Same thing happened to my company. This time they give you an impression that they are working with or for Google, to let your guard down. Than they verify my company address. As soon as I found out they are not Google, I told them I am not interested, and hung up the phone right away. 4 weeks later, I got an invoice from them. $300. I called back, and stating that I wont pay, and this rude lowlife said he got evidence, and if I don't pay, he will send a collection agency to go after me. I have file a police report with RCMP, and my local police station, and made complaints with econsumer.gov, FTC, and FCC. Not sure if any of these will work. I have also contacted medias such as CP24, City TV, Toronto Sun, Toronto Star, Le Journal de Montreal, and Montreal Gazette. They have all accepted my story and say may look into this to check the scale of the scam and whether its worthwhile to do a story on this. I sure hope they will.

I just received a phone call from them asking me to "renew" my listing with them.  They verified all the information and I said sure, do it exactly the same as last year.  Meanwhile, I knew 100% that we have never paid them for anything.  And while she was talking, I searched for my business on their website and it didn't even come up...so I gave her a hard time about that and she then said it must have already expired.  Then when she told me an invoice would be mailed to me for the renewal, I told her I would never give them a penny and that I should send her an invoice for wasting my time on the phone.  Then I hung up on her.
I found this thread afterwards and am happy to hear I wasn't an a$$ for nothing.

We had exactly the same situation. I have told them repeatedly to remove our ad, which they will not do. These guys are nothing but scum and count on people just rolling over and paying. Call them and tell them, fax them repeatedly, notify the Quebec Better Business Bureau. They are a member and if they get enough complaints they will be black listed. If everyone here follows up on that we can save some people time, effort and money. We will not pay, and nor should anyone else fooled by these jerks.

Actually, you are wrong. This must have been posted by phonepages because they are continuing to use the same BS tactics and are as much of a scam now in 2012 as they were in 2008. They lead you on thinking you are renewing without telling you that the ad was a free one. The ads really suck too. Paying $350+ for it is a rip off to begin with, let alone how they manipulate you.

Anyone who has received a call from PhonePages FIGHT BACK.  I just read the posting above and agree with everything.  This happened to us exactly as stated above and we haven't paid them either.  They should be charged somehow but if enough people pass the word around maybe they will be stopped.      PAST IT ON.

Beware of PhonePages.  They are a shady company.  They record your conversation verifying your information of your company then they send you a bill for an advertisement that they say you wanted. They continually send invoices by fax with interest and threaten that if you do not pay the invoice that they will put the ad on again next year if you do not pay them.  They will not cancel even though I called as soon as I received the bill as I didn't know what it was for.  They want a cancellation fee to cancel.  Again I didn't ask to have an ad on their site.  I don't advertise on the internet, but now apparently I do even though I didn't ask to.  Very persistent.  But I am also I refuse to pay them anything.                                                   Posted February 15, 2012

We have been targeted by phonepages.ca for over a year.  They called and made it sound like we were renewing our contract.  She was hard to understand and she just wanted to verify our company name and address which we said was correct.  By doing this so called verification she recorded us and then we received an invoice for 295.00 for the ad that we did not ask for and didn't know anything about.  I called and asked what the invoice was for and a very rude man said we asked for it and he played back the recording verifying our company information.  I told him we were not paying for it and he informed me that there was a cancellation fee.  We have not paid the invoice but now they are sending us a fax stating that we are now going to be charged for two years even though I sent them by fax a cancellation notice last year.  They ignored this as we did not pay the cancellation fee to go with the notice.  They are unbeliveable.  So the morale of the sorry is, we can't trust anyone who calls us or hardly talk to them, what a sad world we live in that we can't even do business on the phone anymore or just verify our companys information.  We have heard from other companies also that this has happened to!!!!!

This is from phonepages.ca, and they are most definitely a scam. They are currently harrassing us, and I have filed a report with Phonebusters.  There is no obligation to pay, and they have no legal hold.  If you get taken in by them, immediately report to the RCMP/Phonebusters.

These people have been harrassing us for weeks over an ad we didn't place. I talked with Carol Baker who got real ugly and has been on my case. Now I just call them and get stupid with her. Seems to have worked, but now they are going after an employee for the total cost of the ad. If you check the Internet you will find all kind of info about these scammers. I am just going to continue to harrass her until this goes away. She hangs up a lot but thank God for speed dialing. More people must stand up to these crooks and make it difficult for them. Call Carol or fax 866-245-1303, or just pick someone and jam up their lines. They have nothing else to do but attack us. Lets make it difficult for them.

I was also targeted by this scam! They got me at a busy time. Convinced me somehow that I am "renewing my ad". And got me to agree to be added to their site. They then got their "confirmation department"(or whatever they called it), to contact me and confirm my subscription to their website. Both conversations were recorded, but they only told me they were recording the second conversation and therefor "by law" can only play for me the second conversation! How convenient to them, play only the conversation of me confirming the order, and not the conversation were they scammed me! They charged me $195 for 1 year of service, which I guess is not a bad deal if I wanted this service, and if I cancel they will charge me a $150 cancellation fee! When calling them, they guy on the phone was very rude and would not help me at all. I have submitted a complaint to the BBB, with no response... I promptly canceled this service, asked them to remove me from their website and told them I will not pay any cancellation fee as it had only been a week since I signed up, have received absolutely NO business from their website and they scammed me. Approximately 2 weeks later I received a fax stating my current unpaid balance with interest. I checked, and they have still not removed me from their website. I responded again asking them to cancel my service, reverse my charges, and stop contacting me. I refuse to pay them, not because I can't afford to pay them, but because I believe I don't owe them a penny.

I can confirm that Phone Pages is owned by super-scammer Michael Kron. This man has received many awards for business development, sits on important boards, and has his fingers in a lot of on line pies. From my research a couple of the most recent are an on line gospel singer promotion company and an on line heart health company (?). My business, a not-for-profit charity, paid these people over $3,000 before I caught on to their scheme. I am only a year in the position where I am and they said the former director set the contract up. This is a lie. I have been in touch with Phone Busters as well. I ignore their invoices and have alerted all of the staff and Board here to be on guard for these bills. Do not pay these bills, do not let them harass you, let them know that you know their game...post notes like this as widely as possible!

I bought an ad recently and found the service was decent.
The company launched a new website and apparently Michael Kron
sold his interests and is no longer part of the company. I am willing to give them a chance since they tell a different story than appears above.
