I too received a call from 866-799-1702 and didn't answer.  They left no message.  I don't have any Verison products and my home and cell phones are on the do-not-call list to stop unsolitited phone calls.  I'm thinking that the above conclusion is true....it's a scam.  Hate that!

Thanks to all those who commented about the annoying calls from 866-799-1702 and especially from kae.  I have just started receiving the calls on a daily basis and did not recognize the number and therefore did not answer.  Now, I will not even look when the phone rings.  This advertising ploy will eventually sour me against Verizon.

verizon customer service rep calling about phone services and i have asked them to stop calling and they continue and they use other personal/business lines so i'm now getting calls from IL and NC and they never leave a message but it's always them when i answer...uggh

I answered the phone, said hello several times. After a short bit there was a click and then the phone beeped indicating the caller had hung up. I hate when pricks call and don't bother to say anything.

I've gotten this call several times, but don't answer.  Googled it today and found this forum.  From what I've read, I believe it is a scam.  What I don't understand is all the people on here calling the number back and believing that just because the recording says they're Verizon, it actually IS Verizon.  And then you give them information about yourself?  You are way too gullable.

I recieve a call from this number very often. I have asked them not to call, and to take me off the list. They said they would... 4 times now in the last 3 months. HELP

I got a call from this number, said I sent or recieved over 1650 texts so far this month, and am over my limit of 1500. So i agreed to upgrade to 5000 texts for $5.00 more. But I said to myself I'd check it when I get home on the computer. Sure enough. She was lying. I only sent/recieved about 451 other that VZW texts. She also upgraded my wifes phone to 5000 texts and she's only texted 178 times so far this month. That's $20 more a month I would of paid, but I just got on line and switched back to where I had it originally. Thank you Kae, I will be "no-ring"ing this number.

It is annoying to be on the do not call list and get these calls. The worst part is finding out that it is your own carrier. In other words I am paying for this kind of aggravation.

This number called me tonight, but I didn't pick up or try any reverse number calls; today is the first time I've seen it. No message was left, and I didn't attempt any return call after googling the number and finding all these posts about it. I have ATT landline and DSL, but do have Verizon Wireless cell, and was eligible in May 08 for upgrade, but haven't. I know I'm not over my minutes, ever. Am also on do not call list for both home and cell numbers. They can call me all they want, I won't pick up. I don't need any new scams in my life, thankyou. Glad I googled the number and found all this.

I just started getting the calls today...this is terrible :( I've been a customer for 5 years and have never had this happen before.

It is Verizon. They called me to tell me I was almost over usage for the month. I was, and had increased my minutes the day before. I told the associate I had done so, he asked if I needed anything else, and it was fine.

I believe in these hard times Verizon is just using these oppportunities to upsell if they can, that's all.

I recently signed up for Vonage and am in between the transfer process from my local MediaCom cable phone service. It was only Yesturday that the hookup was made. This current 1 day old virtual temporary number was called. And it has NOTHING to do with Verizon. Once they get your last Social Security 4 digits, Yikes! They've got you. You might as well invite them over for dinner.

Just got a call today but didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number. My story is the sad same one that everyone else has. This is the first time, I believe, that they have contacted me. Still, they are saved in my phone as "Verizon Scam". What a shame that I have to waste a slot on them in my contact list. BLARG!

Received a call yesterday from 866-799-1702 and did not answer. I did
answer the same call today and no one spoke when I answered. I called
them back, got a recorded message for some Verizon BS sales, and
selected "1" to be removed from their call lists and also included
an angrily worded message that I am on the do not call list. They
only got my cell number because I have a wireless DSL contract
with them - they do not provide any other form of communication for
me. This is yet another example of their terrible "customer service."
It took me months to get my DSL account set up right initially (i.e.,
there were numerous billing errors). You get a different answer
every time that you talk to them! We'll see how long these nuisance
calls continue.

The number comes up every few months. I do not normally answer numbers when I do not know who is calling. Its just a little aggravating.

It was a Verizon representative...I didnt have a bunch of problems like you all are saying.  I received a call from the number yesterday, i was at work so I didn't answer, then they just called me now.  The lady just said she's calling because I am eligible for an upgrade and said she can see I have the LG enV and asked if I saw the new ones, i told her i'm waiting for the Blackberry Storm to come out to upgrade to that. She asked if she could interest me in an upgrade in minutes for free because of the holidays, i declined, and that was it.  I'm pretty sure it's legit since she knew i was due for an upgrade and knew my phone.  She didn't ask any information, just said "is this Megan, and your last four digits of your verizon number is so and so"
There's no need to be rude to them, I'm sure if u just answer it and talk to them they'll stop calling.

Count me in the club...numerous calls from this number.
What I did is turn off my answering machine when I'm home, and I just let the morons rip away.
I'm on the do not call list as well, and have been for quite a while now.

like the others, i received the call from this number and no one spoke. i redialed the number and discovered it was a verizon sales call with "fabulous" offers. i left my number and asked to be removed from their system. i won't hold my breath!

This number called my cell phone yesterday. As I didn't recognize the number, I didn't pick up. However, my phone only half-rang. It was like they dialed, then hung up right away.

I spoke to Verizon and this is not a call from them. This is a scam. Do not give your info and when they call you should call verizon and report it.

String them along for as long as you can, then say you're not interested.

Waste THEIR time.  They won't call back.
