Well, guys, the number is at it again. This time it's a male voice claiming a local merchant is claiming a returned note from me. This is my "official notification". No request to "press 1". Instructions are to call the number. Search says it is a VOIP number out of Butler, KY. They actually used a variation of my name in the recording. Glad I didn't answer.

I keep getting calls from guys claiming to be calling for the police department and they are asking for donations for different funds.  Most recently its been calls for their annual children's Christmas show.  The calls are usually from 240 area codes.  For the last two weeks I been getting calls from "Brad Jackson" at 240-258-8030.  He has also call a couple of times and the caller id on my phone says "trunk".  Today I received a call from 240-258-3030 and the guy said his name was Joe Martin and he was also looking for donations for the police departments.  If I call that # back it says "The Google Voice Subscriber you have called is not available at this time".  They never give me a straight answer on where they are having the Christmas show, which police department and the e-mail I asked them to send me with the event brochure or flyer with all of the details never seems ?to go through? to me.  They only want to do COD with FedEx or UPS.

After a bit of digging, connecting dots and pattern matching this seems to be a 29Prime scam from the pattern.

The key distinction is they no longer say Google but say Internet.

The people are illegally spoofing the phone system to tell you they are calling from 405-293-8500.

The company doing this is "29Prime" (www.29prime.com). Their real phone number is 949-777-6616, and they are located in Orange County. When they call with their Robot, it says they are Google's 411 service calling to help you with your website. In reality they are selling fake SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services.

When they call, if you hang on and get attached to an attendant, they will try to sell you. Tell her you can't hear her and offer to call her back. Then she'll give you the company's real phone number to call her on (949-777-6616 or their toll free 888-416-0273). They have ads on Craigslist trying to hire phone operators to cheat people.

If you want to shut them down, report them to the FCC and they'll be fined $10,000 for each call they make ... since telemarketing call are against the law in the US.  Just go to
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm?id=d1e37
and file a complaint. It won't take you but 5 minutes, and it'll cost them $10,000.

Same here. Very annoying, unwanted robot-calls. Why would anyone respond to a computer? Suggest we all fill out the complaint form at the Do Not Call registry online. Power in numbers!

OK, first - I'm not defending them or any other SEO but you people are showing a lot of ignorance and "professional victimhood" here.
First, GOOD SEO costs money, just as good advertising costs money on TV or wherever. It's just that a lot more time/money is spent by most people online now,  compared to TV or other media. Paying a few hundred dollars is quite cheap if they get you ANY results (any of these firms)

Second, what is up with the ADHD troglodytes calling back in to automated dialers? News flash: they probably have their predictive dialer using 50 lines dialing out at once. Why don't you get a life instead of wringing your hands over who is calling you?  Go outside, toss a ball around.
I do agree however, that these types of dialer phone rooms need to adjust the dialers to get the dropped call rate down to acceptable levels and to not call so often. Hanging up does nothing to get them to stop calling you because at first, there is no them - just a computer. You need to tell them to put you on their own permanent DNC list after you have registered your numbers with the FTC for the do not call list. The cussing and threats just show you to be immature and petty. You can rest assured no one wants you as a customer once they get to know you. There is also a limited provision in the DNC for honest mistakes made in calling.

Third,  the "update your free Google listing" thing is/was accurate, but it does smack of trying to blow past you without you thinking too much about it. It is true that you can do your free listing in Google places or whatever it's called yourself, and it is also true that no new customer will see it. It is also true that the company can't call themselves Google, but if they don' t get around to saying their business name until halfway through the call, you don't have a case no matter how pissed you are. Talking fast and giving you a sales pitch are not illegal acts, so get over it. Or don't: no skin off my nose.

In short, it ain't a scam if their server routes voip through Kentucky, or if they ATTEMPT to do what they say they do and don't lie about their name. You being too neurotic to answer, or to handle seeing a phone number on your caller ID without freaking, doesn't make them a scam. I'm not saying they're not; I'm not saying they are. I'm saying you hotheads are too ignorant to tell.

Short story--- found out they are NOT from Google. They are scammers from RELIABLE PLACES in Irvine CA. False Advertising themselves... so BEWARE!

kentucky call - didn't answer but had received a call from missouri 3147202097 that was 'google listing' too just 1/2 hour before.
Now that they have passed a law that ALL telemarketers have to get your permission in writing to contact you (as of 2/16/2012), we'll see how many of these guys play by the rules.  I'm guessing none. Report them all!!
