Received numerous calls from this number over a period time today 5/1/12 being the latest.  No message was left.  Very annoying and harassing.  Going to notify authorities if I get one more call.  Am on Do Not Call registry.  Comes up unavailable on caller id.

Received junk mail today. It reads, "There is no obligation to purchase or join anything. This promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with Android, but they are a major supplier of the software. Terms and conditions apply. This offer is being used in conjunction with a VACATION promotion. Call for details."

They are offering me a "Touchpad Table Computer with new Android Software".

They want me to call 1-800-610-0571

How did these people get my name and address? I know it's probably not difficult but I have no association with them. After reading that all they want you to do is buy a timeshare, I promptly threw it in the trash. At least I have the satisfaction knowing that they wasted postage sending me this letter.

Looks like they are sending out several variants of this letter nationwide. I hate spammers.

Here's the latest activity by the people at "Presort First Class U.S. Postage Paid Tampa, FL Permit #78". They are now sending out mailers to congratulate us on being chosen by their promotinal department to receive a brand new 7 inch Touchpad Tablet computer with Android Software. And we can get $100 in dining discounts if we call within 72 hours. There is no company name or return address on the mailer. The toll free phone number for us to call is 1-855-694-9275 Monday through Sunday from 9am to 9pm -- it doesn't tell if it's EST or what. Be sure to use offer code 3518. And we are supposed to be comforted that it is not a timeshare. I am on the do not call list so I guess this is a way to try to get me to call them...

I got the HAPPY Birthday Greeting letter with a fake ticket from Southwest Airlines. On the back of the ticket it said "Travel Provider Global Travel, 8500 Leesburg Pike, Suite 306, Vienna, VA 22182. Certain restrictions may apply" and then an asterisk with the statement "This promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with S0outhwest. They are major supplier". The phone number to call is 1-800-831-6994" The body of the letter stated "To help you celebrate your birthday next month we would like to give you 2 complimentary tickets ".etc and a bonous of a 3 day 2 night Hotel stay. I called the number and made an appointment and then decided to do some online research and discoverd what my wife suspected all along. She noted right away that they did not say they would give the tickets but "wouod like to give". I wonder what Southwest sas about this useof their name and a fake ticket to lure its customers?

Oh, to add to my last post. On the card it has a $25 dinner on it too, but not a $30 dinner and $150 gas card like Somar's post above. I guess the promotion is cutting corners on their offer now.

I just this card today in the mail telling me i will get two free airline tickets from Southwest and Delta. I wonder if the airlines sold this information to this company. Cause these are the only airlines i have flown in the last eight years. I think i will call them Monday and screw around with them like Crankyakers on Comedy Central.

The United Travel Network just called claiming that I have won 1 of 4 prizes because I sent something in through Toshiba last December.  As a result of a drawing, I am supposedly 1 of 50 winners of their 4 big prizes:  32" Toshiba flat screen color TV; $2500 cash; 3 days and 2 nights in Cancun or Orlando; or a new Lincoln Navigator.  The caller was trying to make sure that I understood that I did not have to pay anything, sign anything or do anything to win.  I just had to sign up for my appointment at the Northbrook, IL office and to present my confidential code #.  Then I would receive a scratch-off card that would reveal my prize.  The call-back number they are using this time is 718-534-4829.

When I asked why the caller ID said that the call to me from a local exchange was an international call, I received some strange story about it being a computer call.  For a very midwestern name that the supervisor provided to me, he had a very distinctive Indian accent, as did the initial caller. It was very amusing to hear him try to give me directions to a location that is nearby and very familiar to me.

I am trying to get through to the Northbrook office number to see what they say for themselves.

I got a call a couple of years ago from a similar company selling a "Vacation Club" here in Ft. Lauderdale, FL....for $2500 - $6500 up front we were supposedly going to be able to get wholesale prices when we booked travel.  Had to sign up that night (ie. no thinking about it or researching it), or they said the deal was off....

Needless to say, we passed on their "vacation club deal".  Later I found out that most people who try to book "wholesale" travel through them, find that there are no flights available, no hotels available, etc. for the dates of desired travel.  Of course "upgraded" travel is always available.   Only those who are completely flexible and don't care where they go, might benefit, but I wouldn't count on it.

To get us to come to the sales pitch, they offered 2 nights in an Orlando Hotel, 2 one day passes to Disney, 2 dinners at a restaurant and $50 gas vouchers.

