I also received a call from Joe Mayers from this Law Firm. He ended up hanging up onme, but after he said my social security number & name would be Black Listed & that I'd be arrested on severalcharges for cashing checks & not paying back loans. He also said I needed to appear in court in Los Angeles next week on Thursday. He even said I would be in danger of losing my current employment!!

A man with a Middle Eastern accent named Joe Mays called and left a message saying he was with the William Hopkins Law Office and there is a criminal law suit against me.  He wanted me to call him back at 858-201-4786 to confirm my address for them to send the court documents to my house and that they were also going to send them to the Kansas Police Department for me to go pick them up so I can appear in court next Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in Los Angeles, CA.  First off, I live in Missouri, not Kansas.  This jerk has no clue how our court system works.  If I were truely being sopenied, the court would KNOW my address and would hand deliver the papers to me!  I have been getting tons of Pay Day loan calls from Middle Eastern accented people over the past two weeks, so I'm pretty sure this is just another one of their scams to try to get me to send them money or give them my bank account numbers or something.  How stupid do they think I am?

This was an attempt to scam me into paying for a payday loan I never received. They stated that a lawsuit had been filed against me in Los Angeles, CA. Luckily for me this same situation happened to me before so I was not fooled and when I told him these were fraudulent attempts to collect money from he hung up the phone.

He left a message saying he is calling from the Law Office of William Hawkins and that my case file will be turned over to the police.  Funny how he leaves a message to return the call but leaves no file number.  I looked up the attorney's name with the phone number.  Surprise, Surprise info doesn't match.

Called today threatening legal action.  I wouldn't let him talk, saying I knew he was a scam artist.   He said he would report me to my local police department for further action.  Not my first time at this rodeo.   If you have EVER applied online for credit, you will probably endure these calls until you change your home number.   They are all scams.  A legitimate debt collector HAS to notify you in writing, by law.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I just received a call from this number - 858-201-4786, from a John Douglas, who left a threatening message stating that I have a law suit against me in the amount of $300.00, from Payday Loans.  I never applied nor received any money from a Payday Loan company.  The caller stated that I need to call back immediately and speak with the Senior Attorney (no name given), to speak about this matter further.  I called the number left on my home answering machine (above).  This person turns around and calls my job number.  So I speak with the caller on the other end, he pretty much is states the same thing in brief, and told me that he cannot speak with, that my local police department will pick me up, first thing the morning at my home.  And papers would be served at my place of employment. first thing in the a.m.  I was able to briefly tell the caller on the other end, that I know that this is a scam, and that I had just received several (3 to 4) calls just this past week from a Richard Law Firm also out of California for the same law suit (this one in the amount of $450.00).   After stating this information, I was hung up on.  I tried calling back three or four times (literally), and no one answered the phone.  (I made this call from my cell phone).  I returned back to my office to try the call again to see if anyone would pickup, after two tries someone did,  A different person of course.

Beware, scam artist are on the rise!
