DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Do report the calls, Jamaican and US officials are still actively tracking down and arresting the offenders:

Also:
It is a scam:

DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. >>> I've only heard the voice once but I know that it is a black man's voice so it must be one of those scams from Africa or something. <<<

Could you please help us?  I realize that you got the call before looking up the number, but how did you look up the number in the first place?  Did you look it up on Google to get to this page?  Or did you come directly to 800notes.com?

Once you got here, did you miss the two other posts above yours?  Also, since you didn't know that the call was from Jamaica, how did you miss that fact?  It is on the right hand side near the top of the first post of every page (in this case, there was only one page).  What is it that is wrong with this site that makes you and everyone else (or so it seems) miss things like this?  Should the site be redesigned?  If so, do you have any suggestions?

So I set up a magic jack number a month ago for home use and some rude, obnoxious, profanity-laced man from this number 876-889-9116 kept on calling my home phone.  These people called my number 3 times in one day.  The first time I picked it up and two guys were arguing in the background then one guy told me to f*** off.  I hung up because I didn't want to hear what was coming next.  The second time they called, my husband picked up and they told him to f*** off.  The third time, we did not pick up.  I still get calls from this number but we just chose to ignore.  They never leave us a voicemail.

I don't know who these people are and if they do not stop calling me, I will report them to magic jack.  One time I ran all the way upstairs to my office thinking that it was work related only to find out that it was from 876-889-9116.  They called me again  today.  Still no voicemail so I called back just to see what the hell was going on and got a recording that it was an international number and that the call could not be made.  I've only heard the voice once but I know that it is a black man's voice so it must be one of those scams from Africa or something.

Walmart is not giving out your debt card info that is just the lie they are saying...............Glad your son did not fall for this scam...Report there number to the FTC and to your local news station so they can alert people in your area NOT to fall for this scam!!!..If they called from a 909 number then they were using a magic jack to show a different number.

I have a 19 year old who got a call that he had won 5.1 million and a new car. Off course it was a scam and what 19 year old wouldn't want 5.1 million! Being naive he thought it might be true. When the caller called him back he put it on speaker phone. The caller told my son that he was entered into the lottery when he used his debit card at walmart and charged over $10. So now walmart is giving out debit card numbers...I think not. After I told him to hang up he got 37 return calls (which he ignored) and then it switched to a 909 number calling him- which is California. he ignored that also. Don't answer any call from an 876 number! This is an international call if you are in the US- am waiting on my son's bill to see what gets charged.
