We get voicemails from the all the time saying someone has an account with them that they need to discuss. I refuse to respond because they never say who in the house its for or what sort of account it is.

I have the same complaint with Marie....having an Asian accent which I could barely understand and American name.  I know I have a bill with Columbia House but the irritated thing about it when he said that I've been making payments through my credit card and checks which I never did...it was always Money Order... it just kinda make you wonder...now after reading all your complaints I think I'm going to pay them anything...Thanks for the info... the guy that called me was Mel John and the phone # is 518-694-5465 from Nigara Falls NY.

Yeah these guys are obviously trying to scam us, I am going to report these people to Columbia House.

has anyone not paid and then had a collection appear on their credit report(s)?

my story is the same as all of the above but i don't want a collection to appear over $67.  i don't want to give in either and perpetuate this problem.

I just had about the same experience as "Jeff" above. I told the guy that I have an account right now that has no outstanding balance. He insisted it is for an old account & I need to just pay the small amount of $102 to avoid being reported to collection & ruin my credit. I asked for proof & he said the only proof he could give me was for me to check my credit report after we got off the phone. Why would it be on my credit report already if he was just going to report it if I wouldn't pay him today? Then he kept insisting that I give him a post-dated check or pay by credit card. I told him I would not just hand out payment information over the phone to someone I don't recognize w/out solid proof in my hands. Then he said I could give him a post-dated check & AFTER I did that, then he could send me a bill. ??? When I said no, he asked for my email address so he could send a copy of my bill to my email. NO WAY! Then he threatened that he would be reporting me to the credit bureau & I said , "GOOD MAKE SURE YOU REPORT THAT YOU WON'T GIVE ME PROOF THAT I OWE THIS MONEY & I AM NEVER GOING TO BLINDLY PAY SOMEONE OVER THE PHONE!" and hung up on him.

I never answer these calls except that this number called me twice in 2 hours & I just wanted to know what the deal was.

This group keeps calling and asking for my daughter who moved out five years ago and has had a different phone number than mine for many more years before that.
I finally go the guy to admit he got the name from a call list. I have their name and he claims they are from Niagra Falls. I told them if they call me one more time I will report them. Yes, foreign accent with American Names  something Smith LOL...
yes, gave me the number 866-330-0651 as the call back.

Just got a call from this group.  They said I owed something from 2004.  $75 dollars...not a lot of money...it's a scam.  ZThey need payment now or go to collections.  They can't tell you anything...no account numbers, no mechandise names.  DON'T GIVE THEM YOU INFO.

Received two calls from TGC stating that they needed additional information regarding a "claim" I filed with them ASAP. I did return their call and it was evident TGC is a scam. When I questioned them in detail re: my "Claim" the TGC employee equivocated and said they called the wrong phone number and disconnected the call..

6-16-2008 12:27pm CDT.....my phone was off so the call went straight to voicemail and sometimes verizon does not list the incoming number when the call goes straight to voicemail.......voice message states...(taken word for word from the message----I saved it so I could replay it)...."your claim that has been placed in our office here at tgc your prompt return phone call is needed as soon as possible to resolve the matter return the call at 866-330-0651 please have the phone number you received this message at ready".

Wanting to settle up on a Columbia House debt which I do not have. They gave me a telephone number and account number to confirm account with C.H. but it was a recording and was unable to speak with a physical person. TGC will not send proof of debt in lieu of C.H. Wanted them to send physical proof of claim and they became angry and demanded payment. They were informed that payment would not be made over phone by a company I am not familiar with. They became angry again and demanded payment threatening credit reporting. After informing them that they would need to send me a bill or something in writing I hung up the phone. They continue to call me monthly and I ignore their contact attempts. Looking on line they are considered to be a fraudulent company (SCAMMERS) and other should ignore their calls as well and not give payment information to anyone without physical proof of what you are paying and a written statement to make payment from. Good day....

I have received three phone calls the last three days on my answering machine about a claim they said I filed.  I think the company was "TGC".  I waited almost 20 minutes and thenhung up. Thank goodness I went on line to check who they were.  I will just delete the message the next time they call.  What a pain these people are.

They tell me the same thing. It is a recording stating it is about a claim I filed and I need to contact them asap. They have called so many times. I do not answer the phone on 'Unknown' numbers.

Just registered a complaint against them at DoNotCall.gov     Maybe if enough people complain they will stop.   They tell me I need to contact them about a "Claim" which I know nothing about.

i just received a call from Takhar Collection Agency saying i owed a $77 past due from Columbia House. this i know was BS because i already paid this bill years ago. i asked for the account # and he said he couldn't disclose that info because it was sent to them from another agency called CAG (collection agency group??) which he again couldn't disclose their reference account # either. by the way he spoke with a mid-eastern accent and his name was Walter. the contact i was given is #866-330-0651.
