I have been called twice from this number. A male started to ask me questions off a list no matter what I said to him.  I just hung up at that point. They have called the house twice since during the day when I am at work, no voice message left. From the questions I did listen to, they seem to be trying to gather information about the number and age of household members, etc.  I say just let it ring or start to ask them a bunch of questions back till they give up and hang up on you.  I like to always ask the person if female if she wants to go out for a drink because I am an old sex offender and can't get dates with normal young gals.  I'm not but it makes them hang up.

I saw this # pop up a bunch of times recently, so I googled it first thing and found this site.  Thanks for all the helpful posts!  I called the (800) 676-5883 number first thing and someone answered on the first ring.  I explained that I found the # on this site and please remove my phone from the calling list.  She said she would...we'll see!

I got this call earlier today.  I told them I'm on the national Do-Not-Call list, to which the guy responded that this call doesn't apply.  I told him that doesn't prevent me from hanging up on him, though.  A few seconds later the guy actually called me back.  I told him to put me on *their* Do-Not-Call list and he said "We don't have one" in an extremely rude manner and hung up on me.  I did *69 and called the number back, but it was disconnected.

Thank you guys for their 800 number, I called and left a message telling them there are reports of harassing calls from them and that they did it to me as well, so tell their employees to act in a professional manner and stop lying about not having a list.  I somehow doubt they'll do that.

I just got this landline for my DSL, I haven't used one in years.  I do plan on using it, but not right now.  I get about 5 calls like this everyday from different companies, including some known identity theft scams.

Hey everyone! I hate companies like this and after doing a little research I found that this one is a member for the Better Business Bureau. If you go to the BBB website (bbb.org) you can file a complaint about this company and in order to keep their standing in the BBB, they have to address your complaint in a timely and reasonable fashion. The form only takes 5-10 minutes to complete!
Good luck getting rid of these turkeys. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm on the internet and this pops up. I have a Call Alert program. They went to voicemail but did not leave a message.

If they call back, I'll answer it and have some fun =)

I will not hesitate to talk to a lawyer and report them to the BBB.

Thank you, internet

What you do is this.  Use a FAX software program, especially MightyFax that can be used with your PC to send a fax.  Make sure that you have a 500 page document just in case some idiot turns on the fax to stop your calls.  However, the 800 number isn't going to accept any faxes, so......just set the program to return calls every 15-30 seconds if not answered and keep making calls up to 5000 until fax is completely sent.  In case you didn't know...800 numbers cost them money each time it answers.  You'll put them out of business.  If you do find a fax number for them, well.....send the 500 page fax document...example: Linux for Beginners or the Complete Linux Bible which you can find on the Internet for free.  It will send their paper to the trash or if they have a digital fax, it will overload it and if they subscribe to a service, after 20 pages, they charge for each page.  Just keep sending.  Have fun, guys...

Oh, yes...it did work for me on past company's.  Sometimes they will call you and leave a message on your machine to stop it or even threaten you.  Well, now you have them, they are now bothering you.  Have I ever gotten hit by them?  NOPE!  They just went away and never got a call again from them.  Works every time.

I received many calls from this # and never answered because I didn't recognize the number.  I looked it up and found this site.  I decided I would annoy them the next time they called.  Well, they just did and I answered speaking "Chinese" (I do not know Chinese).  I figured that was a language that no one in their office knew (chances too great with spanish).  The girl sounded confused and said she had a wrong number.  I doubt very seriously they'll be calling back. Try it, it just might work!

I too have been experiencing harrassment from this phone number(858-384-1160. They now call a few times a day and just hang up when I answer.  I went to the website and emailed them to request in writing that they remove us from their call list.  My email was sent back, stating "Send us your email, not your spam".  I called the number listed on the website (800) 676-5883 and spoke with someone claiming to be a supervisor named Amanda Krass.  She was very polite and stated that our number would be removed and appologized for the harassing phone calls.  We will wait and see if this proves to be a resolution to the problem.

