I think it is some type of spam/scam. They call my company several times a day and hang up when I answer.

When I answer the phone they hang up. I have heard that they get "paid" by how many people answer the phone. Nothing has to be said on either end, just a connection made. Very annoying, and they should be stopped. It is hard to be put on the "Do Not Call List" when they immediately hang up.

I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to figure this out. It is a calling card number issued by Nobel, Inc. Nobel told me there is no way to tell who is using the number so they cannot do anything about it. AT&T (my provider) says they cannot block any 800 or 866 numbers. This has been going on at my business for nearly a year, several times a day. Frustrating!

I am getting between 10 & 20 call a day from att, they are driving me crazy.)*HV$@!@$%^# Most of time no one is there. They tried to up grade mt dsl, I have a contract, wasen't interested. My bill wnt up 85.00 a month.
They would not take it off the bill. It took me two day of being on the phone for several hours to every get to someone who finally cancelled it. They would not take the amont off of the bill, but gave a "credit", that would show up somewhere down the way. Have been put on the att do not call list 2 times, it seems to make the # of calls I recevied doubled.
New # to call 866-620-6000 x12473 Rhonda. After talking to several other "people" was transfered to Rhonda. She said they [att] have a new program, just started a month ago. It can get your # off all att's calll list in 24/48 hours. Told her I was timing her, if it dident work I would be calling her back.
So everybody call Rhonda and se if it does anygood.

Directly from the ATT.com website FAQ regarding not wanting solicitations:
"The Annoyance Call Bureau does not investigate telemarketing, collection, or other types of electronically generated calls. These calls are not illegal and there are products and services available to assist customers in managing these types of unwanted or annoying phone calls."
See...there are PRODUCTS AND SERVICES!!! YOU HAVE TO PAY THE B*****DS TO MAKE THEM QUIT (TEMPORARILY)!!!
The last one that called and actually stayed on the line, I informed him they pissed me off at home and work so much that I removed my home service from them and now my CABLE company is my provider for 1/3 the price and 400% more service! Eat that!
check out this crap:
"Frequent or Chronic Calls (10 calls per day and persisting over 2 or 3 weeks)"
...it's not annoying to have 2-3 calls per day over weeks and months?!?!

Also from the AT&T website (pop up window w/ no URL):
"
Managing Telemarketing Calls
You may choose to stay on the line and wait for a representative from the telemarketing company to come on the line. When a live person comes on the line, you can decide if you are interested in the offer. If you are not interested and do not want future calls from that business, you can ask the representative to remove you from their calling lists. Since there may be multiple businesses contacting you, you may need to be removed from numerous calling lists before noticing a decrease in the number of telemarketing calls received.
You may choose to manage these calls using AT&T products. Under the Annoyance Call Products tab detail descriptions are provided for Caller ID, Privacy Manager/Privacy Director, Voice Mail, and Priority Ringing which will help you manage unwanted telemarketing calls.
You may choose to have your name added to the National Do Not Call Registry to reduce the number of telemarketing calls you receive from national companies by calling 1-888-382-1222 or via the Internet at www.donotcall.gov. Certain calls are exempt from the National Do Not Call List. For example; political organizations, charities, telephone surveyors or companies with which you have an existing business relationship can legally call you even if you have registered on the National Do Not Call List. For more information contact the FTC at www.ftc.gov."
Seems the only way to get them to stop is to discontinue using them as your provider...see above where it says "companies with which you have an existing business relationship can legally call you even if you have registered on the National Do Not Call List."
Great.
