Concerned, sadly you will discover that the authorities can not/ will not do anything to solve this problem and that the "Do Not Call List" is useless in trying to combat these black stained rodents from Jamaica. It is up to us to exterminate this vermin. We must continue to be aggressive, offensive and relentless in our tactics!

I was first contacted by these filthy, little animals, when I received a call from a "John Baker" (last week's call was from a chigger calling itself, "James Faulkner.") In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 2.5 million dollars from "Mega Millions" in Las Vegas. It instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS, load it with $499.25 to pay for my "registration fees." A few days after this call, I was shocked to see this particular scam featured on ABC World News. During that segment, they played the audio of a conversation between an elderly woman - who had already sent them $85,000 - and one of these vile creatures.

When these roaches call again - which they will - please record the call and share your information in this forum. When you post please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name. Thanks.

Short answer: No, don't be concerned. Longer Answer: They pick area codes, & just dial, dial, dial. If your phone number is between 000-0000 and 999-9999 they'll get to you eventually. Just let family & friends know not to take calls from area code 876. It's Jamaica the country, not the borough of New York City. Unless you mail-ordered Red Strip beer, forget about it.

I also just received a call saying they were publishers clearing house. They said I needed to call the same number (876) 250-2557 to arrange delivery of the prize. I did not, nor do I plan to, call the number. Should I be concerned about how they got my number or that they called me at all?.

Do not call them back.
You will be placing a international long distance phone call in doing so, and be charged for it on your phone bill.

I also recvd phone call from these scammers. Said they were from Publishers and I needed to be home to recieve the check from prize patrol. They gave me an official sounding prize number and a phone number 876-250-2557 to call and confirm. I suggest you call them back and blow a whistle into the phone . If enough people do this they might stop. imagine how many old people fall for this trap

DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Scammers use these number to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Also:
It is a scam:
http://info.pch.com/consumer-information/fraud-protection

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.

Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.

"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees,  and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T.  The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!

Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award.  PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award.  Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"
