Prank Call
That guy with the India accent called me with the same thing. Said I had been hacked. This scum bum needs to be caught and arrested. Said he worked for tech support for A. Credit Services. Missed what the A stood for. The number he used was 400-002. This has apparently gone on for years, and noone in any phone company or computer company has flagged this number or tracked down this bum? If its skype, shouldn't there be a way to track this cyber harrasser?

I got one of those phone calls.  I pretended to type on my computer but what I was really doing was having a laufgh at the gy's expense and said that a picture of a naked woman kept popping up and crashing it.  When I got bored I said "I need to tal to someone face to face about this" and hung up.  The guy was so dense he didn't even know I was playing a joke on him!  LOL1

This s*** just happened to my mom when I wasn't home. I could've told her it was fake but I wasn't there. I am currently looking for as much info on these guys as possible, to try and take them down. Anything you can share would be much appreciated, since clearly the cops aren't doing anything.

guy with an indian accent said I was having problems with my computer. which I actually was because our telephone provider was having difficulty in our area... for a moment I thought it was our telephone provider phoning me to help me out. he was getting rude and really pushy, getting me to turn on my computer and asking for information off my computer. finally I told him I was running a mac. he didn't want to have anything to do with me. glad that was it, sounds like the same thing that happened to matt in the other post listed above.

Plus, you can't phone him back. Just goes to show you, no matter what is going on and how probable it seems someone is actually trying to help you out on the other end, never, ever, ever give out personal info over the phone!

this number tried calling me four times, finally I talked to him.  Dude with an Indian accent.  He said he knew my Windows ID number, got me to look at a few things, and said there was errors on my computer.  He then wanted to connect with my computer.  That's where I got uncomfortable and hung up.

Claimed to be from Microsoft and wanted to remote connect to my wifes computer because it was sending out a virus.
She told them to go away, but they would not hang up the phone

Reports indicate that if you give them access, they will install sniffer software to access your passwords and banking information.

A guy with an Indian accent claimed to be calling from "Windows" about the "problems" on my fiancee's computer. She told him the computer has been offline for about 2 weeks (which is true) and he seemed flustered but continued to insist there were errors and that she has been downloading spyware and malware. She asked where he got the information and he said the "unique ID on your computer sent it to Windows." She said she wasn't interested in talking to him about these so-called problems and hung up

About a month ago I was contacted (10:00pm saturday night) by a person claiming to be with a company called TECHNOGENNIE.COM. claiming to be working on behalf of my internet service provider; and his company is getting messages that my computer is sending error reports. I asked this person to tell me who my service provider is when he would not tell me because that information is private I politely hung up the phone. a couple weeks ago I was contacted by a phone number with a 510 area code (California). The person on the other end claimed to be with a company called TECH-OPTIMIZERS.COM who are investigating problems with Windows operating systems. Currently they are getting error messages from computers in Newfoundland area. This sounded a lot like the previous caller so I knew this had to be a scam. I decided to have some fun and play with this person. The person asked me what type of Windows Operating system I have and where to find it on my computer. I told him I have windows 98 operating system and that my computer is 12 years old (complete false I figure they are not honest with me so why should I be honest with them). He instructed me to go to the "RUN" option on my computer and type in "EVENTVWR". The event viewer is a program used to look at log entries for software security. He then asked me to click on "Applications" and let him know of how many errors come up. I told him that about 75-80% of the +26,000 files were errors. He then was very amazed and said my computer is lucky it has not crashed. I thanked him for making me a where of this problem because I have a lot of personal information on my computer that I don't want to lose. He then told me to hold he will put me onto his manager who will instruct me on how to fix this problem. The "manager" came on the phone and he explained to me that I would have to download a file that will fix my error problems all I have to do is go to www.logmein123. com . I told him I am on a dial-up connection and that I cannot be on the phone and internet at the same time. He asked for a cell number so he can call me; I told him There is no cell service in my area. He then told me to go to that website and follow the instructions and download the file. I hung up and called the BBB and the RCMP.This type of scam is going around and what it is is a person(s) claim to be apart of a lagitimate information technology company that is on the internet and they use that companies contact information if you inquire about them. They get you to download this software that will collect all your banking information and credit card numbers and relay it to them. Today i was called once again but by a 1-400-002-1631 phone number, the person asked for mr.xxxx (the last name of the person who is in the phone book), then hung up when i said maybe... who is this. Fraud scams are common now and the Phonebusters National Fraud Center (PNCC) is where we would refer you.The PNCC is a national anti-fraud call centre jointly managed by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It can be reached by telephone at1-888-495-8501 (toll free from anywhere in North America) or through the Phonebusters web site: http://www.phonebusters.com. The PNCC collects criminal information on mass-marketing fraud, which includes telemarketing fraud, identity fraud complaints and advance fee fraud letters, e.g. West African. The PNCC analytical unit uses reported data to assist police and partner agencies in ongoing mass-marketing fraud cases.

Just got the same call (East Indian scammer). He said he was from Microsoft and that I have malware programs in my computer and my computer is on the verge of crashing. After reading these posts, I realize that he was not from Microsoft at all. This is just another lying sleezebag and don't fall for his crap. Don't worry, I am already in the process of reporting the number.

Looking at the frequency of complaints here, it appears he has been quite active in doing this lately. Surely he trolls these messages on damage control. DO NOT TRUST ANY POSTS THAT CLAIM THIS NUMBER IS LEGITIMATE!!!!

I just got this call,  first he asked for my mom, I said she wasn't in and to leave a message, then he says well I assume you are a family member, I'm like yeah, and then he goes and tells me to turn on my computer. I have 5 computers, and I kept asking which computer, and he wouldn't give a response. Then I asked what company he was with, and he also wouldn't give an answer, so I told him we're with telus and if we have any issues I'll give them a call, and hung up. Also an East Indian caller.

Hello D,
If your mother has not turned her computer on since the "infection" you might be able to do a restore to a previous date before all this took place ... this is if she has downloaded anything that would have changed the registries. Did she download anything?

Spoke to an agent and her supervisor who claimed to work for windows and know what has been downloaded into my computer but will not give me specific information on what has been downloaded yet they do not know my IP address; and when I asked reduntent questions they seemed to have an answer that corresponds to the problem I have on my computer.  They called twice with different company names.

Hi..  she gave them access to her computer...  She said they showed her things on there that were not supoose to be there and then tried to get her to pay money to fix it and keep it up to date for her for 3 years...  Then once she hung up on them, she shut down the computer and have not turned it on since and realized it was probably a scam... Do you think they made a copy of the hard drive or just installed something on it or just trying to get her to pay...  I told her to get it wiped clean at a computer shop...  Thanks for the info... Really appreciate it...  D

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
