It is a call center that works for multiple companies. By entering the phone number they called you at it enables their system to determine why they were trying to reach you. In my case, it was American Family insurance. Knowing my agent as well as I do, I'd venture a guess that this is something the home office in Madison Wisconsin is up to. The CEO is David Anderson, perhaps they would like to hear our opinions on the non-solicited calls. Give them a call at 1-800-692-6326

I wrote Maytag Corporate office with this letter. Will let you know what message I receive.

I and several others on a Do Not Call list have been receiving calls from 866-278-0993. The telemarketer insists they represent Maytag. They call every half hour and are becoming a nuisance to many potential customers across the Nation.

We are reporting the number to the Corporate Office to let you know your potential customers are disturbed by this marketing practice and hope these individuals do not actually represent Maytag.

Please let me know, what actions you plan to take so I can report to others wanting this type of marketing to be stopped.

I followed the directions and called back. The message I got was Maytag Insurance. AT THE END OF THE MESSAGE I was given the option to press one and have my number taken off the call list.
Will update you all if I continue to get calls from the company.

The calls to my number are getting old.  I'm on the no call list.  If I find out whose calling I'm reporting them.

I have just gotten two calls, 30 minutes apart, from this number, and at least four calls total.  They never leave a message.  I don't know who it is because I never answer the phone if I don't recognize the number.  If more people did this, maybe these stupid calls would stop!

Caller ID says "TOLL FREE Call."  I refuse to answer unidentified callers.  Rings 3 or 4 times, then quits, which is an obvious robocall/telemarketer.  I'm on the Do Not Call list, but it's a national joke.  The only way to deal with these is to block the calls.  If you answer, it just encourages them and lets them know they have a valid number to keep calling or sell.  Reporting to the FCC accomplishes nothing, either.  The feds do nothing.

I received about 3 calls yesterday all from this number.  When you call it back it asks you to punch in your phone number.  Since I'm overly cautious, I didn't punch in my number, and it gives you no information unless the number matches.
Thank you for everyone who wrote in saying it's American Family. I was starting to think a Collector was hunting me down :)

Caller id showed this # and also showed words: toll-free.

Been seeing this on caller id box lately, all hang-ups.   Today I answered.  Fast-talking food-eating guy saying my

*************AMERICAN FAMILY ***************************************agent asked him to call.

Received several calls from this # over past few weeks. They showed up on caller ID box.

Who talks to  a call like this?  ID thieves make calls too.  Like I am going to confirm or deny this over the phone.  ID thieves can change the # that shows on your box to not be the # they are calling from.

I remember this from last year.  Basically a sales call. Same time each year.  Same deal-- you call the # the call came from and you are asked to enter the # the call came into.  If you enter another # it disconnects.  If you enter correct # it thanks you and hangs up-- no idea who it is either way.

Neighbor who is old gets very stressed out when she gets these calls.

With ID thieves out there, it seems to strange to talk to anyone who calls like this.

Whatever happened to the agent calling?  The company puts tremendous pressure on agents to inprove sales, get new clients.

Ever called about something imnportant?  You get an assistant!  Not always an agent.

When I inquired about this with my agent last year, I was treated poorly, like I was an idiot.

Caller ID: Toll free
Caller: AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE
Caller Type: Telemarketer

American family insurance.  Lady said my agent (she gave correct agent name) wished to sit down with me for half an hour to discuss my policies.  I laughed and said maybe my agent should call and that I hate telemarketing.  I then informed my agent of this b.s call and indicated I would be looking for quotes elsewhere.  When will companies learn that telemarketing does more harm then the pitence of sales that are generated?  Stupid!!!!!!

Called the #, entered my number (the # they called me at) , got a recording thanking me for calling and it disconnected.

I am on the no-call list.  Think it was their  way of getting around all of that.  Now they can say I called them, that we have established a relationship, now they can continue to call me.

FYI-- the "do-not-call list"-- the original list-- expires this month or next month-- June or July 2008.

No idea who it was tonight.

I like the American Family idea-- they do all sorts of weird marketing.

My least favorite of their marketing techniques is the birthday call from the agent or agent's assistant.  Very strange, way too personal, in bad taste.

Please spay or neuter your pet.  And get your next pet from a humane society or rescue group.  Say no to puppy mills and pet stores.

It is Maytag about selling an extended warranty. You have the option to be removed from the calling list by entering your 10-digit phone number and option 1.