When they called I answered, "Hello" and they hung up. I called the number and got a recording that informed me that they are a research firm in San Diego, CA.  Also, they said they are a member of the Better Business Bureau. I suspect it's an "offshore" boiler room.  What they're really up to, who knows.

Alli - I don't know who you checked with, but you're wrong.  This is directly from the FTC's website:

"#
What about telephone surveys?

If the call is really for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is not covered. Only telemarketing calls are covered ? that is, calls that solicit sales of goods or services. Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the National Do Not Call Registry."

They are NOT exempt from the Do Not Call laws- I've checked it out. I wrote them and requested they do not call me back, in addition to stating that over the phone every single time they call- they're burying themselves, along with all the other companies whom use the ANI's to call throughout the nation.

I have received several calls from this number. I have asked each caller to put me on their do not call list only to be hung up on. The last/most recent caller from that number (caller had female sounding voice) claimed her name was Daniel Rompier and said she was calling from "Marc Research" (I asked her to spell it to confirm it) in San Diego, CA. She would not supply an address (When I said will you give me the address of the company she said no). I Found no listing for a "Marc Research" on the internet when searching however when I call the number listed on the Caller ID I get connected to a Directions in Research company out of San Diego, CA. which is, I believe, the actual corporation behind the calls. Daniel claims that she is adding me to their do not call list. If the calls do not stop I am going to contact a lawyer and would advise anyone who is getting as many phone calls from these people as I am to do the same.

Got a call 30 minutes ago that I missed, did not recognize the number, so I Yahoo searched it and found this web site.  I like the answer the one person told that nice marketer, saying that he or she was in the health insurance business, I hope that got them off the 'hook'.  I am sure this firm will call back as so many have said, so I am going to be nice and not tell them what I really do [like it is any business of theirs].
How does a company get immunity from the 'DO NOT CALL'?

I received a call from 858-384-1160 last night at 9:01PM Central Time. I picked up the phone, but remained silent. A man on the other line said "hello" two times, then commented to someone near him, "it sounds just like someone breathing, I'll call them back every five minutes for their ignorance." He then disconnected.

I immediately returned the phone call and followed the prompts to get to their directory. I then entered "IZZ" (the numbers 499 on the phone)and was transferred to Paul Izzo's (Vice President)voicemail. I left him a detailed message relating the exact date and time of the call as well as the threat by his employee to "harass" me every five minutes. I explained that I felt my local police, the Attorney General of CA, and the BBB would find this threat interesting and that any contact from his firm was to cease immediately. I demanded he return my call to verify I would be harassed no further.

I'll let you all know how that goes.

I called Directions In Research directly 5 days this week.  I was promised that my number would be removed.  The last straw was when this San Diego company called me at 10:55 p.m. last night.  I live in Texas, 2 hours ahead.  That is just way too late at night to be calling.  They are doing surveys for medical, health, and many other types.  Apparently Paul Izzo is the Vice President, but he doesn't take calls.

I sent emails to all the people's email address listed  by 'jusme'.  All we returned as 'permanent delivery failure'.  These are not legitimate email addresses.  They sure have a way of harrassment that's apparently legal enough to get away with.

It stinks.  I can't afford the extra $15/month to add blocking on my home phone.  I guess they will eventually tire of calling, hopefully.

It appears they won't ever stop.

From Memphis-I have been getting calls from this number everyday for the last two weeks. They call at the most inappropriate times (dinner, bedtime, etc), and never leave messages. When I call the number back, I get some of the same responses discussed on previous posts. (Members of the BBB, etc). For some reason the call block feature offered through (AT & T) *60 cannot block these calls.

Received a call when I was at work today. I called the number back thinking it could be related to some job searching my husband and I have been doing in southern California. I reached the message that thanks me for calling the research company based out of San Diego and that they are part of the BBB. I also get the message "if you need further assistance hit pound now." I did and it hung up on me! Guess I'm going to have to try the email someone listed above.
