These people call at least 3 times daily.  I have told them my father is no longer here and the woman who was calling told me she's going to keep calling until she gets him.  She was just nasty to me and kept repeating "Yes, Ma'am, yes ma'am, yes ma'am" very loudly over and over. I tried to talk over her to get her to understand that no amount of repeat calling is going to reach my dad, but she just kept repeating that over and over louder and louder.  There has to be some place to report this and her insensitive behavior! She also refused to tell me who she was or what company she was representing.

Just FYI...hubby & I gave every year to Breast Cancer. Two years ago we got a call and we were struggling ourselves and told the lady that we could only afford $15. She said that our slip would come in the mail with $50 printed on it and we just had to cross it out to write the $15. In a few weeks we started getting calls from a collection agency wanting to remaining $35 that we owed. It is still on our credit and we haven't given to any charities over the phone since. Beware of the tricks!!!!

The reason they don't get tired of calling is because they just program the machine to do it.

Yes it is a scam.  This number has been calling me for years asking for one thing or another.  I do give to legitimate charities, but I have a nagging suspicion that they sell their donors list to each other and that's how the scammers get our numbers.  Very aggravating.

Called about Breast Cancer.  Wanted a $40 donation and said they would send a pledge card in the mail.  Then told me not to hang up, they transferred me to another woman right away for "verification."  I heard pauses, like it was being recorded.  She wanted a debit or cc card.  I said no.  I got frustrated and hung up.  I could start calling random numbers in the phone book, put on a sweet voice and give a sad story about breast cancer and then ask for a cc card number for a donation.  I bet some poor soul would fall for it.  Shame.

I also got the call, but I didn't mind the call, Why, because I bought a Digitone Call Blocker.  www.digitone.com The first time they call, it rings my phone and the call comes through. I then block the number and the next time they call, my phone doesn't even ring and the blocker hangs up on them. You can even block entire area codes. I have it setup to block any incoming calls with the 877 area code. The blocker keeps track of all calls, good and bad ones. Then I like to check to see who got hung up on just for fun like I am now.

You need to buy one of these, you?ll like it. No monthly fees either

Just got one now. Do not understand all the toll free numbers who call the house and never say a word. This is only one of the numbers that try repeatedly, and I never get a response when I answer the phone.

So my caller id showed Toll Free Caller and I knew it was a telemarketer. So I answered the phone and a young woman said, "Hello, Is Misty there?" I said, "Yes, this is her." She replied, "Thank you. There is no message. Goodbye." And she hung up! Really? Why do you need to know if I'm home and then hang up on me. So I called the number back and the automated system said they were Children with hair loss, a non-profit organization that helps children who have lost their hair. .... Confused? Ya me too.

I'm also on the Do Not Call list, but it's only for honest companies. Scammers like 877-202-0422 don't follow the rules, they are ripoffs and they'll typically hang up when the phone rings 6 times. Some scammers hang up after only 4 rings as some people savvy to the tricks set their machines to answer after 4 rings. That avoids the message machine as they don't typically leave messages and want to talk to a real person. Telling them you are on the DNC list and asking them to stop calling or add your number to their list is a waste of time. My philosophy is don't get mad, get even. Pick up the phone and without speaking, lay it down for 30 seconds, or if you don't have the time, pick up the phone then hang it right back up. Make their connection, so if there are any connection fees they'll be charged and if not you'll make them spend time and thing a little.  They wind up figuring out in short order that it's you who winds up wasting their time, and money, if it's not an 800 number, but even if they aren't losing money, not responding with the same quick hang up will have them add your number to their own do not call list.

If you want to make a charitable contribution to just anyone calling you on the phone get ready for a deluge of scammers contacting you as your number will be sold to the growing number of those who do not want to work to make an honest living, instead they want your money. Do your research and contribute directly to the organization, NOT to a telemarketing third party company who may take as much as 98% of the charitable contributions! If it just doesn't sound right, it's not!

What people fail to realize is that these callers are not legal companies and do not follow the law, they do not care about the NDNC list, for them it is a joke. We need to demand that our phone providers do something about these calls, we pay enough money for the service and we deserve to be able to block more than 10 numbers at a time, without paying extra.

We would not invite these jerks into our homes if they knocked on the door, well as far as I am concerned when you call my personal number ou are inviting yourself into my home, I should be protected by my phone company and NOT used as an increase in thier bottom line because I am being harassed. They owe us at least that.

Ducky,

Just so you know, the BBB doesn't approve anyone.  It has no official standing, and it is not a government agency.  It is just another business, wrapped up i a pretense of being noble.  I suspect that they do more to facilitate bad actors than thwart them, as long as the money comes in.

According to some reports, the more money you send them, the more likely you are to have a good rating.

Take a look at this: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/business-bureau ... ory?id=12123843

Even if you are on the Do Not Call list, there are exemptions and exceptions to it (non-profits organizations, companies you've done business with in last 18 months, debt collectors, etc).  You can ask to be placed on an "internal" DNC list for any company that calls you, but unfortunately there isn't a lot the FCC can do to force companies to keep their internal lists up-to-date.

This is a good place to see what types of companies are exempt from the federal DNC list, as well as any additional rules your state may have in place:

Keep in mind that there are exemptions and exceptions to the Do Not Call list.  If you ask a company to remove you, they are supposed to do so.  Use this link to determine if the company calling you actually is violating the DNC list; if they are, then report them.  However, if they are allowed by the FCC, FTC, or your home state to contact you, there really isn't much you can do other than repeatedly ask the company to stop calling you.
