Michigan automated collections systems (MARCS) is a third party collector by the name of G.C. Services L.P. They are based in Texas. They work under contract for the state of michigan (I have a copy of the contract). The work under commision and the contract states they must follow the Fair Dept Collection Practices Act. (FDCPA) Which they do not in any way shape or form. They also provided the software for and I believe are acting as the IRS. Try to find out who the IRS really is. See GAMMON v GC SERVICES LIMITED PARTNERSHIP, 27 F.3d 1254, 63 USLW 2017 (1994).

Got a call from this number, identifying an address where I lived in 1990 - 23 years ago!  yes it is Michigan Automated collections systems, a private, 3rd party parasite collections agency that contracts with the State of Michigan Department of Treasury.

REFUSE to do business with them. DEMAND they provide a copy of a contract naming yourself and Michigan automated collections systems (MARCS) as parties to the contract or to cease contacting you in any way, shape, form, or any one else, concerning their alleged claim.

Michigan Department of Treasury uses them instead of following the law.

Reporting to the "do not call" registry only works for solicitations, etc... Instead of looking for posts from other uninformed people you should probably check the treasury website.

Has anyone contacted the state Collections department directly? When I talked to these people today they said they would except a pre-dated check over the phone.... Sounds fishy...

I just reported it to the "Do Not Call" registry. If you have been on the do not call for 31 days or more, you can call in and report it.  Call 888-382-1222 and follow the prompts to report it. If they start getting enough complaints and fines, they will stop calling people. If you're not on the do not call site, call that number and register all your phones, home and cell numbers, then after 31 days you can start reporting these calls.

If you do get a call from these people its because you owe taxes, it not a scam, if they ask for someone else they have the wrong number, and you have to give the last four to verify that its you. and if you dont wanna pay your taxes then say goodbye to your check and bank.

I went to -  Michigan.gov -  Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and did a Business Entity Search.
I typed in the name in the search box and found that on the bottom of the information page for MICHIGAN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE COLLECTION AGENCY, the Status is-

AUTOMATIC DISSOLUTION- Date: 7-15-2007.

There was a message from 866-218-7224 asking for my husband by name.  When I called the number back I spoke with a "Mr. Webster".  I was told that he could only discuss it with my husband.  The company is supposedly Michigan Accounts Receivable Collections Systems.  Yet when I googled the number this came up.  I find it "coincidental" that the other day my husband took a call that asked for him by name and they asked him for his last 4 digits of his social security number....It makes me nervous, don't want to mess with our credit, but I believe it to be a scam any suggestions?

I do not appreciatge this company calling my home. With a very demanding-barley audible message.
Do not call my phone number asking for some fictious person or real person. I would say more but this will do.

We've had a couple of calls from this number asking for my husband to call back. They identify themselves as "State of Michigan" and ask for his SS number. He refused, and they refused to tell him what the call supposedly was about unless he'd give SS number. He hung up. It's got to be a scam.

This is a collection company for the State of Michigan. If you owe back taxes to the State of Michigan, this is the company that calls you.
