He obviously knows something. They called him and it's been proven too many times to count how the money is broken up and it turns out to be highly leaned to the broker and not the charity.

Funny thing is Epilepsy Foudation isn't complaining. They have recieved millions from donation pick up's. Don't bash a good thing when you know nothing about it.

rcv'd call from 855-968-4423 stating that I had wrote some bad checks and that if I didn't get in contact with them they were going to send the Police.  I called that number and all I got was a fast busy signal.  Under the  FDCPA isn't that considered threatening?

2nd phone call in 2 days - no message left

just looked up 855 area code & it is a new code with no geographic specific location
& it also said it is like a 800 or 866 area code

Still think this a spam/scammer call because 855 is not a Chicago or Chicago suburban area code .
So where in the heck are they calling from & why so secretive if this is a plain old charity call?

did not answer         If I find out for certain that it is someone asking for money for a donation to a worthy cause, I will never donate to that cause again !!!!!   PESTERING  people is not a good way to receive donations .

There are also some complaints on this site filed under "185-596-8366" (Caller ID "out of area" or "unknown name").  They typically call and hang up without leaving a message, but they call repeatedly and people think they are scammers.  Now I understand that the last number is not being shown on our Caller ID.

This 185-596-8366 number called us back again this morning.  The caller claimed to be "Richard with the Epilepsy Foundation."  I asked him to please remove us from their calling list.  He was very nice, apologized multiple times, and said he would do so immediately.

The Epilepsy Foundation is a legitimate charity headquartered in Maryland which describes itself as a "national voluntary agency."  As the above poster indicated, 855-968-3662 is the number for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.

The next time they call, answer it and ask them to stop calling.  If they are a legitimate charity, they have to abide by this request.  Make a note of the date and time so, if they call back after that, then you can report them to www.donotcall.gov.

JON, I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE PURSUIT OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.  IT'S NOT THE COUNTRY I GREW UP IN, WHEN MODERATION WAS THE NORM.  HOWEVER, THE FTC DOES, IN FACT, FOLLOW THROUGH WHEN ABLE.  THEY ACTUALLY PUT A PHONE 'TRAP' (NOT TAP) ON MY PHONE IN ONE CASE WHEN A COMPANY LEFT A TELEMARKETING MESSAGE ON MY PHONE THAT I REPORTED AS BEING VERY DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT WAS EXPLOITATIONAL OF PERSONS OWNING "DISTRESSED' PROPERTIES.  THAT DID STOP THAT TELEMARKETER COLD, AND IREAD IN MARCH THAT THIS PARTICULAR COMPANY IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE FEDS.  THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THE FTC IS BEING OVERWHELMED BY REPORTED VIOLATIONS BY BOTH REGISTERED, AND FLY-BY-NIGHT SCAMMERS.  AUSTERITY MEASURES HAVE CUT FINANCING OF MOST GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS.

I, too, had an extra 1 in front of this number.  It MAY BE a political fund-raising, or campaign, number.  I've had other numbers with the double one.  The only one that finally got through and left a message was a political endorsement.

By the way, '855' is not in the list of regular area codes for states.

Got a call from 1-855-968-3662. Caller ID said out of area and they hung up once I picked up.

Yep. Got this 1 again. Yep it said OUT OF AREA. But I DID call back & talked to a guy & told him to remove the # & he actually was NICE about it & said he would & it'd take about a week. I never donated to the Epilepsy thing. I have LUPUS so I'd donate to THAT! Hopefully these calls will STOP! (until I get MORE crapola from OR or WA or whatever! This time it was on 4/16/12 @ 3:49 PM CT

Never give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 99% for themselves and sends 1% to the charity. Best to donate directly to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

I'm so tired of these jokers calling & hanging up! This time it was on 4/15/12 @ 5:08 PM. If it IS a "Charity" how come they have a right to bother us? 1st time I got an 855 & it said OUT OF AREA on the caller ID. DNC & Unlisted makes no difference. They STILL find a way to sneak in. GRR!

WHEN DOES A CHARITY BECOME A NUISANCE?  WHEN THEY CALL TWO OR THREE TIMES A DAY, DESPITE YOUR REQUEST THAT THEY NOT CALL.  AND YOUR REFUSAL TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR CAUSE.  YET THEY PERSIST.  AS FOR THE "DO NOT CALL REGISTRY", A SHAM TO MOLLIFY THE MASSES.  AMERIKA IS THE GREEDIEST NATION IN THE WORLD.  OUR GOVERNMENT SURVIVES ON AVARICE.  TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING TO RESTRAIN THE PURSUIT OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR IS THE HEIGHT OF NAIVETE.

Also recieved a call from this number.  When I answered, they simply hung up. Don't know where they got my number.  could have very well been a dialed error.  In any event, this is definitely an unwanted call. Beware whoever answers this line.  Let your automatic answering service handkle the call, if you have one.

I have had enough of these calls to go back to a smart phone.  Unfortunately, the landline is needed for my TV and Internet, but maybe not.  I really like my landline number so I might try to get them from calling.  I also get Telefund, Inc at 512-916-0420 CONSTANTLY.  I think they're an automated political line.  Pffft.

Got a call from this number with no message on 02/09/2012 at 7:50 pm.  Caller ID says Out of Area, but a search of the number shows it related to The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago (EFGC) which is in our area.
