Doesn't matter what information they have on you.  Per the FDCPA, you should NOT pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - a debt validation letter showing that (1) you do owe a debt and that (2) your callers have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this DV letter within five days of their first call is a violation of federal law.  The DV letter would show the original creditor, date of loan, amount loaned, amount still to be paid and date of last payment made.  A bill or invoice is *not* proof of debt, by the way.

Follow the steps in what you need to know. A legitimate debt collector agency should not have a problem with giving you a real business name and address you can google and verify via google street view, BBB etc.
For extortion Scam Operations, file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..

I do hope that you demanded a debt validation letter proving that you owe this debt to them - that is your right per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  And, per the FDCPA, you should NOT pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - this proof of debt within five days of their first call to you.  BTW, a bill or invoice does not meet the criteria proving you owe a debt.  Also, it doesn't matter if they had all of your information - lots of scammers can get your information very easily.  They obviously didn't have your new address, since you say your "old apartment".  Going from the other posts, I would be extremely cautious and make them mail proof that you owe this debt to them!

You also can't have a "judgment" against you unless you've had your day in court - been served a court summons, gone to court, LOST your case - and only then would a judgment be made against you.

I actually called back after a little I posted earlier. I had called my sister who has a paralegal buddy. When I called back I asked for all the information they had. They gave me everything, my social, my job address, my old apartment. The administrator was giving me my options to avoid a judgement for a Best Buy account that I never paid off.

These people keep calling me, my husband, and my husband's ex-wife and saying they're going to serve me papers. This is insane! I'm sure they're probably calling my ex-husband too. Embarrassing and unnecessary.

Don't worry about it: You don't need a lawyer to deal with con men.

You should report this call to the authorities immediately as Elspeth indicated in the message above.

I got the message to call this number from my brother. I saw all these posts and got nervous. When I did call I wouldn't give them any information. The administrator said I could have legal representation contact them on my behalf. I can't afford a lawyer so I hung up.

Trust me, if there really was a "subpoena" for your grandfather, your callers would KNOW his location and where to serve him.  BTW, a subpoena is used to compel the production of evidence or the testimony of a witness - and going from the other posts, the caller is an obvious fraud.  No one gets a heads up they'll be served - with a court summons or a subpoena - the process server just shows up, unannounced.

Got a annoying/worrying call into my inlaws vacation home in florida regarding MY 94 yr old grandfather!!!! The number was 855-872-0484 and they left a record indicator! Looking for him to serve him with a subpoena !!!! About what? How? When? They would disclose any information! That was yesterday! I made the mistake of calling back from my cel, and now they just called me asking for the physical address. I used their reverse excuse of not letting me know any details of the paperwork, since it's private! I said, well I feel this is a SCAM and I'm too trying to protect my grandfather. Today was Vanessa, very nice American lady! Yesterday was the meanest lady ever!
I'm wondering how to I know this is true? Anyone else?

I got a call from this number.  They asked for my old roommate not me, so they don't have her apartment number obviously, or her correct phone number.  They tried to get me to relay a message to her to have her call them and give her the apartment number, but I said, isn't that private?  I can't give out her info, plus if this is a legitemate organization, first they should have volunteered the company name without me having to ask, and second, they should already know her contact information.  They said something about "the litigation office, WM Group"; well WM Group doesn't exist on Google, at least not in any litigation-related capacity.   Seems like a scam to me, but I won't know for sure because it is really none of my business.  Except, how the hell did they get my phone number?

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

These folks continually call saying if they do not hear from our employee before 5pm they will come next week to serve a warrant.  when told that they absolutely will not be admitted if they show up, they continually repeat their mantra of they will be here if they do not hear from our employee.
