Got the same thing as others. Does not sound professional and I am set up on auto-payment. Either it is a mistake coupled with a poor call, or it is a scam. Be careful! 866-697-4623 does not appear to have a public listing and I can't find it on their web site http://www.amwater.com . I even did a 'search this site' and could not find the number.

I just got a voice message from 8666974623 that call America Water ASAP. My bill is set to auto payment monthly so I don't know why they called me. It happened once before but I didn't call back. That was end of it.

Call outside the allowed time. Called at 6 am today and when I answered it they said "oops sorry not supposed to call now." and hung up. My bill is not late in fact I am still working off a credit of 2000 that I was over charged because of their radio system.

This is American Water's payment reminder system. They'll call and leave a really loud, annoying message, when your account is over due by 1 week (or more).

American Water Company recording.
Recording says most urgent that you contact them immediately blah blah blah. They auto call up to 6 times a day so you will get the message never to be late again or if they have the wrong number - tough.
After you pay the bill it takes 5 business days to be removed from the auto caller list. It is NOT illegal for them to harrass you since they are in-house. They may call from 9AM EDT to 9PM PDT, so 6AM - midnight depending on where you live.
So pay up you dead beats; because right or wrong, you are wrong. If you dispute the bill thats easy, they will just turn off the water until the dispute is resolved.

Received call on voicemail at 8:15 a.m. (note, a.m.) requesting that a call be made to American Water at 1-866-697-4623 about "your account." Interesting thing is that I live in a condominium and the water bill for all units is paid in lump by the management company. Further, a dunning phone call for an account made at 8:15 a.m. is against FCC guidelines and rules. What is this about?
