The same in here. The person was polite the first minute until I wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam as he was insistently  asking my banking information and rushing me. Good to know they are legit at least.

Except it's not the creditor they signed a loan or line of credit for. These sharks buy these debts for next to nothing. If I could I'd pay my original creditor, but I won't pay a shark to profit from my hardships.

Don't feed the fish, they'll keep wanting more!

First, let's get something straight. Your company buys debts for pennies on the dollar. You make a business of most often people's hardships. You make deals to "forgive" some of the debt, telling them you'll settle for x%, yet this still gives you a comfortable profit. I myself have debt and if it was still with the actual creditor I was with I would discuss paying it back. Instead it has been sold off to some debt collector and frankly I don't feel as if I owe that debt collector a dime.
Btw, never ever acknowledge a debt over the phone (it's like for play for them since it hooks you in and can restart the clock for statue of limitations,) nor try and make deals with them without getting something very clearly in writing. Take our checkbooks out lmao. Why, so you can make a deal with us, then lie and send a bill for the remainder amount denying the deal?
And always keep all communications documented! Saved me in court when your company tried to sue me for a default. It stated I never responded to a summons (which my state allows you to send one before actually filing.) You waited an entire year before filing, maybe you hoped I lost my proof of responding? Either way I submitted my proof, appeared and it was thrown out.
Frankly, if you have debts in collections, can't easily pay them all off within a few years, I'd look into bankruptcy (happily filing this month!) Why pay someone to profit from debts they bought for next to nothing from the true creditor you owed?

This group of collectors are evil. They will buy copies of a bankruptcy and call the people , demanding you give them the money. One called me a few years ago demanding I  paythem the balanceI  on a providian  Master Card. I have never had a card from providian.

Called on Sunday afternoon. My phone number does not belong and never has to the person being sought. Would only say her name was Lisa and asked me to get the sought after person to call her.

I didn't think they were supposed to call on Sundays. My phone number has never done business with them. I should not have been called just hunting someone else.

I understand that PRA is a legitimate and reputable company. What you are missing... the fact that there are dozens of people using your company's name to extort money from honest people, who pay their bills and don't deserve to be scammed out of their money that they work hard to earn. I would think, being a reputable company, they would try to stop these vultures! I have been called all kinds of things by these people, been scammed out of thousands of dollars,(which I now still have to pay to the legitimate company) ,they have threatened to attach my wages,my bank account,as well as threatening members of my family with the same! I understand you have a job to do,but please understand, these scammers are the ones who make your job a nightmare! It is because of them people are so angry and skeptical. When your people call, identify themselves properly, state who they represent and why they are calling, most honest, hard working people will deal with them in a respectful manner. As long as you are willing to provide written verification of the debt! If you call me,and are willing to provide conformation of the debt, people would be more willing to deal with you.

So, if I borrow 1,000 from you 10 years ago, I shouldn't have to pay it back?  What does it have to do with owing it or not owing it?  If you borrowed the money, you should be paying it back.  Why do people think that they can take money and not  pay it back?  You have no morality.

First, you are completely incorrect.  Just because your debt is out of stat, which by the way, the laws for being out of stat are different in many states, doesn't mean that you cannot be called to pay your debts.  Saying you are not RESPONSIBLE for debt that you signed for, took advantage of, and decided you wanted is highly irresponible.  If you don't want to take care of your debt, that says a lot about you as a person.
Do you have any idea what these debt collectors have to go through every single day?  Do you think that the collectors are bad?  You should hear the debtors.  All they ever have are excuses as to why they can't pay their debt.  You would be amazed at the amount of people who say all they get is disability yet when questioned, it turns out they took the loan out when all they got had was disability.  So, their income didn't change, they just decided if they could get credit, they would abuse it and not pay for it.  We all know that SOMEONE has to make up for lost money.. Guess who that is?  Those people who actually pay their bills.  So, you should be rooting these collectors to get the money, not against them and again, you are absolutely RESPONSIBLE for the debt you create, circumstances or not.  If you think out of stat means you get away with it, think again.  You might want to look up a 1099.

When they call, I request to record the conversation.  This puts them off for a few months.  They buy debt from other companies without verifying if hte debt is legitimate or not.  They've been harassing me for money I don't owe for years.  I simply tell them that I won't say anything, even my name, without recording the converstion.  They usually just hang up.

They call to collect on money that you NO LONGER OWE.  By law, once a debt reaches a certain age, IT CANNOT BE COLLECTED. Unless, of course, you allow them to sweet talk you into putting "even just $1" towards it.  If you do that, you, once again, owe the full amount.  That's why they ask for a miniscule amount!

Don't let them sweet talk you into putting anything towards money that you did not borrow from them and, by law, you NO LONGER OWE.  Even if you put 1 penny towards the amount they ask, you're agreeing to take on the debt.

When they call, all you have to do is REQUEST TO RECORD THE CALL USING YOUR COMPUTER OR VOICE RECORDER.  If you do this, they will immediately hang up.  They are not properly trained to collect debts without intentionally and unintentionally violating all kinds of consumer protection laws so they will not agree to be recorded.

This establishment is actually reputable.  They are attemting to collect debts.  I had one account in collections to which I knew I owed and spoke with Chad about it.  He got me a settlement and was extremely polite and helpful.
