I received a call from Steve Taylor on my cell phone and left a message reciting my name and address regarding documents to be delivered to me tomorrow. He said that I was an additional contact (to someone that I knew several years ago) and that I needed to be available Monday to sign for documents. they require MY signature and if I wasn't going to be there I needed to call the law office at 857-203-0589 to make delivery arrangements so that I would not be counted and "charge you for a missed delivery". He then gave me a "case number".   He had my information correct ( name and address ) and the other person's name.... something is very weird with this !

Debt Collector
Well my wife has had the same phone call today. Steve Taylor left a messade stating that they have tried to serve papers twice and he was calling to make sure that my wife would be at home tomorrow so she could sign for the papers since she co signed on something for our oldest daughter...... Problem with this picture is my wife has never co signed on anything for our daughter, nothing zip nada...... Here is the best part about this whole deal...... If you know anything about Collecting Debts then you know that a debt collector can not talk to anyone about the debt unless they are given expressed permission too.... I spoke to the folks at the number my wife was given and they informed me that it was in deed a attempt to collect a debt and to serve papers for a civil matter..... They also told me that BMG Law owns the debt and they are just trying to serve papers for BMG Law..... Two things happened in this conversation. 1 they gave me information pertaining to someone elses debt and 2 they spoke to me about the debt without the other person's permission...... Both of these are against the Fair Debt Collection Laws..... Word of advice.... Read your Fair Debt Collections Laws also check statue of limitations in your state pertaining to revolving credit collection etc..... In Florida where we are located a collection company has 4 years from the date of Charge OFF to attempt to collect the debt so you will have to pull your credit report to see when it was charged off.... Also when they try to contact you again inform them that you wish to seese all communication by phone and that they will be receiving certified mail stating such......

I and my son also received a call yesterday word for word but no name from the caller but was a male.  When I called the 857-203-0589 they answered "Corporate Office" but no other name. They then mentioned a friends name changing the story they told my son.  I called the local police to report this.  They cant do anything of course but will watch my house closely today. I dont like the fact they verified that there will be nobody home during a certain time frame with both of us.  Freaked me out!  I just hope whoever is doing this gets caught!!!

So I just received a message from a Steve Taylor stressing the same as everyone else on here:  Legal papers being delivered to my house and confirmation I will be home or charged a failure to receive fee.  So my question is, is this a scam or actually legit?  I do have a Chase account but I've never owed any debt in my life and have outstanding credit.

This guy called my home phone and my cell phone on Friday. Clearly he has some info on me from somewhere even knew my address. I didn't call the number because any legit place wouldn't call from a 999 999 9999 number. Said I was getting something on Monday and to call if I wasn't going to be home or I would be charged with a failure to deliver. I work from home. No suprise, nobody showed up. Don't fall for this crap. They probably want you to give them info over the phone because you are afraid.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

LOL Shill alert! Any reputable company woudl not be calling from a 999-999-9999 number and would clearly state their company name in any voicemail that would be left for you. DO NOT buy into the shill postings you see here!

But stupid transparent lies like this just make you look as stupid as you really are. No wonder you can't get real jobs!

They called me two times today. First it was from 999-999-9999, the second time it was from 857-203-0589. They left a message, I called them back but they don't answer. The voice mail says Amninpour & Associates... I'm really scared. Does anyone know what this is about?

A man named Steve Taylor calls the mortuary and says that you need to sign legal papers or he is going to charge you for a missed visit. It is a loan scam for a person that does not work here.
