3 - tell them they should have it already if this is legit.

They should be able to send you one of those little green certified cards in the mail - don't always respond to them though unless attourney o k's it

D. Scott Carruthers is a fading star.  His office uses unconscionable and illegal tactics to collect from a few poor victims then moves onto another state.  In response to the "few bad apple" quote in the previous comments, D. Scott Carruthers IS one of the BAD APPLES.  He has several pending lawsuits as a defendant (meaning he's the one being sued) in several US states.  Tactics his offices uses:  Calling and telling complainants that they will be sued, hauled off to jail, arrested, f****d up...? found somewhere in an alley, that they are second class citizens, and acts of violence are threatened.  Want advice?  If D. Scott Carruthers calls you, contact a local attorney immediately.

You are pathetic. Is it just you browsing these threads or do you have cronies helping to post 'good reviews'? DSC IS a 'legit' law firm. However, you do NOT follow FDCPA regulations and it is because you purchase largely uncollectable debts from companies for pennies on the dollar. You do not have the necessary documentation to back up you unsubstantiated claims. You violate 4 regulations every time you send that letter out. It is because you count on the population to be uneducated about your practice and their rights. You try to strongarm people into mailing you money without checking into things first and some of the debts are actually absolved. You are nothing more than thugs that profit from others hardship. Not everyone simply skips out because they just dont want to pay. Some of these people have families to feed that come first. Some of the these people were lied to about fees and overdraft protection by sharky little band jerks. So get off your little pedestal and own up to being the criminals you are.

Funny how all the people who recieve our letters and then post on these sites state its a scam but never give out there name or file number, please put them on these sites so we can sue the account and then you can come back and let everyone know, nope they're legit!

THIS IS A SCAM.  They will go as far as to send snail mail as well. The postages is NOT a First Class stamp.  They use a bulk mail stamp that reads "USA 44" to give the impression it is a 44 cent First Class stamp, but it is not.  

The letter I received was printed on so called attorney letter head (Scott Carruthers) stating that they were a collection agency named "Regent" and that I had a Bank Of America account in default.  

This is a total SCAM!

We recieved many a phone calls from these people and then a letter.  The account they were harrassing us about has been in bankruptcy 4 years ago.  This is the 2nd time they have done this to my husband and I in 3 years.  If they call or write again, my lawyer will bring a lawsuit against them for harrasment.  This was with orchard bank household.

My girlfriend had recieved a letter in the mail from D Scott Carruthers.  They had this number on it as well.  When she called to try and make payment plans by sending in money orders, they told her she they can only accept payments via a credit card or checking account that is in her name.  On top of that, this is the first letter she has gotten from them.

Not legit. I have been a bankruptcy practitioner for over 16 years. This company fails to follow FDCPA requirements and are more evasive than helpful.Complaints should be directed to your state's attorney general-consumer division. Besides providing single-minded, and often rude, people a paycheck, they serve little good.

I TOO AM RECEIVING CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER.  WE HAVE IMPECCABLE CREDIT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN IN COLLECTIONS. THE MAN WHO CALLED ME WAS A MR. SILLA OR CILLA.  HIS DIRECT NUMBER WAS 866-645-9544.  HE TOO HAD THE CORRECT LAST 4 DIGITS OF MY HUSBANDS SS#. I ASKED FOR THE ENTIRE NUMBER AND IT WAS INCORRECT.  I TOLD HIM THESE ACCOUNTS ARE NOT OURS.  HE GAVE ME A PHONE NUMBER FOR THE FRAUD UNIT TO THE BANK, ACCOUNT NUMBERS, BALANCES AND DATES THESE SO-CALLED ACCOUNTS WERE OPENED AND CHARGED OFF. HE STATED THAT GARNISHMENT WAS THE NEXT STEP. I TOLD HIM HE HAD THE WRONG PEOPLE.  HE OFFERED TO HELP IN ANY WAY HE COULD.  WHAT A SCAM.  I WENT TO THE BANK IN QUESTION AND THEY TOLD ME THIS IS A SCAM. THE PHONE NUMBER HE GAVE FOR THE FRAUD UNIT IS ALSO A SCAM, PROBABLY CONNECTED TO THEM TO GET MORE INFORMATION.  I HOPE SOMEONE NAILS THESE SOB'S TO THE WALL.

I now have the Police taking over my calls and all 866 numbers are closely watched and who registers them, so man up you frauds.

It is a courtesy call to help those who may or may not be aware that they have a claim against them. I am glad I answered their phone call. It is a serious matter, since I am the one at fault and racked up or overlooked my debt. They let me know the consequences and were very professional and assisted me in rectifying my situation. They could have taken me to court w/ out contacting me. Because of it, I was able to avoid appearing in court and save me from the embarrassment of having a subpoena served to my home or work place. Also, now I can buy my dream home without worrying about a judgment or garnishment against my SSN. Thank Mr. #$%@^&*! for the settlement and notifying me of the consequences of my ir-responsibilities of the past. I received a receipt from them after paying off my debt, SO THEIR ARE LEGIT! Everyone else: MAN UP & take care of your s**t. They are just trying to help!
