This company is a scam! They are trying to collect a debt that doesn't exist.  I called the bank they were supposedly working for and they knew nothing about it.  If they call back I'm contacting the sheriff and filing harassment charges.

Spoke with a "Richard Nelson" with an Indian accent, at this phone number, which is Bay Area Credit Service. After asking him what company he was calling in regards to he say First Premier Bank. I told Richard I was going to call First Premier Bank to find out what I had with them and why it was in collections, he started getting pushy, arrogant and just RUDE. That's when I knew they were not to be trusted. After reading the post from Philip - 25 Jun 2008, I am glad I didn't give any of my information. I hung up.

I have been getting these calls the last few days constantly night & day.  Today they called 8 times in a row as I kept pressing ignore.  I am so over these phone calls and will not leave a message what so ever.  I have had one credit card that at soon as i use it the following month I pay it off .  I am just so annoyed at this.  I am also on the do not call list and my number is only about a year old.

we received several calls from 866-773-9877 for a person (a relative) who has NEVER lived with us nor used/owned (that we know of) our phone number.  The automated message did specify this persons correct name, and mentioned the name of the calling company Bay Area Credit Services.  the message further stated the call was personal business (code for a collection agency) and confidential and if we listened to the entire message we were confirming we were this person.  the person speaking was either a very good automated voice or this person spoke perfect American English.  This confirms they are (somewhere) some kind of collection agency.  we have had NO contact with said relative in many years nor given them permission to use our phone number.

This is actually the first time BACS has called (all calls of unknow origin go to the answering machine) asking for a specific person.  Most calls before this were either an just automated messages (starting in the middle of the automated message)  stating we must contact BACS for important peraonal business (again a code phrase for a desperate collection agency) or it was just a hang up

As WE ourselves have no real outstanding debt, we figured this must be some sort of scam from the very start of these calls about 8 months ago (they just started calling out of the blue).

and yes it is possible that the specific person mentioned in the message does indeed have outstanding debts, it has nothing to do with us. But I will have to say this as with others they are persistent little buggers.

Reply to James - 14 Mar 2009:  "One of the the GREAT THINGS about 800 #'s of all sorts (866-888 and so on) is that SOMEONE pays for them.  So EACH TIME you call that number, there is a charge that is registered to a company / corporate account, and these charges end up on a telephone bill kinda that same as you and I get at the end of the month or quarter.  That means that SOMEONE is having to pay for them."
Seems you are not very smart about phone bills and 800 #'s, as a matter of fact companies get these numbers for a monthly fee, it costs them the same every month for this number regardless as to how mayn calls they make from that number or how many calls they get to that number, so there is no big bill they will get for recieving 1000's of calls, they do not care who calls them nor how often it makes no difference.

Receiving multiple calls from this company as well. After two weeks, called them back and they couldn't even find my number in their system.  Filed a complaint against them with the BBB.  If they have to response to enough complaints it won't be worth their time to harass people.

Whenever possible, I google unknown #'s on my cell.  Once I confirm that the unknown # is a probable scammer, I save the # on my phone under the name "Bu***hit" .  Sadly, the list of "Bu***hit" #'s almost outnumbers the actual people in my phonebook.

People, surely you know that when you dial an 800/866/877/888 number, the number you are calling from is captured even if you have caller ID blocking. It's called ANI.

You would be a complete idiot to call such a number except from a distant pay phone... And don't give any info when you call. This goes double if you get a mailpiece asking you to call the number.

Now can you imagine if everyone who got one of these calls, posted this number someone where hundreds or even THOUSANDS of people would call it.

I bet that would make a large bill for that telemarketer company and MAYBE they would get the hint that it is not cost effective to call people and harass them when they don't even have the right number.

Just something to think about.

Just in case has anyone gotten a a call from this number
<b> 800-862-4187.</b>  It states that it is a collection agency operated by Jamie Roberts of Bay Area Collections.

These stupid people have called me 6 times in past 2 days. They've left messages twice now with something about calling back. I finally did call them back 5 minutes ago and the stupid Indian guy was asking me about some names I've never heard before. I had to get through the conversation quickly since I have a prepaid phone. He said he'd take me off the list and I really hope it worked. These stupid people are annoying as crap.

I get multiple calls from this company.

Any number I see on my csller ID I do not recognize, I briefly push the answer button and leave on for 5-10 seconds and hang up.

This has slowed the quantity of calls.

This company which is now HOV Financial Services with offices in Denver and Atlanta. They're also related to Lason, Inc in Southfield MI. and HOV Services in Troy MI.

The majority of their calls are from their India call center.

To stop them do the following:
Send a certified letter to the attorney generals of the state of California, Colorado, Georgia and Michigan and your home state AG. Also send copies of this
letter which details all the times that they've called you by date and time (it's on your cell phone records) or call your phone provider and ask for a log of all calls made to your number.

Send copies of this to all the Better Business Bureaus for all these states (google to find them).

Contact the office of the District Attorney in San Jose, 408-299-7400 and request their involvement.

Send copies of your letters to your senators, and perhaps the local media for an idea of a story for our recessionary times.

Send copies of your letters to the FTC in Washington.

File complaints with donotcall.gov  every time they call.

That should keep them busy. I'm thinking that suing them in your local court under harassment charges might also be another way to stop them. In many cases, they are violating all the Fair Debt Laws.

THERE IS A WAY TO BLOCK THESE CALLS (ALMOST)  All cellphones allow you to assign a ringtone to a specific number.  This way your spouse or kids can have their own ringtones so you can tell its them when they call.  If you save the incoming number, name it "telemarketer" or "DON'T ANSWER" and assign it a ringtone of "silent" the calls will come in, but they won't bother you during a meeting, dinner or television show.  Even if you are on the line, if they calls comes in it will be identified as "telemarketer" or "DON'T ANSWER" and you will know not to click over to it.

I even created a category in my cellphone phonebook called "telemarketers" so my real phonebook is not cluttered up with these jerks.  The only thing you have to be careful of is picking up the phone to call someone and accidently answering an incoming telemarketer call because it didn't ring.

This is a great way to manage this problem without losing your mind (which is what they want you to do.)
