Why am I receiving several calls per day from this number?

I have been receiving several calls per day on my business line from (866) 279-7918.  Caller ID just says "Toll Free Call".  When I called today, a woman identified herself as working for Capital One and asked me if I had accounts there.  SHE THEN ASKED FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.  Banks never do this - They may ask for the last four digits of the social, but that is all.

THIS IS IN ALL LIKELYHOOD A FISHING SCAM WHERE THEY 'FISH' FOR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS AND OTHER PRIVATE INFORMATION.  

BE CAREFUL!!!

I want them to stop calling me and not leave a message. It starts in the morning and goes on and during the day.

This number calls my cell phone, sometimes several times a day.   I think they must have the wrong number.  It is very annoying, I would like them to quit calling me.  I have no account with them.

I'm sick of the answering the phone and no one is on the other end.  If I didn't have a caller ID, I would imagine someone was stalking me to see if I was home at different hours of the day.  We should all file a stalking complaint on Capital One's @ss.  Enough is enough.

We get calls non stop..We don't anwser as we have caller ID..These people need to get a life and stop calling.

I get a call from the number above, every couple of hours, every day. I have been in a bad financial bind, and they want to remind me of that. I can't squeeze blood out of a turnip. They need to stop.

they call our cell phone non stop - beginning early around 8 or 8:30 a.m. and many times throughout the days - non stop. They even call on week-ends and holidays.  we answered a couple of times, got a recording saying all rep's were busy on other phone calls and to wait..... (yeah right).  no idea what is going on and am very tired of it ~ it takes minutes from the cell phone and we are angry.....as well as registered with the Do Not Call Site.
we will never answer it again - do not trust it......something's fishy.  love to turn them in, but have no idea (YET) where to start...  we will find out.

I too am being called over and over.  This is number NOT Capital One.  I have spoke with their Fraud department, and they told me that the 1-866-279-7918 is NOT a registered number for Capital One.  Capital One DOES NOT call and harass as some have claimed on this posting.  DO NOT give out personal information to anyone that claims to be Capital One calling you.  Call Capital One's Fraud department at 800-955-7070.  At the prompt, fist say more (to get to the second menu) then say 'fraud' to get to their department.

They start everyday at 8:45 in the morning and continue all day long. I wish they would stop. What does make them stop? I know there is a computer that generates the call.

STOP!!, who is this calling what is it that you want, is this even monitored as  where ever I go?

Who and why is calling with this numbers from robot systems, Do they think someone really is going to answer this calls, are they SMART!!, How can you make them stop

I answered once but hung up at the sound of a recording. I have been on the do not call registry for years, and have updated.

They start calling at 8:01 am and don't quit til around 7 pm

I get calls from this number several times a day. I do have a loan with cap one, but it is up to date (not late). When I answer the phone, they hang up (even though they hear me say "hello" several times first. Any advice??? This is soosoo infuriating.

A foreign company still has to follow u.s. regulations to do business u.s.
Even if it is sourced to canada for the calling service, Capital one has to follow US laws.
And collection calls from 8 am to 9 pm is all right according government.

Capital One called 5 times today starting at 8:34 am.  I thought telemarketers and other solicitation companies were not permitted by law to start calling at 9:00am???  This has been going on for weeks now. Thanks Jane from Capital One.

It's CapitalOne. It's a legitimate call. Annoying, but legitimate.

These people constantly call me too! Perhaps they're not in the United States but some foreign country like Canada - then they don't have to follow our rules here in the U.S. If you get Privacy Manager they can't get through as easy.

then if this capitalone  is doing this they should have there licensen taken away. they are bullies and they wont stop. something needs to be done.I have no capitalone  loan.
I am contacting the attorney general , bbb and fcc. These people need to get heir facts right ,,,,,,,,,this is bull$%%^
they call  from 7 am to 9 pm. every 9 minutes

I get this call anywhere from 10 to 33 times a day!I have logged every call time. and hang up.
sometimes its is every 4 minutes. Changing the number isnt helping.
they wont leave a message on the answering machine. I feel threaten with my life!.
I have complained to the phone company and I  put a block on my phone.But they still get through!I am about to disonnect my phone completely. How can these people get away with this harrassment .?? nothing is being done

This number is actually for Capital One Loans.  I've had calls from this number before regarding a loan I have with them.
So, if you receive calls from this number and don't have an open account with them, you should check your credit report to verify that there aren't any open accounts with them.  You may want to be sure that you haven't fallen victim to identity theft.  It could also be a case where someone gave an incorrect or false phone number, which turned out to be yours.

I have been getting calls for a few weeks now and finally answered it and they seem to be a phishing scam?? beware !!
