I believe this tactic is in use by debt collectors.

My understanding of the credit reporting system is that the collector wants you to react by calling them.  In so doing, it makes the reporting status of that debt as recent and it possibly restarts the 7 year credit reporting on the debt, as well as raises the importance of the debt as it relates to your credit score.

To Debt Collectors:  If you have a notice for me to appear in court, send it.  I'm here.

No offense but you really shouldn't be giving your phone number out on the Internet.  You leave yourself wide open for harassment and scam calls just like these.  The folks that make these calls are low lifes and have no regard for privacy or selling our information.

It's a scam!  You really shouldn't be giving out your phone number on the Internet.  Do yourself a favor and don't answer the phone when calls like this come in.  Eventually they'll stop calling and nothing will happen.  MOG7752

Yeah, I just received a call just like that today.  The woman had the same name Janelle Peters stating she received a fax on her desk and said it was something about signing a certified notice of intent to appear in court.  She said that she wasn't aware of what the litigation was against me but there is a service date of Friday September 30th.  She gave some sort of case no. and said if to call the number if I had any questions.  She also said that if I didn't return the call that SHE would be out at my house and/or job to confront me about this.  I've been scammed like this before once; ONCE!  I learned my lesson and found out what a scam it really was the hard way.  DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS!!!  Once you fork over any money to these borderline criminals, you will not be able to sew.  The best you can do is report it to the State Attorney General in your state and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  The first time this happened to me (It was a different woman and different company) I lost $600 on the deal.  I still haven't even checked to see if it was applied to the debt she was speaking of.  I am till in the process of making my complaints.  Sincerely, MOG7752

Debt Collector
Have received a phone message the last 2 days at work telling me her name and that she has received a fax in her office that I have to appear in court and that she is going to serve me on Fri. 7/29 at my home or office.  Said the phone # 877-201-3208 belongs to the "claimant" and to contact them. Left a case # also.  Sounds bogus to me!  I cannot imagine who this is and I am not calling this #.
