I got a call from this number as a toll free number.  The person said they were from Bank of America and had to confirm the last four digits of my Social Securtiy Number and my birthdate in order to confirm my identiy and discuss reason for call.  I said " I have nothing to confirm who you are so tell me where my account was openned".  The answer was that I could go to a Bank of America branch to discuss what the reason for the call was.  So I did.  There was no message from Bank of America.  THIS is a phishing scam to get information.  Don't give out any personal information.  Shame on these low lifes.

I have been getting calls also for the last month or so; not from 866-901-9856, but from 206-832-1394, identified as "Seatle WA" on my caller id.  They leave pre-recorded messages asking for someone whom we do not know, along with the option of "if we have reached a wrong number, press __".  I've used that option countless times without success, so today I tried something different.  I was able to finally get a different phone number to call them back at... you guessed it, 866-901-9856, AFTER verifying first that that number truly *is* connected with B of A.  Got a real person on the line and simply asked her to look up a phone number for me, explaining my situation.  She instantly repeated MY phone number back to me, and asked if I had any association with "other person's name".  I told her no, and she very nicely apologized for the inconvenience and said she would correct the situation.  Very professional and courteous.  Now, we shall see.

These people have been calling me for over a month now, at first just once every couple of days but now twice a day every day. If you actually manage to get a human on the line the first thing they ask for is your account number or social security number which no actual bank employee would do. I have talked to them three times now and informed them that they have the wrong number yet the calls persist.

I also called Bank of America Customer service and explained my problem and gave them the phone numbers I was being asked to call, they said they would look into it and call back. They did call back two days later and informed me that whoever these people are they are not part of Bank of America and warned me not to give them any personal information. (duh?)

I just spoke to them again about fifteen minutes ago since they are still calling even after being informed on the 15th and the 19th of this month that they have the wrong number. I told the Rep. I spoke to that I was aware that this was a scam and that B.O.A. had disowned them but she stuck to the script and still claimed to be a B.O.A. employee. This is a scam folks pure and simple do not give these people anything, not even your full legal name.

LISTEN EVERYONE! While you are all here wanting to report this number to AUTHORITIES!!!!!!!!  You are SOOO WRONG!  This department is a special department which is still a Customer Service Department, but specifically deals with overdrawn account.  HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS! If you call Customer Service and ask them to help you have fees removed, normally the WON'T! Unless it was a "bank error!" THIS DEPARTMENT WILL!  You call them, ask for help with the fees, then they tell you to bring  your account to a positive balance within the time they give you, usually a couple weeks, then you call them back, and they will place whatever credit they promised you on the account!  THIS IS NOT A FRAUD! IF you think that, sorry for you because you may have turned down REAL $ HELP If your account is overdrawn! I have had to do this on several occasions.  But if you don't believe me, go ahead, call customer service, tell them you have a CALIFORNIA ACCOUNT, and want the number to the overdraft department, and this is the number they will give you.  I can't believe no one here knew that! Unbelievable.  You are very welcome for the updated CORRECT information! I got my fees reversed, but keep paying $35.00 a pop if YOU want to.

I, too can verify that this is 100% LEGITIMATE... NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE! I even spoke with the general customer assistance at BoA and they verified the telephone number for me! Call and ask them for yourself! Apparently this is some sort of "internal" department that handles SPECIFICALLY overdraft problems. It's called the Overdraft Customer Assistance Department. Here's my story:

I got the call from this number (866-901-9856) two weeks ago after my account was overdrawn for several weeks. They promised to refund two overdraft fees (totaling $70) once I got my account into a positive balance. So, I figured it was good enough incentive to get my act together and make my balance positive again. They said all I had to do was call them back once I made the final "positive" deposit. They claimed to be the BoA Overdraft Customer Assistance Dept... which, admittedly, sounds kinda fishy but I can 100% guarantee this is NOT FRAUD or a scam of any sort. I made my final "positive" deposit today and called the number back as instructed and they proceeded to ask for my social security #, date of birth, and address... again, this seemed VERY fishy but I figured since I already confirmed their identity through BoA's main customer assistance department, then I had nothing to worry about. So, long story short, I immediately received the $70 deposited into my account as they promised me. Even though the whole procedure is very hap-hazard and fishy on BoA's behalf... it's clearly just some sort of "incentive" procedure from BoA to get your account balance positive again. After all, if you don't have money in the bank, neither do they!

Hope this helps some people who are doubtful... I certainly was at first.

Calm down... This is Bank of America collections. This is not a scam, they are skip-tracing for one of thier customers. They are only asking for your name and address to confirm you are not the deadbeat that owes them money. I asked them to remove my number from thier database. No problem.