Needless to say, it wasn't easy but we managed to get everything out of them.

To deter us they did the following:

1) to get the "free" vacation, we had to send them $50.00 to get the "application" for reservations.  The $50.00 would be refunded once travel was "complete".

2) Once we got the "application" we learned that we had to pick three different "possible dates" (they would choose which date) that were during the week, not within 7 days of a holiday and not within 30 days of each other.  We were near the autumn, so the last restriction makes it hard right as July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving block out 2 weeks each (7 days before/after).  Also, schools made weekdays difficult.

After picking the dates, and sending in the "application" we had to wait for them to respond with the desired date. They stressed "don't book any transportation until the dates are confirmed"

3) The gas voucher ended up requiring me to send in 5 gas receipts, each for a $10 rebate check.  Each gas receipt had to be sent 30 days after the previous.  All receipts had to be sent within a year.  The checks they sent looked like junkmail, so you need to be alert and not toss them.

Being local in Florida, we were pretty flexible as long as we could work out the schools.  We sent in the application in May with dates in July, September and October.  Didn't hear back from them, and after July 4th I called them to find out what the story was.  While on the phone, they did end up booking the travel for the October date, and they allowed me to "upgrade" to a weekend for a mere $83.00 (never thought I'd ever see that $50 again....)

It took another phone call to get them to send the travel documents...in the end we got everything advertised, but as they say, persistence pays.

Did have a little trouble with the Gas Vouchers as they started denying me after the third one, but a complaint to the BBB resolved it and they sent me a final $20 check because it probably would have cost them more than $20 to fight.

In the end, I would say I got about $300 in freebies out of them, but you need to be persistent and like this sort of challenge.

I just got card from (866)930-3999...sounds like this one is a real scam, so I am passing on their great opportunity.

I got the Happy Birthday card with the phone number 966-960-1929. It's offering trips to a resort property in the US or a Mexican vacation. There's a dubious part where it says *Delta Southwest American Airlines Hyatt Marriott. It's just floating there in all caps with no other information except the star at the bottom saying "not sponsors or affiliates of the program, but major suppliers." I guess since it's not affiliated, it sounds like false advertising.

I don't like that they somehow got my birthday either. I'm on the Opt-out list too. There's no company info on the card, just a bulk mail stamp that says Tampa, FL permit #78.

Gosh, how do I get off this stuff. I protect my info. I rarely share my birthday with anyone.

Got the card Saturday (today's Tueday)... If I wanted to be duped into believing I's won something, I should have called within 48 hours of receiving it so as to get their (quote) ""WEEKDAY SPECIAL" of a complimentary 3-day/2-night getaway to any of the participating Marriott or Wyndham properties located in the continental US!!!!".  But no, I've learned the hard way about this sort of thing.  Now, I always 1) READ BETWEEN THE LIE-n's, and 2) websearch for reports such as these to confirm my (so far always correct) suspicions that there is no win in the package for ME.

LIE-n's often are disguised by misleading wording, designed to make you think you are a winner of a big-ticket item.  In this case, a scrupulous look reveals no one "you've one" or "free"; plus the presorted preprinted postage indicates regular mass mailings of the "offer", which is all it is!

i also got this faux-travel confirmation in the mail.  my husband and i dutifully googled the number to see what came up, but found in the end that calling them was the fastest method to find out what this is.  It seems that it's a travel company that mails these flyers out to the area residents when there is a new branch office opening, as it is cheaper than spending money on advertisements.  It it sent to the married, 28-70 age group, 65K household and above folks in the area, as they are the ones most likely to use their services for traveling.  there is a 45 minute brief on the company's offerings and light refreshments followed by 45 minutes of question and answer sessions.  they have friday, saturday, and sunday times available for the shpiel.
afterward, the flight and bonus hotel stay are valid for 12 months, but there are black out dates and are required to pay all federal/government taxes on the airfare.  sounds similar to being bombarded by time-share reps in Las Vegas hotels with a promise of a free hotel stay when you view a seminar.

My second set of requests are in the mail.
I looked back at the original letter from VIP and the requirement for the requested booking was that they must received the request with 45 days advance notice for the first choice and 30 days for the second choice.  This second form requires 60 days for the first choice and 45 days for the second choice.  Let's see what happens on this round.

