have been a bill collector..polishing the (rented) wheels on my '84 Impala..that I still owe six payments on. Or the hundreds of runs I've made down slopes in the United States, Switzerland, New Zealand and Peru..when I could have been studying for a fulfulling career as a smoke-blowing B.S. Artist.
Oh Julie, if we could all but live it again. The life of a dirt-bag debt collector would be it. Never have to worry about impressing the neighbors. The only time you could impress them is if you were on time with your rent. A status symbol is a Chevy Cavalier. If your tags are current they think you're dickin' a drug dealer.
Yep Julie, that glamorous life would be something. Sit at your cubicle all day with nothing else to do but lie through your teeth. Be kinda' like being an Atty. but you could still be dumb as a stump and not have to ever pretend you weren't. It would be grand! Doncha' think?
Oh well. Julie I guess some of us are just meant to be normal people. That means we have to be happy with those simpler things in life. Like love, respect, honor, family, children, grand children...the insurance rates on an '09 Z-06, Hagertys' insurance rates in general, flood insurance..for a Mtn. home, why is my daughter now interested in getting her Doctorate..when I didn't think I could get her through High-school?
Yes. The glamorous life of a debt collector would be relaxing. Just think! You'd never have to go to a Graduation! Not even a High School one! Hell, probably not even a Junior High school one. The only shots you'd have to be concerned about would be stray bullets and rabies for the dog. The neighborhood kids all think that Fathers Day is for MLK. They've all had lots of Fathers though. They change weekly.
Your typical bill collector comes in one of two flavors. The first one thinks that a 300lb. white woman with no teeth and 2 inches of black roots growing up through her bleach blond hair-do is a sex symbol. The other one thinks that 16 Square Ft. of booty is what all men want and that's why she's going through 3 or 4 a month. Yeah, they're a glamorous bunch.
I don't know about you Julie, but I think I'll stay with my simple life. The Pulsating Project Life of these bill collectors just doesn't sound like my cup of Tea. I'm gonna' stick with the basics. Like trying to find a wheel for my wifes car..that she bent up on a curb. You ever try to find a wheel for an S550 AMG? While you're trying to avoid all these up-scale businessmen. Looking for somebody you've never heard of. For a f*****g Pay day loan?
