Not necessarily true. And what do you care? Companies who violate FDCPA and use trickery usually are trying to collect an uncollectible debt.  That's a real thing.  The original creditor already sold the receivable and wrote off the debt; these guys are probably working Zombie Debt.  

Also, in this economy, why so judgey about people owing debt and not wanting to be harassed?  Maybe because you're in the debt collection industry and trying to discredit people who report harassment?

If you had paid your debts, then you wouldn't be receiving these phone calls, simple as that!

100% chance TAXGUY works with CSC..  There is absolutely no way this company is doing ANYONE a favor other than themselves.  They are making phantom threats and scaring people into paying off debts that are no longer valid or have passed the statue of limitations.  TAXGUY is a fraud.

There is a form 1099-C and can be filed by creditors on any unpaid debt over $600.00. So whoever this company is, they already have your information and are doing YOU a favor by trying to resolve it with you. It is considered additional income to you if it's not paid back to the creditor unless you are insolvent. This must be reported to the IRS by the company which legally owns the debt. For more info on the 1099C Form, go to www.irs.gov and type 1099c into the search box. Good luck!

It is a scam when debt collectors threaten to turn in a 1099-C on an UNVALIDATED debt:

IRS Statutory Notification Letter - Publication 908 referenced as IRS Form 1099.
The typical scenario is you receive an official looking letter that reminds you of a debt that you have failed to pay. It then refers to the creditor's "right to forgive this debt and submit a Form 1099 to the Internal Revenue Service on all bad debt accounts. The last sentence usually reassures you that the creditor does not intend to take such an action at the time, and then urges you to remit payment to "avoid any additional collection activity."

If it's a scam, how do they have all your info? Isn't the point of a scam to GET information? Sounds like they're just doing their job, whatever it is. If it's debt collection, wtf are you doing buying s*** you can't afford? Pay up!

I keep getting calls from CSC, talking about the IRS and turning in a 1099-c form. They are very vague and won't go into any details. My husband went off on them and hung up. Today I got a call from "Alicia" saying she was returning a phone call. We never asked to have a return call. I told her that I was sick and tired of the scam calls and she got so rude and told me that she was going to turn me into IRS. She didn't even know who she was talking to. I told her not to threaten me and she said she wouldn't stop. WHAT DO I DO NOW? Does anyone know who I can contact to turn these people in and get them to stop calling me? I need some real advice. They are calling all day every day up to 9 o clock at night. By the way we don't owe what they are trying to say we do. Please help!!

I just got a message from miss martinez from csc about an important tax matter. Did you ever figure out what they do or who they are? I understand its a scam but I literally just filed my taxes a couple hours ago and I am concerned that they have my info. What do I do?

this number is saying they are calling re:  'tax reporting and compliance matter' and gave a 4 digit number w/ a file number.  she is going by the name Ms. Martinez, although I am almost positive it is just another alias for the same lady that is harrassing others by the name of Erica something.  Stay away and be sure to ask more questions as I smell a SCAM.

yes eman is right about the 1099c tax form..if you receive a 1099c then you ask for a 982 tax form fill it out and it will state your insolvent and then you don't have to pay those taxes and i believe then the creditor cant write the money off..I'm not sure about the last sentence where they cant write it off for there taxes

1099c is a tax form where the debt collector is trying to make the federal government collect taxes on the money you owe them so they do not show a loss on their taxes.

I recieved a message from Lynn Green and this phone number. she said she was from the reporting and compliance department and stated they had a complaint filed against me with the last four of my ssn said it was a reporting matter and urgent. to call her back before she makes a final decision on this matter. it made me upset for a whole day until I came online to check the number and found this post. I will do the same as all of you and call the IRS. I believe it is illegal to protend to be the irs and an official person. I believe the laws state that they must tell you whole they are. and I know they can not herass you or a family member or an employer. thank you all for the information you posted it was very helpful.

I received a message from "The Office of Len Green" for my daughter. Message stated it was a Tax matter and they left the last 4 of her ssn and a case number. My daughter hasn't lived here for over 10 years. I think they been calling here on and off for the past 4 or 5 years. I will not call them back...and good luck to them finding my daughter.

I was contacted by Erica Smith with this company in response to an an old debt. She threatened to turn in a 1099c unless I made payment arrangements with her within 24 hrs. After reading the above comments I am glad that I finished the call without doing anything. She wouldnt even tell me the name of the company.

I received a call from them.  It's a debt collector trying to collect an invalid debt that was 15 years old!  I told them it was invalid and too old for them to collect even if it was valid.  They threatned to garnish wages and tax returns I told them to "bring it on"  I'd love to sick my attorney on them.  Then "Erica Smith" hung up on me!  LOL

Alicia called my Mom's number and ask to speak with me.  My Mom told her I did not live at that number.  She ask if she could deliver a message and Alicia stated she needed to speak with me about a financial matter.  She would not give anymore details.

Lynn Green has been calling me and my employer.  From the beginning it sounded like a scam.  They are very official sounding, but vague and are phishing for information.  I too was told there was a 1099-C filed on me and my SS# last 4 digits.  I reported them to the IRS, FBI and California Attorney General.

Got a call from this number saying she is from the office of Erica Smith and leaving the last four of my social, saying she needed to talk to me regarding an "incident" with implications to my social.  I have not called back.

Received call from Lynn Green referencing my last 4 digits of my social security number. She said it had to do with a 1099-C that I filed. Upon looking it up, 1099-C is for an US Departing Alien Income Tax Return. I haven't filed a 1099-C. Has this happened to anyone? Do you know what the purpose of the call might be?

Received a message on my cell phone from Lynn Green with Tax Reporting Compliance Department saying to return call immediately and gave me the last four of my social and a reference number.  She also called my elderly Mother and started asking questions regarding my name, address and social.  My Mother did not tell her anything.  "Lynn Green" left information and basically made my Mother upset enough to call me.  Shame Shame on harassing the elderly...especially when you have my phone number, called it and left a voice mail.

I received a call from "The offices of Erica Smith" telling me to call this number and reference a particular file number. The woman called two days in a row on my work phone. I havn't called her back yet, but thought I'd check online because I had a feeling it was one of those collection companies that call about old debts that should be retired by now. At least now I know to call her and tell her to stop calling my place of business.

This is from a collection company For an old Credit card I told here that we have filed for BK. and not to call again  I gave her my BK# and she stated that she would put it into her system   So I will not be getting anymore Calls  I stated that I have better  not or I will get to my Atty. have have him Take care of it

"Alicia" is calling my number for weeks, leaving the same type of message as above, to call her back within 48 hours regarding my tax number being reported (I don't have a Tx Number... she must mean my SS number, which I'm not about to give her.)  The first time I called, there was a man saying, that she's not there and he didn't know when she'll be back.  I never called her back after that and now I'm getting calls from her again, to call her back to clear this issue withing 48 hours, etc.     Now I'm checking this column and finding out experiences of other people.  I'm not about to call her EVER.

I called the number and they answered "How can I help you". I asked the name of the company and the call taker refused unless I provided my name and SSN.
