I have received calls from this number twice. Both times I checked my account online first - no problems. Then I called the number on the website and was told Citibank has not called you, your account is fine. They told me this number being left on my Voice Mail is NOT affiliated with Citibank in any way. I have received a legitimate call from Citibank, when they suspected a fraudulent transaction on my card  in the past, and it was NOT this number. Do not get scammed by calling this number, Citibank says it is NOT them!

I called the (real) Citibank to check for any fraud activity (they ARE based in Kentucky), there was NO fraud activity and I asked them to check the 800 # ( 866-444-4986) and they did NOT recognize it. This may have been a legitimate # at one time but does not appear to be so now. (January, 2012)

We are winter residents in Florida. Upon arrival we had nearly 90! collection calls. Whoever had this number does not have it any more.

got a call from Citicard trying to collect on my wife's account. Asked me for a debit card number or a bank account number.

Just got a call from this number - a well-spoken woman for my wife in regards to a citibank card . Asked when she would be available and left this number as a call back. Would not give me any more details about the reason for the call due to "laws in your state". I called my wife, she checked our account actvity online, and confirmed (by calling number on back of our card) that there were no outstanding issues, either wrt fraud or payments. Others online have similar experiences.

Appears to be a very smooth scam.

hello, i used to work for this company it indeed is citi they  call in regards to past due over credit limit and partial pays for all credit cards, ready credit or citiflex lines. my bf got a call and i knew the number looked familiar lol. anyway they can only discuss the reason w/ the client or spouse if only spouse has permission documented in notes by state laws and must infoem spouse of not legally liable for debt. if in doubt they can verify any info on your act to you. hated making these calls i felt horrible glad no longer working there.

They said I have a Balance Due???

Got a call from an unknown number. Left a voicemail (it was a recording) saying they were from Citibank and I needed to call back regarding my account. I got an email the same day that looked very legitimately like it was from citibank, but all the links were from info.citibank.com Totally a scam.

I received a recorded call asking me to call back at the 866-444-4986 number. This is a legitimate CitiCard number and is their debt collections department.

This is a legit call from www.citicards.com  They were calling to alert me of possible fraud activity on my card.  When in doubt - call the customer service number on the back of your credit card or check your account online.  Always be certain you know who you are talking with before providing any personal info!
