877-228-0944 didn't call me. It is in the body of a phishing e-mail.
When i called the number (from payphones), it answered with a generic recording. I was surprised there was no "call center" to take my information. Wou can say anything you want into the machine. (Call often and you help make money for the owner of the payphone. But then you are also punishing whoever is paying for the 877-number calls.)
A phone number is another kind of electronic address. That's a whole new category of addresses that needs to be blacklisted and blocked.
It's another game of cat-and-mouse, to find who registered that number (probably fraudulently billed), who receives the messages (remotely of course). And the best they could do is shut it down.
I hope one of these banks has the sense to pretend to be a victim. Give special account numbers, and see who tries to use them.

CORRECTION CORRECTION CORRECTION, It is NCUA.GOV. Sorry for the mistake.
| Marko 2007-11-13 17:51:19 Unknown |
Remember - DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - call any of these bogus numbers that appear in this or future emails. You can always run a google search or an 800 directory search to check the number, which usually won't even appear.
| Marko 2007-11-13 17:44:53 Unknown |
They do have nerve! The email was sent by either a hijacked computer or just a spoofed return header, an evironmental demolition company in Colorado, hardly the NCUA. And it is NCUA.ORG, not .gov I also got the BofA military email, apparently the same crooks.
