I was in an accident about 6 months ago when I rear-ended someone, who stopped for literally no reason, going about 5 mph. I caused about $300 worth of damage to my car that i repaired myself: hood, right front fender, core support, headlight, and front cap. The driver of the vehicle I struck TOLD ME AND THE POLICE OFFICER that all I hit was the hitch and her husband crawls outta the car and starts throwing hands in the air making a big deal about it, and long story short, I got a ticket, went to court, and got everything paid off. Now I didn't have insurance at the time of the accident, also another reason i went to court, but I was unaware of this until the cops came knocking on my door to serve me a citation for driving without insurance. Another hefty fine. Now i have AFNI jumping on my back for $2965.99. FOR A TOW HITCH! Something seems off.

Just got a call from this number. They are AFNI Insurance company. Stated they are a subrogation department. They were looking for somebody else that wasn't me. So I just told them that they had the wrong number and they hung up.

They have been calling my number for about 4 months now (2-3 times /week)  In fact, so many times that I have entered their number in my phone index.  Now when they call I pickup and press * 3 times they hang up.

I was hoping this maneuver would stop the calls but alas they continue.  I've never been in an accident and they have no idea who I am... I intend on keeping it that way.  If I had a newer phone I would simply block the number OR if I get tired of this game I will have my number changed.

Cheers

This is the subrogation department of Afni Insurance Services. They call on behalf of insurance companies regarding a loss of one type or another where someone filed a claim and named you as the person responsible. The subrogation dept is the dept that investigates and decides who is at fault - if they are calling you, it's bc they have decided you are at fault.

I know all of this only because I have been dealing with these people for several weeks now - in my instance, they are calling on behalf of American Family Ins bc some guy who got into an argument with me outside my home (in the street - he was blocking my driveway) claims I threw rocks at and damaged his car and they now want almost $1700 from me bc they decided I was at fault - without ever speaking to me about it. I blocked their other number from calling me (866-231-7847) so I guess they are using this number now.

I received a voicemail from this number regarding "an attempt to collect a debt".  I work in the credit report industry and am very on top of any invoices, bills, etc that I get so was surprised to get this call.  I returned the call and was informed that USAA Insurance had placed a claim in the amount of $1300 regarding an accident dated 10/20.  I have NEVER been in an accident.  He insisted that I was involved in an accident in Gilbert, AZ (about 45 minutes from my house).  I NEVER go out to Gilbert and informed the rep.  He stated that my insurance card and Driver's License # were on file linked to the accident.  I requested that he provide my Driver's License #.  After a stutter, he started providing some random number that was nowhere close to my #.  He stopped trying to insist after that and said he'd inform the authorities.  BEWARE, THIS IS A SCAM!  DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.  KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, ACCORDING TO FDCPA IF YOU DO HAVE A LEGITIMATE DEBT, THE COLLECTOR MUST SEND A WRITTEN NOTICE OF THE AMOUNT OF THE DEBT, THE INFORMATION (NAME OF CREDITOR, ETC), RIGHT TO DISPUTE DEBT, SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS TO VERIFY THE DEBT, ETC.  VISIT FTC.GOV FOR MORE INFORMATION.

I work at a carpet cleaning company and this same number has been calling one of our technicains work cell phone. He said the automated message is hard to understand but that they are referencing our Company name and some fake policy number, #613227.  The message said to call them back at 866-697-7849 about the accident. There have been no accidents. This is NOT our insurancce company and this IS A SCAM. Do not call. I don't know what they are after but our insurace company verified that this number and policy information has nothing to do with us.

They call I answer then it is a message asking me to please continue to hold my call will be answered shortly.  Today I held and no answer it jsut said your call has ended good bye.  Maybe I will just rack up their bill by repeatedly calling their number... they do get charged everytime someone calls their 866 number.  Then I called it back and it was some ACME (I think) company....
