Noticed a additional charge for 8.00 on my credit card account, which I only used at Hotels.com. I called Hotels.com and explained that I had an additional charge on my credit card. They mentioned that there was a Fee to use Hotels.com, and I explained that the fee came out already, and was charged an additional 8.00 besides. They said they would escalate the matter to a supervisor, and someone would get back to me shortly. A little while later I recieved a call from Stacy at Online Reservation at 1-386-597-2984(someone answered live!), and said that on the Hotels.com website, there is spot that says they can charge a fee. I expalined that yes, there is a fee from Hotels.com, that I paid, and there is no other fees listed on my reservation notice, and no other fees on the web site. She apologized and said that they "need to talk to Hotels.com" to explain the fees better to customers. She said they would refund the 8.00 additional charge. I think that this is poor service from a major company! Hotels.com should not be giving my private credit card information out to third parties without their consent. Will not use Hotels.com again.(PS And the room we got through Hotels.com was horrible, and the hotel clerk tried to rip us off too!!)

I called American Express and they called the number that was listed on my statement and did a 3 way call. I found out that this was a real charge. I guess when you click on the "I agree to the terms and conditions" button on Expedia's web site, it says in there that there is a $8.00 reservation fee due at time of booking. I explained to Online Reservation Specialists that I was not aware that this was listed there. They were very understanding and credited it back to my card and reminded me to read the terms and conditions in the future. They also explained to me that the hotels that are listed on these big travel web sites almost all use services like theirs and that they do not get to chose where this information is listed, this is Expedia's choice. Wording like "We will not charge your card is true, Expedia only charges a small percentage of the credit cards. The majority of us are charged by the hotel itself. So in them putting that on their website they mean that literally. They should say "Expedia will not charge your credit card at the time of booking, but the hotel will" I went back to Expedia's website and re read the terms and conditions and it said:

Hotel policies:
Avoid unexpected charges by reviewing these policies carefully.

Deposit:
1 NIGHT DEPOSIT PLUS 8USD NONREFUNDABLE RESERVATION FEE DUE AT TIME OF BOOKING

Cancellation:
CXL 24HRS OR LESS CHARGE 1 NIGHTS STAY PLUS TAX AND 8.5USD NONREFUNDABLE FEE

Clicking that agree button is considered an electronic signature and is the same as signing your name. From now on I will be sure to read these.

Fax Machine
Booked a room through expedia which states that credit card would not be charged, and was for booking only.
My hotel ended up being overbooked, so I did not even stay there. Got the 8 dollar charge on my credit card later. Contacted the hotel and expedia which both stated they do not charge any booking fee. The hotel contracts this florida company to find customers, and pays a fee for each customer that books into the hotel online. This company is commiting fraud because they turn around and charge the person who booked as well. Only get a fax machine when calling this number. I will cancel my card if card company does not take action and refund my money.

If you book hotels/motels through Orbitz, check the bottom of your statements carefully.  I called the Capital One fraud department and I found it this was a legit charge.  It's at the very bottom (last line) of your confirmation email.  Capital One put me through to the Online Reservation Specialists and the agent told me she usually has to deal with this 18 times a day.  Check the bottom of your accommodation booking.  I booked my motel about a week before they charged me the 8 dollars.

At the VERY BOTTOM of my Orbitz motel confirmation statement it reads:

Hotel policies:
Avoid unexpected charges by reviewing these policies carefully.

Cancellation:
CXL BY 9AM 24HRS OR LESS CHARGE 1 NIGHTS STAY PLUS TAX AND 8USD NONREFUNDABLE FEE

Deposit:
0.0% 1 NIGHT DEPOSIT PLUS 8USD RESERVATION FEE DUE AT TIME OF BOOKI
