Telemarketer
970-300-2162 called yesterday and didn't leave a message.  They called again today and wanted to tell me about great Allstate deals available to drivers in my area.  Question #1:  "Who is your vehicle insurance company?"  Answer: "Allstate".  "Oh, okay--" he said, "my mistake."

Non-profit Organization
I received a call from a man claiming to be calling on behalf of the Colorado Police Protective Association about 30 or so minutes ago but the number showed up as "unavailable" on caller ID. I simply told the guy after he identified himself that I would NOT donate.

I have a long-standing policy of never donating to any charity that cold-calls me.

These people call at least every 1.5 hours if you don't answer. I actually answered this morning and this guy said he was taking donations for a police whatever that they used the monies for bullet-proof vests, etc. I told him we already give to a police(ish) type of organization and I can't give to everyone. He wouldn't give up and said they weren't the same org. that I was giving to and these officers really need the money. We kept batting back & forth about who I should give to and I told him if my donation wasn't enough that I was going to just not give to anyone at all. Before I could say anything else he hung up on me.  We'll see if I get another call tomorrow morning. They usually call at 8:30AM then again around 10AM.

Because I'm on the DNC list and also have the Qwest announcement prohibiting any solicitation, I answer my phone, knowing that solicitors risk prosecution.  This guy introduced himself as calling from the "Police Protective Association".

They call me too!!!  If I don't answer, they don't leave a v/m.  They've tried the police fund raiser thing with me.  I told them no.  They then said it's the only fund that goes directly to my local police.  I asked them who my local police were ... they got my city WRONG!!!

We are on the do not call list. What can we do to stop this?

I called this number to get my number REMOVED from their calling database: 800.320.2772
The man was very nice and apologized for any stress caused.  Hopefully it works, we`ll see.

The Colorado Police Protective Association contracts out their telemarketing to another company.  Your gift is not tax deductible, and only 15% goes to the charity, the other 85% goes to the telemarketers. Raw deal if you ask me.

"If you would like your telephone number removed from the calling list please contact the CPPA office either by telephone or email at 800.320.2772 or cppa@cppa.net and leave the entire telephone number to include area code that you want removed.  It takes five business days to process your request."

970-300-2162 came up on my Caller ID as a local number as well.  Considering this is in Aspen, and I'm in the Denver Metro Area, this is obviously not a local call.  I did not answer the phone, and they did not leave a message.  They have only called once (so far), but after reading the comments on here, I'll be sure to give them a piece of my mind the next time they do call me back.

Called this number back.  Went along with their sales pitch for awhile and asked them where I could send a donation.  They wanted my credit card information and I explained how I don't have any credit cards, but would be happy to send them cash.  They would not give me an address to send cash.  I then told them I needed their address because I work for the Federal Police and I wanted to run their organization's name through our data base.  They hung up.

I knew something was strange from the beginning - the caller id stated "local call".  The 970 area code is not a local number in our area.

I called back using *82 then the number, 1-970-300-2162.  It was a fundraising organization...something about children.  I was asked to leave my phone number and a representative would call me back with more information.

this is some sort of "fundraising" so-called business.  But only a recording answers when you call the number and they want you to leave your phone number so they can have a rep return your call!!!!
these things are SOOOO irritating!!!!!
If i am able to talk to person, they will be sorry they ever got my number.

Too bad the state attorney doesn't help. I guess his politics keep him from doing something that might be construed as doing his job. I should be able to sleep in on my days off. They probably fall into 1 of the 4 most crooked list,(1) Oil companies (2) Politicians (3) Government (4) credit card companies.

They called me today, saying i pledged.  I never did. I said no when they called.  The guy said he would look into it, i said no, dont look into it, remove me from your list since i never volunteered a donation.   He hung up on me.  So then I looked up the Colorado Police Protective Association.  They are in Colorado Springs.  Very nice people, and very genuine.  Skip told me that these people should not be hasseling me, and he is not affiliated with the people making the calls.   He was a very nice person, very helpful, and said he would look into it.

They called me, said they are from the Colorado Police Protection Service, doing a fundraiser.  They call me every year, but of course from different number I think.  I get the feeling this line is used as a general "fundraiser" line...the caller id tells me that it is coming from Aspen, Colorado.

They call twice daily, once in around 10 a.m. and again in the evening.  They don't leave messages.  Once, I answered and they persist in support for the police and their family victims. Very demanding, requiring money to support their cause.

This organization is a "for profit" organization.  Meaning only a few cents of every dollar ever makes it to the police departments.  They keep the bulk of the money for themselves.  They get aroud the No Call List rule as they classify themselves as a charitable organization.  I blocked their number by dialing *60 and following the prompts, blocking them from ever calling me again.  Until the rules change for classifing charities, these leaches will be able to prey on the public.

I got called from the "Colorado Police Protective Association" I tried to find out how much when to the police department and he said 85% but from what I have found online it's more like 15%.  I asked if the donation was tax deductible he had to go find out and he came back and said that it was not.  At that point I said thanks and hung up on him.  The person who called was using a very old list because my phone has not been listed as what he called me in about 5 years.

Stay away from these jokers.

I usually let this call go to the answering machine, since I answered once before and knew it was a telemarketer.  I picked up today hoping to ask them to stop calling, but after I listened patiently to his pitch and told him I was not interested in giving, he pretended he couldn't hear me (this was on my home phone which never has connection problems so I'm sure he was lying), then he hung up on me.

I called the CPPA directly at 800.320.2772 and the woman I talked to was very polite and removed me from the list.

Same thing as all you guys.  Caller id reads "Local Call" so I didn't answer.  I was getting calls nightly from someone calling themselves the Fraternal Order of Police - are these the same people?