So why do they keep calling a business number for over a year that is clearly identified as such and has never heard of the named individual they are looking for?

I just called Bank of America and spoke to "Candice."  She said that she canNOT make a 3-way call and is surprised that someone is claiming BofA did that. She also said she cannot verify whether or not this is a legitimate # becuase BofA has hundreds of "outbound" numbers that they use. I suggested they post on their website whether or not this is a legitimate #. She said they will "make a note of it."  Not too helpful.

I received a call...several at which I refuse to return. The number that shows up on my cell is an unknown number. They leave a message with a number to contact. This is unlike Bank of America as they have yet to actually call me for any overdrafts or other reasons and when they do, their name and number shows up on my phone. This is definitely a scam. Bank of America would not call you to tell you that you have an overdraft as they want to you keep using your card and make more overdrafts. That's how they make their money. Furthermore, if for any reason they see fraudulent activity they freeze your account immediately without a phone call. So you end up having to contact them verifying your account info, etc. They asked if you did in fact make the purchases that they thought were fraudulent. etc. etc. If Bank of America really needed to get your attention, they would freeze your account.  So these people calling and wanting information is not them. Also, they call about overdrafts to people who do not have overdrafts. Definitely Fraudulent. If BOA doesn't call you to let you know that they have frozen your account...why would they call to tell you you have an overdraft fee or for any other reason?

Also, be careful about the people replying on here saying that it is not a fraud. It could in fact be the unknown company.

Yes, this is a legitimate Bank of America number. They were calling me repeatedly, despite the fact that I a) have never signed up for Bank of America b) have no ties to Bank of America c) have no debt. I just switched numbers when I bought a BlackBerry, so they still had the number as a "landline", despite it being a CELLULAR ONLY number.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and they dissociated my number with the deadbeat.

Calls from a "private" number, unlike any reputable business, and gives another number to call (with calling hours up to midnight, what bank has workers at midnight and on Saturday!)  Calls almost every day.  Says "Bank of America" with an "offer" and "not a marketing call".

I just received three calls in a row from (866) 901-9856... I returned the call and Lee answered the phone. He said he was B of A and he needed my number and social security number to verify my account. I hung up and called my local B of A rep. I gave her the number and she called and Lee answered the phone. She asked him for his CAI number (a security number EVERY B of A employee gets at hire). He didn't have it available. She recommended that this was a fraud company.

I had them put my account on fraud watch. I then returned the call back to this number and messed around with them for a little while (devil in me likes to play) lol. I then asked him for his name again and which location. He said he was calling from Phoenix, AZ. I then asked for his employee number. he said they don't have them. I said, "Every Bank of America employee gets a CAI number at time of hire and that I know he was a fraudulent company trying to access my account." I told him that if he calls me again I will be reporting him and the phone number he was calling from as a fraud company. He said, "Thank you. have a nice day."

Please share this information with everyone to help stop fraud!!!!!

this is B of A caling it is not a scam. they call when your account has been overdraft for more than about a week or so. I received a call because apparently my ex had a joint account with my name on it  that had been overdraft for about 2 months! they called to set up a payment plan so the money owed could be paid. I told them this account was opened without my knowledge & gave them his contact info. they told me to go in to the branch to report it & provide ID. I did & they cleared everything up on my end.

This company called my cell number and I asked who where they and I was told the company was BofAmerica. They asked for the number they called me on. I told them I have no account with you all so why did you call my cell. Rep stated it could possibly have been a number a customer may have had at one time. What was strange to me was he answered the phone by saying "Hello", not Good afternoon this is Bank of America and how may I assist you...He requested my number I told him I don't think so and hung up.

When I get home from work, this # has been on my caller ID a lot, so I decided to call it.  They gave me the name of who they were calling for, and of course, I recognized it.  Although I've had my number for over 10 years, the person who had it before must still be using it and boy, she must have some really bad credit and overdue accounts if they are still calling for her using my number.  They said they'd remove it.

Have been receiving calls from (seemingly) Bank of America, but hey, whose bank calls and leaves them a message without any content except "call this number"? I haven't received any written letter from the bank and this is how they usually communicate with customers. So don't fall for this. It is obviously a scam.

Ah ... good old B of A / I was hit with identity theft twice within the last few months. The first time the thief charged items via my debit card. The second time they had access to my brand new checking account number. Now, looks like their may be a third time, if in fact, this number is a hoax.  Can someone please tell me why the hell the banks these days are not more secure?  Rumor has it that B of A sent in claims in 2006 totaling upwards of $83 million dollars.  That's a whole lot of fraud.  Please tell me something is being done about this.  Otherwise we may all soon be witnessing the end of a icon: the Bank!!!!