If you go back through the first 2 pages of these comments you will find my two privious contributions.
Since the last entry I have receive a phone call from a person identified as "Kim" phone number 386-252-2332 at 11:44 A.M. June 20th 2008.  Since I was not home she left a message to call her back.  I called back at 1:50 P.M. the same day.  After going though the 6 choices and getting a person to answer on choice number 6 I asked for Kim and after a short hold Kim came on the line.  She told me my choice of airports was inappropriate as Reno was not a major airport.  I suggested Denver as an alternative and she said she would check with her supervisor and call me back.  So far she has not called back but today June 25th I received a letter from:
VIP Travel Reservations, Inc.
4606 S Clyde Morris Blvd St 1P
Port Orange, Fl 32129

From the letter:
"We cannot process your second date request due to availability within our allotment.  We will need for you to send us new requested date choices.  You will be contacted aroximately 30 to 45 days prior to that travel date with an offer.  Please be advised that this letter is according to VIP's availability withing our allotment and has nothing to do with the overall availability of the airlines.  Please keep in mind that we can not check your dates over the phone.
We will reserve your Airfare for you.  You are NOT allowed to make your own reservations.  VIP Travel must make the reservations for your travel.
Your reservations will not be confirmed, until we have spoken with you and gone over the details of this certificate.
VIP Travel Reservations requires 45 day advance notice before booking your Air travel.  This certificate expires 12 months, (one year) from your activation date.  All travel must be completed within the allotted time.  Please read and follow all terms and conditions.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely
VIP Travel Reservations, Inc.

Sign here if you wish to cancel and receive your deposit back.

The letter was not signed by a VIP representative.

The second VACATION GETAWAY travel request form requires at least 60 days advance notice prior to the first new requested date and at least 45 days after the 1st choice for the second choice.

So far I am still following the terms and conditions of the first request to the letter.  There were no new terms and conditions attached to this second rejection letter and request for new dates other than above.

As I stated before.  I have the time to play this out to its conclusion.

I don't believe I gave the address of the Vacation Invitation that started this all so here it is:
Event Planners
15029 N. Thompson Peak
Suite B 111-496
Scottsdale, AZ  85260

The card sent to me said:
Hello...and Pack your Bags!  IN CELEBRATION OF OUR ANNIVERARY, you were verified as of 10/18/07 and as a result of this offer your name and Ticketing Number have been Identified and Issued!  You will receive at your request!  Two Roundtrip Airfares to Anywhere in the U.S.!  We are excited for you.

The card then give contact information.

So far the anywhere in the U.S., and Reno not being a major airport, are inconsistent statements.

While I can apprieciate what Gary S. stated in his comments above and agree with most of it -- Free means free.  Anywhere means anywhere.  I will try to keep you abreast of developments.

P.S.  If the grammar and spelling are not to your satisfaction, blame it on my being lazy and spell check not being available.

I also received an offer in the mail for "TWO COMPLIMENTARY ROUND TRIP" etc. with 1-866-930-3999 on it. There's also a Tysons Corner address on it for an outfit called Global Travel.

I'm certainly not calling and I doubt most people would have a good reason to call. But I have to disagree with those of you who think it's a scam. In a scam, you would get cheated out of something. Although the free trip would be very difficult or expensive to get, it probably is available. It may be desperate and silly, but it's not a scam.

And in case you've been living in a cave, you have to live in a cave if you don't want junk mail. Sorry. Just shred and recycle.

I received a postcard telling me to call this number b/c I have won two free airline tickets to anywhere in the US. I did not call. I did some web research and found a reference to an essentially similar postcard sent out last year from another address with a different phone number and different airline logo but all of the same text. I searched on that phone number and found some detailed stories. The bottom line is that you must attend a marketing presentation for an - apparently legitimate - expensive travel club membership, and by attending you get an offer for free airline tickets that is so restrictive that it is virtually impossible to use. One person is sueing the company over the outright misrepresentation in their marketing. Perhaps if enough people brought suit, this kind of stuff would stop.

I guess what I need to know is what is the actual owner of Global Holidays in Tyson's Corner, VA.   Any Fairfax County residents that can go the the court house and find out what parent company registered the ficticious name?  There is no registered corporation in the State of Virginia by the name of Global Holidays, so it has to be a trade name (or "Doing business as").   If so, they are REQUIRED to register with the clerk of the circuit court in the county where the trade name is to be used.   Once we know that,  we can find out from what state and county the articles of incorporation are filed for the parent company, and then from that,  the names of the registered officers.
