DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Also:
It is a scam:
http://info.pch.com/consumer-information/fraud-protection

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.

Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.

"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees,  and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T.  The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!

Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award.  PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award.  Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"

Just recieved a call from this number.  They were not the least bit interested in delivering the million dollars and the new vehicle to the hospital where I work.   Wanted to know when I would be home to deliver.

I just received a call from this number claiming to be Publisher's Clearing House to inform me that I had won a prize.  I asked how he got my cell phone number, and he gave some lame response.  He asked if I was surprised to be getting a call to tell me I had won.  I told him that I didn't believe it was for real.  He kept talking, and when he paused I told him that I could barely understand a word that he was saying.  I guess that made him mad so he hung up.  I immediately googled the number and learned that it was a scam out of Jamaica.  While I still had the scam information up on my screen, he called back and started his spill again.  I interrupted him to tell him that he had already called me and that I knew he was a scammer out of Jamaica.  He couldn't get off the phone fast enough.

Shea, thank you for sharing your experience here. Your approach to dealing with these filthy rodents is excellent: find out what they actually know about you (usually, nothing more than your first name) and try to extract as much information from them as possible.

What might suprise you is that over 30,000 calls are made DAILY from Jamaica to the United States for the purpose of trying swindle/extort money. Since they seem to target the elderly and spurred on by the powerful AARP lobby, this particular scam is currently the subject of a Federal investigation, using the code name JOLT.

I thought I had finally heard the last from these foul smelling, little animals, when I received a call from someone calling himself "John Felix" (apparently these clowns think every white person in the US has "John" for a first name.) In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 3.5 million dollars! This was, apparently, a different scam operation than the the one that had contacted me two weeks earlier. In that scheme, I was contacted by a "John Baker" who instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS to pay my registration fees because I had won 2.5 million from "Mega Millions." These calls are being placed via Magic Jack and the audio quality is very poor. In order to once again pay for "registration fees of 5%," I was instructed to obtain a Money Gram for $499.25 and that I would be sending it to "Lloyd David Cook, 5201 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA" As it turns out, this address belongs to a sort of homeless rehab facility

Called on my cell phone.  Said I had won 2nd place in Publishers Clearing House, that would be 1.5 million and a new Mercedes.  I asked how he got my number, he said from a local grocery store.  I wanted to see what else he said.  He asked me how long it would take me to get to Wal-mart.  I asked him why I needed to go to Wal-mart.  He said I needed to pick up my claim ticket.  He wanted me to wire $233 to cover the fees of the delivery of my prize and the receipt was my claim ticket when they deliver the car.  I asked him what state they would deliver it to, because we just moved.  He was thrown off.  I told him I can't believe he is scamming people like this and he said have a good day and hung up.

Just received a call from this same number on my cell phone telling me I had won $600,000 and a new GMC pick up.  All I had to do was go to Walmart and Western Union $345.00 to John Cambell for the taxes.  He said he would stay on phone with me til I got to Walmart and talk me through sending the money. I told him to donate my winnings to the homeless shelter and send me a receipt for tax purposes and he hung up.

Yep he called me and said I won 400,000,00 and  2012 GMC Truck. Because I shopped at Walmart , Walgreens.
But in order to get the money and truck I had to give him 375.00 for the taxes.. Well I told him I would call him back...lol I think if this was true that I had won then they would waite and let me pay out of the money I won. As I do not give money for something I do not have in hand.. The goverment should do something about this.
I hate people that scam. If they are truly giving me a money I won then give it to me and I will pay the taxes.
If not leave me alone I have to much to do other then to take fasle calls.
