SCAM 876-420-9412

I receive a call from the infamous number today (10-10-2011) saying I won $5 million. But needed to call back for instructions on receiving the funds! I was so excited I forgot the number to call, NOT!!!!

This same number called me today (1/14/2011) informing me that I have won 2.5 million dollars from the Walmart Sweepstakes. All I needed to do was to call back the number and provides some detailed information for them to deliver the check to my door.  Of course, the word scam immediately came to mind. When I failed to call back, the idiot with a strong Jamacian accent called back insisting I take up the winnings.  I told his to get lost.

My mother receives comparable calls and these people are persistent. Unfortunately there are very few options to block these international calls from Jamaica. You would think the phone company would have some way to set up call blocking by area code, but they apparently don't offer that as an option. Best you can do is call you phone company to discuss options to address the problem as they do offer some services for an additional charge or you could change the number (but make sure the new number is unlisted/not published/private).

My 84 year old mother received a call from this person yesterday.  He identified himself as JOHN WASHINGTON and demanded that she send him the check he has been waiting for in the amount of $399 to claim her cash prize of 2.1 million dollars.  She has received several calls that show up as JAMAICA CALL on caller ID, including 876-445-3058 and 876-865-9983.  Each time the person has a different name and requests a slightly different amount.  After she told him to please not call anymore yesterday, he told her was sending his people to her house to get the check.  She said he became angry with her and she was terrified after this harassing and threatening call.
